If you want a good Street racer, just get a 99 GT, put an exhaust system, some moderate gears, a blower, some suspension mods, and a set of drag radials, and I can almost guarantee you will never lose a street race from a light. Good luck in your decision.

There is quite a difference in the mustang from 94 to 99.

The 94/95 GT has the 302, which you get make huge power for relatively cheap (plus it's the best looking car )

The 96-98 GT had the first generation 4.6L, I think these cars respond well to boost (and look pretty sharp too )

The 99 GT has a lot right from stock. These cars also respond well to boost. Like StoplightWarrior said, you'll be faster than most cars with a 99 GT with the mods he listed. Just keep in mind that it will cost a lot more for parts if you want to go further.

They are all really nice cars, pick the one you like and can afford

a 94-95 will be easier and cheaper to mod, though a 99+ is faster as is (stock), but given the money you save by buying a 94-95, vs by a barely used 99+, you could have one fast car.

Of course you can fit a 347 stroker under the hood. Its the exact same size as the 302 since your using the same block

Well I agree with the others....get a 99 or higher cus they are just better powerwise in stock form and get some exhaust and gears...don't even bother with those 5.0s 94-95 cus I heard they have problem with the computer that doesn't let you push it to the limit...read up on it...I love the 5.0 though...if you mention 5.0 to anyone u either get a big grin(ford guys) or big cringe(all the other people who have no idea what they are talking about or fear them)
Hope someday the 5.0 in my Lincoln will be pumping some good power...for now all I have is torque and leather

I have pretty much gone the least expensive route while modifying my 95GTS. Yes, the computers suck but nothing a dyn/custom chip won't solve. All of my mods were done straight out of the box and I use probably the cheapest, most unreliable sc out there. I can't make any more power in my current state due to the fact I am maxing out the voltage in my maf meter. Danny Swanson from Swanson's Performance says he knows he can get at lest 400rwhp from my set-up with larger injectors and swaping out the tube in my mass air meter.
So if I can make this power (see sig) from my stuff, you can only go up with better heads, intake, and cam. Then, moving to a Vortech, ATI, Paxton, or especially turbo, will just add to those numbers. Good luck :}

FMS/Powerdyne 6psi SC, 73mm maf, 65mm TB, Cobra u/l intake, 24lb inj, 1.7" rockers, GT-40Y aluminum heads, Steeda #19 cam, MAC 1 5/8" long-tubes, MAC 2 1/2" pro-chamber, Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, MAC 2 1/2" chromed exhaust, BBK 255lph fuel pump, FMS aluminum drive shaft, FMS 3.55 gears, and custom chip dyno-tuned by Swanson Performance. 391.0rwhp/377.5 rwtq SAE corrected

Or, if you have a little extra cash laying around, buy a 2001 cobra and put on the following mods:

1) 4.10 gears;
2) Drag radials; and
3) ATI or Vortech blower (9#'s will be sufficient) maybe an injector & pump upgrade too

Let's not kid ourselves here, this will be one fast mother!

Good luck on your decision.

I'm a sucker for the 302, but as the new 4.6 get larger in numbers it'll be harder to find go fast goodies for them. But that'll be a while. Good luck with your buy.

You just listed a whole bunch of stuff. the first question is how much do you want to spend? also, what do you intend to do with the car? daily driver? track car? if you have a lot of money to blow, get a 99+ gt/cobra, put a blower, intake, exhaust, gears, and some suspension stuff and you will have a very fast car. if you don't have that much money, look into a 94-95, or even better, a 87-93. the 5.0L is a lot cheaper and easier to mod, plus you will be able to buy the car for less than 1/4 the price of a new gt. overall, i would suggest a 5.0L car.

Canadian fox GT's were sold under the name Cobra in Canada. They are exactly the same as their US GT counterparts.

Lol, your parents suck man. You're buying the stang with your job right? So say to hell with the parents and buy a GT V8. I would never tolerate that kind of control from my folks, and hell, my step mom drives a 5.0 to work everyday. She bought it "on a lark" was her words. A stock V8 is easy to tame, and if it makes your parents feel any better get an automatic if you have too.

But don't sacrifice the V8 because of two people who think they own your life!!!

Although I too would much rather have the power and performance of the GT, a V6 mustang is still a nice car, and a large part of the success of the mustang.

You may get razzed a little, but ignore it. I'm sure there are a number of people here can help you make your base model mustang a little faster
