SS smackdown!
Not 2 recent...going back to last summer (I just joined the message board)...a guy I know had recently bought a 2K Camaro SS. He talked a whole lot of $h** (like most us do)He kept bragging about pony skins he'd taken, & kept challenging me to race. To be honest, I was a bit nervous, but then figured that his car was 10 yrs younger than my car, and it cost about $15k more than mine (before mods). Well, the first run he accused me of jumping too early (I kind of did, but...), I missed third anyway, and it ended pretty much a tie. We both wanted 2 go again. So, the next run, we both take off....I got off the line quicker (about 1/4 car), at the end of 2nd (now about 1/2 car lead) I thought it was over for me, thinking that 3rd is where he'd catch/pass me. To my surprise, I took him for a hair more than a car length. I was expecting every excuse in the book, but not 1 from him (what a surprise from a Camaro guy). I guess you can say it was a good day! And guess what, no more talk.

Hey, mid 12's at 108, sounds like a really quick LX. I wouldn't worry too much about stock late model muscle cars. Even a Viper, you're probably gonna run even or at least close..

This SS guy is planning on getting a N20 150 hp fogger system. I guess I'll have to retaliate with a supercharger in the near future. I'd like to first get a nice intake, bigger injectors/fuel pump, RAM or Centerforce clutch kit and better control arms.

A Stock SS will run 13.1-13.3, so you had the kill as long as you drove like a king!
Good job! |

Well, I know I shouldn't have been nervous, but the $h!^ this guy talks, it would've been hard times for me had I lost (missed a shift, too much spin in the box etc. I can't stand my Hurst shifter....3rd's a b!^&h. I'm thinking Pro 5.0.
The SS guy is planning on a n2o 150 hp fogger any day now. I guess I'll have to push up the plans on a supercharger! ------------------ '90 LX 5.0; 12K original miles (no sh*&); 3.55 gears; pulleys; Edelbrock Performer Heads; BBK shorties; MSD 6AL ignition system; Motorsport E303 cam; 75 MAF; 70 TB; Eibach spring kit; Southside sub-connectors; K&N cone filter charger; Hurst shifter; fiberglass cowl hood; A/C-less; rear seat-less; cat-less; Flomasters; Corbeau racing seats (fronts); 12.513 @ 108 mph |

You get the right blower and you'll smash that 150 hp bottled SS
fastang, Yes, we are suffering SOME casualties. "yawn", .....ahem, shucks....i just can't remember what came in the SS camaro....hmmm...was it bigger or smaller than a 302.....
Oh wait, it must have been bigger 'cause chevy can't beat a ford in an inch for inch displacement challange. Also welcome aboard....i'm fairly new here too. |

Thats not a good argument since there are a few 4 cylinder (and six) that make more power per a inch (liter) than the 4.6 ~~ how many liters is a Honda Prelude making 200fwhp?? lets not start bashing here

no bashing.....always enjoy friendly picking at the bowtie boys......your very right about some of the 4's making more power per inch than the 8's. Scary huh?...hope they dont make a v8 import like that.

Yes, the hp/inch argument is a ricer thing, but it applies here. The S200 makes all that power up in the stratosphere, the 4.6 (like the 5.7 chevy) makes the power down low *does the down low shimmy*. Chevy can't beat Ford in engineering. Take a Fox Body Mustang vs. a Camaro of the same year (late 80s) and they both run about he same, but the Camaro has 48 more inches! Blech.
My friend recently went to a car show and the Chevy dealer there was braggin about how they got 350hp out of the 350cu/in engine in their crate motor. The Ford 351 crate makes 385hp............and I don't think they are getting that 35hp from one cu/in. |
