2.5 RS, Was this a loss.
So I hit the merge lane and realized that car I just smoked past was one of the new Subaru 2.5 RS's. So conveniently he was next to me at the next red light. I look over and he won't even look at me. The light turns green and we both hit it. Of course me still getting used to the new gears, I get ansy and over throttle it, smoking the tires through 1st gear.(assuming they'll hook eventually... wrong) He jumped two cars, and I burned 2nd gear for about a second, and by the time I shifted 3rd I was past him. As soon as I passed him we had to slow down for traffic. Do you conider this a loss?
It was soo frustraring, I should have asked him if he wanted to go again, but the guy was some snotty rich kid and hes was quite an a$$hole. Can't wait to see him again. ------------------ 90LX Ragtop. 14.7@95.3 Strut tower brace, K&N, 2.25'' Flowmasters, Hollow cats, Crank pulley, Crane 2031, Crane rockers, Holley FPR, 155lph, Heavy duty clutch, and alum quadrant. The way I see it is that if you were in front of him before either of you had to shut down it was a win, but if he was already slowing down when you passed him it was a loss.

Maybe I was over confident. Could I have beat him? I didn't realize they have 227HP. How fast are they.

jeb, I think the crux of the matter here is, did he let off before you passed him, or was he still in it when you passed him? If you're not sure, then it's not possible to know who won.
With your times, I'm definitely betting on you. Rev ------------------ '66 Coupe, 306, 300 HP, C-4, 13.97 e.t., 100.3 mph 1/4 mi. |

Are you sure you I.D'd the car correctly? Check this out: there is a new Subaru called a WRXSTi that is slicker than owl poop. It has an intercooled turbo 2 liter 4cyl running.... crap, I hate to type this.. my house is directly behind a Subaru dealership....276 hp @ 6400 rpm!!!! There is an article about it in the May Car and Driver magazine. The claim is 60 mph in 4.8 sec and low 13 sec 1/4mi times bone stock (6 spd shifter too). This new WRX has 50 more horsepower and 58 more pound feet of tourque than the standard WRX. You can spot them by their gold wheels. Oh yeah, and off the line he'll have the advantage of all wheel drive. Damn, I'll have to face these guys every day, they constantly drive through my neighborhood on the way to the gas station to fill up the new cars. Now I'm really going to have to get a supercharger! I'm not sure if these models are out yet, but at least you've got some info now to save face with.

The WRX Sti has been around for years...
We don't get that version in the US, so I don't really see what the warning on that car is all about. We do get an ugly *** 2.0 turbo I-4 making 227hp. The 2.5RS doesn't make anywhere close to 227hp. Last I checked they were making about 160. Great for launching with AWD, nothing to brag about when they get moving. |

My best friend has a 2.5 rs so i have to hear all about the subarus. The WRX has been around for a while but the one u really want to be afaid of is the P1, too bad neither are here in the u.s.
The AWD will kick your *** in first but it robs about 30% hp when they get rolling. the old body style and the old 2.5 motor are what i would want, but with a wrx turbo and intercooler. ------------------ 89 5.0 GT White w/Blue Racing Stripes K&N, 73mm Mass Air, Ported and Polished Stock Heads, E303 Cam, MAC equal Length Headers, Off Road H-Pipe, Borla Mufflers, 3.73's Sway Bars, Strut Tower Brace, Subframe Connectors, Eibach Springs, Koni Adjustables/Reds, Pony 5 Stars, 1000 Watt JL Audio System, No P/S , No Smog Pump |

Hey Unic 5302:, I'm not a rice lover but that car will be on the streets in the US in about 2 months-some dealers already have demos (dealer's sons sometimes are snotty punks who get the hot rods way before anyone else-I've known several of them-kind of sounded like the guy Jeb described) Check out the article I mentioned. Anyway, it is unlikely that this car was one of the new ones.

It did'nt have gold wheels, and it may not have been the 227HP one. Though I can't be totally sure if he was still in it, when I passed him I could hear his motor. You know that loud riced out air filter sound, and that's over my cat-less 2 chambers. I guess I'll just have to track him down and see who wins. What really pissed me off is after the race some guy on a harley pulled up next to him and complimented him on his outstanding launch. I need some drag radials.

Dude, are you sure you're not talking about the WRX? That car here is rated at only 227hp, not 276.

Sounds like he was still in it to me. I'd say you made a poor launch but nailed him anyway in third. Whatever Subaru it was.

I'm a little late with this reply but I'd like to clear some stuff up.
An easy way to tell a WRX and RS apart on the 2002 models is that the RS won't have a hood scoop and of course the badging. On previous models, it's real easy: there was no WRX offered. This is the WRX's 1st year in the US and Canada. As for the STI or P1 (?) neither are offered OR will be offered in the US for a long time if at all. Subaru is testing the waters with the current WRX to see how well they sell before bringing over the STI. Currently there are NO plans for it, but possibly in a couple of years. FWIW, I own a 2002 WRX and I ran a 14.5 @ 92.7mph, 100% bone stock, 1300 miles, 70 degree weather, 250lb driver, 1/2 tank of gas, and my 1st time to the track in this car. A stock Mustang driver shouldn't take these cars lightly. A couple of mods and 13's won't be a problem. Just a warning.... ------------------ Chris 1989 Mustang LX 2002 Impreza WRX |

A friend of mine has a new WRX (it's 227 hp, not to be confused w/ the WRXsti which is 276 hp).....it's super light and super fast. With that much hp in a light car like that, add a AWD system........you can't be slow. He's got the exhaust and intake worked and he's got that thing into the mid 13's. It's a "somewhat modified" Mustang killer.
