Whut does the new SS have in it?
im wondering whut motor the new SS's have b/c 1 pulled up next to me so i rev it a lil bit. when the light turns green, he starts to pull away cuz my car falls on its face cuz my clutch is bad, well then im pissed so i let off the gas and put my foot in the floor my car finally responds and i start pullin up on him hard was gonna go for the pass but road merged to 1 lane so i had to let off cuz i wasnt gonna try for the pass and end up catchin the dirt. if u wana know i drive a 90 5.0 GT, bbk jet coated aluminum equal lenght haders, to bbek jet coated off road h-pipe, w/ flowmasters and 3.73's in the rear, i was suprised with my car when i was pullinon him, my mom didnt like it much, butit was funny.

The same underrated LS1 they have since '98.
It should make 325 FWHP, but my brothers '98 Z28 makes 310 RWHP and runs the 1/4 with good traction at 13.8 @107 STOCK. That SS should be the same, GM labeled them at 305, 310, and 325 over the years, but some really make that rear wheel. I'm surprised you kept up.

Remember that people who try to read this stuff can have a hard time reading when you don't use proper englsih. Don't mean to sound lame, but it would be nice... |

Hey man don't get so defensive. Everyone is just purely stating a fact that ls1's are much faster than a 5.0 with exhuast. That cam really isnt doing anything to your car either if you still have the stock heads and intake.
Unit would probably disagree with this but that car is faster. He either was not trying as hard as possible or he wasnt that great of a driver. This is the truth man. Sad but True Later, Nick

The LT-1 uses a tube relocating the air intake at the bottom of the driver's side. You need to cut the rubber splash guard to get fresh air from under the car. Good for 10-20 HP over the stock intake. Marc

Trapping 108 MPH in stock or near-stock trim is hauling balls. I'd be very surprised if you could even hit 100mph in the 1/4. Reread Coupe5oh's post. In the 1/8th they were even. In the 1/4 he got slaughtered. I really need to find an LS1 to race to see if I could hold off the "top end charge".

The way I see it is any 5.0 with exhaust will probably still run 14's, most Camaro SS's run easy 13's, the new ones are supposed to break into the high 12's. If you were pulling on him, he probably wasn't trying. And what cam are you running, e-303, b-303, x-303, etc.?

killerstang, how bout some punctuation bro, i get a headache every time i try to read one of your stories. my buddy's ls1 really wakes up in 3rd gear. there awesome for a stock car but give me a break, 48 extra cubes? high flowing aluminum heads? heads, cam, and intake on a 5.0 and you'll keep up w/ one. heads, cam, and intake on a 351w or 347 and you'll run like gangbusters. they should be compared to a 347 or a windsor anyway. stock stang vs. ls1? i'd put my money on the ls1.

I've seen PLEANTY of LS-1's run in the 14's. A crappy driver and boom, the LS-1 ain't so hot anymore. Good driver in a fox, vs a SS with a bad driver, the fox will pull till the advantages of hp and aerodynamics take over. So easy up guys and give this guy a break.

I agree, it's not nothing new to hear a 5.0 taking an ls1, traction problems can affect the ss, drivers...ect, crazier things have happened on the street, but lets be realistic,
a race takes place, both drivers gun it, 70 mph is but 5-6 seconds away, so could a near stock mustang pull on an ls1 until 70? probaly, like you said the power and aerodynamics take over from there, so its simple as that? if the stang doesnt have at least 275-300 at the wheels, its gonna get pulled after the cars lauch, 5-7 seconds after they started, maybe it would be a good race until 100 mph with a lightly modded stang and good driver, and trust me, an e-cam and exhaust isnt enough to put 275 to the wheels, therefore when these cars get rolling into high speeds, of course horspower is what wins, so there has been many people, including me, that have pulled a few stoplight jumps on f-bods making them look like fools, of course those never make it over 70-80 mph for me.

thanks guys, your right. i never said in anyhow or way that we got near or over 100, i just said i pulled him tell the road merged. like they said the dude could of sucked, who knows. but i never said i was near 100, i have never raced 1 to 100 and that was the first 1 i have raced and you dont gotta go to 100 for it to be a race. if at the light both drivers are revin at each other and you both take off, it is a race. the ls-1 probley would pass me in the higher speeds, but we werent in an area that you could hit that. so thanks tireburner163 and coupe5oh

My victories over the LS1 were not blowouts for 2 of the 3, and they never pulled on me. Having an LS1 pulling away hard core, then to stop it from pulling and start reeling it back in is a big difference from my wins, but I annihilated one from a stop, and my close runs were freeway run ins.
