Post Stats

Hey guys,

I just purchased a new 2001 GT a few weeks ago. It is a 5-Speed. I was just wondering if you guys could give me some stats on my car(i.e. 0-60, quarter mile, engine cubic inches, etc.) I went to the Ford website but was unable to find anything good. I did find a website that listed my car as running a 0-60 in 5.4 seconds, is that accurate? Right now it is all stock but I plan to change that. I am going to start out by putting in a K&N Air Filter and go from there.

I too have seen 5.4 for 0-60, and 14.0 for the 1/4 mile. Although you have to take into account driver skill, elevation, traction, etc, etc, etc. There are hundreds of factors in a certain cars speed and the only way to find out is to run it at the track. My guess would be about 5.4-5.6 in 0-60 and 14.0-14.3 in the 1/4, judging by what I've seen. This is with a good launch at about 1000ft elevation.

Thanks Three Pony Stable. I thought so. I am still new to this stuff and trying to learn. I went from a 1990 LX Four Cylinder to the 2001 GT. Ha, even better, I learned to drive stick on the 2001 GT. That said, it will be a little while before I learn to race. Any tips?

I believe the 0-60 time was 5.5 and 1/4 mile was 14.1....But it really depends on which magazine you are reading...they test the vechicles themselves...I think the cubic inches of the motor is 281...I could be wrong.

I also heard 281. I think that is correct but I wasn't sure. What were your first additions? I'm just trying to get an idea of where to begin.

I lined up against a 2000 GT at HRP and he ran a 14.23 and I forget the MPH. He was AOD and had a K&N and pulleys. Mustangmom2k on the female forum runs about 14 flat or 13.95 at about 100 MPH, with an AOD, but I don't think she's bone stock (at least a k$N, etc.).

The 4.6 modular motor is a 281.

For tech questions and upgrade advice, you should post in Modular Madness...

My tip on racing, is don't bog the motor. It is better to spin the tires than let it bog. A buddy of mine runs a 1990 LX with decent mods. When he bogs the motor he ends up with around a 14.5, but by letting the tires spin a little he sees more like a 14.0-14.2. The reason I use him as an example is because my car has slicks, and my friends car has a b-cam so it should rev like your 4.6, and with his street tires, it would compare better to your car. Other than the launch, the rest is just floor it, and shift as fast as possible. Oh ya by the way the 4.6 is 281 cubic inches. And they love to rev comparred to the 5.0s so gears would be a good mod to do.

Cool

welocme to the V8 mustang world! tip on racing: get out to the track & just race! talk to other mustang guys there & get their tips for running on that particular track, try not to bog, run the hell out of your mod motor(high revs!). as far as mods, get 3.55 or 3.73 gears & a good aftermarket exhaust to start & you will be showing taillights to most stock cars out there! the more you practice, i'm told, the better you'll get. i'm still learning myself! good luck!

Didn't LizardKing (from this forum) in his '99-'01 GT run 13.68 stock except (theres always an except ) he removed his front right light for a ram air effect.

The phrase "bog the motor" seems to be quite popular. I get the idea that it is not good but I am unsure as to what exactly it means.

LizardKing has a freak of nature for a car...

The stockers I've seen at the track support a 14.3-14.0 time slip....

Agreed. My track observations have been in the 13.9 - 14.3 range too. What impresses me the most about these newer GT's is the mph.

Whatever happened to the Lizard?

Oh, and welcome to the Board, 2001GT.

Bogging the motor is when the engine speed drops out of the power band, resulting in extremely slow acceleration until the revs pick up again. This happens if you don't launch at a high enough RPM and let the clutch out too quick.
My best street tire launches come from revving it to around 2000-2500 rpm and slipping the clutch off the line.

2001gt my first mods were the works---heads intake, maf, ect......Had the money to spend so I went all out....It was not a week after installing them I decided to order my stroker motor and put it in. I am going to put a supercharger on VERY soon too. Hoping to hit mid to low 10's after that.
