Hmmm....I was looking in a mag. and dhigh output, but didn't mention a aftercooler. Think it's a different supercharger? Because I'm looking at the actual add, and it's vortech's and it's totally diff.
|
Nah man, when I was looking at that originally I was like WTF!! It must have a cooler! Read down and it did.. I think they are just calling that pkg the "High Output" pkg.. nothing wrong with that:)
|
Well I think that is some sorry horsepower for $7000, Only 418hp? Come on...I can get 420rwhp with heads and a cam, for 1/3 the cost almost.
|
I agree wholeheartedly!! That is one of the very reasons we all love the mustang sooo much. We can make it faster so much easier. The #s on the lt1 are very impressive though. $3800 and you have a stock motored lt1 with over 400hp. Sure the ls1 has more ponential, but it cost. You're not gonna be able to up the boost(on the ls1) but so much before you're buying a new motor with 10.5:1 compression. That is why I said a lt1 is very attractive to me.
Don't get me wrong, I love a ford but they better do something by 2003 or.... I think a black 97 T/A vert with a blower (and a few other mods) would look very nice in the driveway next to my fox. |
Well if it's any help to the topic, I ran a 14.0@100.7 my VERY FIRST TIME EVER at ANY track! My '99 Cobra had "R" rated 245's out back and a VERY dirty OEM filter. Going back to the track next week with the 4.30's, k&n, and ram air'd modified air box. The track and weather conditions were baaaaaad and my first race was against a '98+ Camaro(LS1) and he ran a 13.9@10x?
|
Just adding flames to the fire...
k. If my STOCK 2000 GT runs 13.66 I have not problems believing a 01 Cobra can run 13.5. In fact if Car & Driver rate the Cobra at that speed, I think it would be easy to do better. They are the ones that rate a 99GT at 14.7 (WTF!!!).
(BTW, ...it's been a while just thought I would say hi! :D) |
I bet I could grab some 12's with the SS stock if I came to Canada.
|
Weather is not that different up here man.
I got a three 13.6xx up to know in 20c temprature... and I got tones of 13.75x+ in 30c+. |
I didn't say the weather was different up there. Sounds like the tracks are nicer or something.....
|
The 1992 350 Z28's had 9.75:1 compression, and starting in 1993, even the LT-1 had 10.5:1 compression.

Really?? Thanks bro.. I was going to research that.
You realize I was kidding about the T/A?? I was surprised noone came back at me!:) If plans go like I hope they do, I'll have a new mustang in 2003. It depends on what they are offering then. I would like to have a GT with over 300hp, stock. A new Cobra is not out of the question though. Just depends on what is available at the time. In the back of my mind, I was hoping someone at Ford would see this post:D. If they put a strong 5.0 mod or better yet a 5.4 in the GT or Cobra.. I think we will have something here. 5.4 mod with 320 hp N/A would be a great starting point... I can see it now.. new black Cobra vert with blacked out windows and a blower... DON'T FORGET THE FORGED PISTONS THIS TIME, FORD!! Lizard King... I was looking at the member list the other night.. wondered what happened to ya. |
It's pretty easy to get over 300hp from a 1996-1998 4.6L GT. Swap on 99GT heads and cams, along with a Bullitt intake and you'll probably be knockin at the 300hp door.
That's mostly because the older 4.6L SOHC GT engines used different pistons, making for higher compression. I believe I've seen about 11:1 quoted. I will in all likelyhood be getting rid of my Fox Body in the spring and getting a 99GT or newer. I hadn't even thought about considering a 96-98GT until the performance on the 99GT head/cam swap information started to float around. I would now consider them. |
You read that MM&FF, where the did the head and intake swap on a 98 I believe? And it made 320rwhp, and I was like HOLY CRAP!!!! That is awesome, untill I read that it had a 6PSI Powerdyne, Bassani X-pipe, exhaust, and some other stuff+the heads/intake swap.
|
320 rwhp AFTER heads and a Blower??? IEEEESH...that isn't all too good.
|
Yeah, pretty crappy. From a car making 215hp stock to 385 with newer factory parts and a 6psi blower.
6psi will get you what? 75hp maybe on that combo? Did they change the pistons too? It was already running 11:1, not the best CR for a blower. Anyway, with 6psi that keeps the car around 300hp with just the head/cam swap, like I said. I think those are pretty nice numbers for a street car. |
***320 rwhp AFTER heads and a Blower??? IEEEESH...that isn't all too good.
The heads were just new 99+heads i believe, and they weren't ported or anything. The guy was only making like 252rwhp without the heads/intake swap. I don't think they put a cam in it did they? I am not sure, it's been a while since I've read the article. But it was a HUGE gain over his previous heads/intake. Maybe not all that impressive on paper, but 252 rwhp vs. 323rwhp(I think) is a good gain. |
