Street Races Last Night
Well we got to the races and it was roaring, tons of cars, packed full, we were waitin for the 911 to show, and the cops came. Broke everything up.
So a small group of us met up and we ran races in a business park. There were some truckers loading up there and they said they were cool w/ it and wanted to watch. I ran a 383 stripped elcamino w/ Vic Jr heads 10.5:1 compression, and a 175shot of n20, on ET Streets. We ran first time and we both hit the n20 and mine DIDNT GO! so he pulled 4 cars on me almost instantly. We ran again w/ the bottles out. He says his car goes 12.3's on motor. We ran and were dead even till 3rd and he put 3/4 of a car on me. I think he was just throttling it back though so he wouldnt break out and beat me by too much. So I lost $20, and then I ran a 93 z28 that I had whopped on before and we ran almost dead even, I barely pulled him by the top of 4th by half a car. I ran my friends 2000 lightening w/ just exhaust and gave him a 2 car head start and he beat me! I could barely barely pull on him, damn that thing is fast!! Also my car got SUPER squirly on the slicks at higher speeds, somethings weird with it, it never used to do that before, it was going all over the road, everyone though I was going to crash into the elcamino. It was scary as ****, i could barely control the ************, so I gotta figure out why the hell its doing that. Im kinda pissed off at my car, its just running slow, and the nitrous constantly is having problems, not to mention it almost killing me w/ the slicks on, it just felt s-l-o-w! And to top it off, half way while changing back to my street tires the truckers tell us they heard the sheriffs are comin on the police scanner, so we are ******* frantically tryin to get my other tires on, Ive never worked so fast! But we got out in time, we passed em going the other way. Skyler |
Usually nitrous problems like that come down to bad grounds, or the microswitch on the throttle not making contact.
Sorry to hear about the rough night, but you can't win 'em all. :( |
Damn, looks like you'll need to get the green machine after all. If it's truely a non CA car I'll be wanting to see what you can do with the SD system. ;)
Don't know what's up with your car right now, but like I said, I wouldn't be suprised if your computer was just wacked. Seeing you dropping races pisses me off about as much as it does you, probably. SOB. Nice job getting out of the hot water with the pigs, though. Start calling you Bo Duke with that T bar, hahaha. |
Yeah my cars been real inconsistant. It feels fast and then slow, fast and then slow... Im going to do a full tune up and smog it, and then put the off-road H pipe back on. Anyone wanna buy a almost brand new hiflow cat h pipe?
Think Im going to try and track down a holley intake, port my heads, and put on some 1.7 rockers... My car should weight in about the same as yours EXGM, so if yours is going 112 w/ those same parts mine hopefully should be in the same ball park. See I raced a couple of 103mph trapping cars and I couldnt even pull them. I BARELY BARELY pulled a stock lightening at 80mph. Skyler |
Damn man, sorry to hear your having problems with your stang. At least you didn't actually crash, though! Always could be worse! Good luck diagnosing your problem.
|
Sky,
Sounds like you need to get some stickers on your quarter windows. That always seems to make other cars faster when they run out of mod's to do. (J/K). Where did you guys go on Saturday night? Do you drive out here to Oxnard and meet at Wagon Wheel? |
MAN!!!!!!!!!
Like everyone else sorry to hear about the problems. I would be scared to drive my car around your neck of the woods. Not alot of street cars that fast around here. Man your FAST.
|
Don't forget to check the basics like compression and leakdown.
The Holley intake is the kicker. It is nice to swap a perfectly good GT-40 intake for a Holley and actually FEEL a difference. Now I need a custom chip. Driveability is kinda in the toilet. So expect to get a chip as well. |
Hmm I wonder why, Ive finally got mine driving and idleing awesome. I can hardly believe it but it idles just almost like stock!
Yeah I need a holley intake, but Im considering a 351 swap here so I may hold out. Skyler |
Sky - Something is definitely wrong with your car. The inconsistency makes me wonder about the computer (a la Unit) or electrical. Hell, maybe you just need a complete tune-up?
Concerning your experience on the slicks...I had the exact same thing happen to me once. At the track on borrowed slicks with around 9 psi in them. I dropped the clutch at 4000 and couldn't believe the feeling. I had a 1.7x 60' time, deep into the 12's for sure...then as I'm getting to the top of second the back end starts moving back and forth. Not much at first, but it kept getting worse. By middle of 3rd I thought I was going to put her in the wall! The back end was uncontrollable. I slowed down in a controled manner and coasted throught the traps. As soon as I got back to the pits, I swapped the slicks for my drag radials and watched the rest of the night. I firmly believe that there wasn't enough pressure in the slicks, but the guy that let me borrow them insisted that 9 psi was perfect??? Good luck with finding the "bugs" in your car and keep us posted. E |
Yeah I was running 10 psi, and at the track I run about 12, and Ive never had a problem, but thats just how it was for me too.
Im swapping in a different computer this weekend and giving it a full tune up and putting the other H-pipe back on. Skyler |
Was anyone else getting squirrely at the end of the road?
|
Nope just my car, but the other guy was on ET streets but I dunno how much pressure.
SKy |
I happened to me on the top end to with some 9 inch slicks with around 10-11 psi in them. I was told at the time by the old timers at the track that slicks will do that when they get old and start to deteriorate.
It must be true, because I have run plenty of times with 10 psi in my ET Streets and never had any top end sway at all. |
Hey sky, I run mine @ 15 psi and have no top end sway and I actually run better 60 times with 15 psi vs 10 psi. I am not really sure why but it does cut a little better 60ft with 15 psi in mine.
Do you have tubes in yours? If so then I would try about 12 psi and go up untill you get rid of the sway but with out hurting your 60ft. I tryed to running 10 psi in them first and was told by someone after almost recking my car that they needed around 15 psi in them. You should see little difference in your 60 ft but will notice a big difference in the way it feels when it runs down the track. Try it and let me know. |
