Default Water box burn outs?

Seems like some are advocating water box burn outs for street tires? Maybe I'm just out of it, but this couldn't be correct, could it?

All of the more knowledgeable folks I asked the first time I went drag racing said to just go around the water box and spin them very briefly to clean them off on your way up to the starting line. If you do a huge burnout with street tires and get too much heat in them they get slippery and your launch will suffer.

I just like doing burnouts anyway so i'll go in the waterbox. My poorest times are without burnouts, but that was when too much traction would cause wheel hop (and result in less).

Most of the time i wouldn't, but i like to try different things each run, no reason to say "No, i'll NEVER do that".

If i run slicks i hit the waterbox, its good to warm them puppies up before the launch,if iam on street tires ill do a small burn-out just to clean em a little. On the street,it all depends on who is there and how many females are watching.....yeah !!!! LOVE THEM PONY GIRLS!!!

I've done long nasty burnouts, quick spins to knock the dirt off, and none at all, and it made no difference in 60' times or 1/4 times. Suposedly, if you do a long burnout on regular street tires, it releases the oils in the tires and will shoot your traction to hell. I didn't notice any difference, so I just dry spin them for about 1 to 2 seconds to clean them and then stage. I have never gone through the waterbox with street tires. There's no need to. If you drive a v8 and cant break street tires loose to clean them, you definalety have no business at the track, IMO.
