Post turbo neon talking smack

My buddy told me that this neon was talking smack about mustangs and camaros. He said he beat a supercharged mustang GT with the neon. He also said his neon is putting out 275hp which is hard to believe without massive psi or no2. So i said i wanted to race him so hopefully a race will be set up so i can see what he has.

I know my stang isn't that fast but i don't think this kid is even close to 275 horse. He never ran his car so no one knows how fast it is. I just got my asp pulleys today so maybe i'll wait till i get them on before i do any racing.

oh yea, get this...this is a direct quote from this neon kid: "I have 275 horsepower right now, but if i take everything out, i'll be around 300." WTF???? correct me if im wrong but lightening up a car does not add horsepower...

If he really is pushing 270hp, what should he run? I probably won't have a chance but i'll make it close because my little pony is a rocket from 0-60.

Cool

I wouldn't worry about it. Run him anyways. He's obviously full of hot air by the 300 hp statement. Make him prove it. It's all talk till he shows what he's got. If he won't race then you definitely know he's full of crap. Just make him prove it.

I second that!
Put up or shut up

With a good launch you should get a great jump on him, (gotta love that pony torque)
he will still be waiting for his turbo to spool up
take him

Don't think you'll blow him away though. I've seen a bunch of those cars with the usual fart pipe and a little spray going low 14's at around 98 mph....

Talking

Most of those boys just talk a lot of smack.

Get on it hard from the start and don't play with him at all. Maybe he will be able to keep up, maybe not. Post the results when you are done.

I know he has the turbo but I don't think he's sprayin it too. He also claims to have a 6-speed. Don't the neons come with a 5-speed and not a 6?

If the rain holds off tonight, i'll race him tonight. It's gonna be a nice night of 65 deg. weather.

If he has any kind of commendable turbo setup.....YOUR DEAD IMO.

He's probably just talking trash.

The only way he has a 6 speed is if he has a sequential tranny which means custom gear sets and no clutch shifting. If he has the money to buy a sequential tranny(they start off at around 8,000), then his motor should be a real mean machine and not only 275 hp. He is full of $hit. Smoke him like a Garcia Vega.

I saw him last night but for some reason, he didn't have his car. We talked for a little bit though. He said his turbo runs at 9 psi. He also said the company "guarantees" at least 270 hp from the turbo which i find hard to believe because the neons only have like 150 hp stock. I don't know of any kit that guarantees an increase of 120% in horsepower.

He never mentioned any fuel system upgrades either...oh get this, he is still running the stock tranny too!! I think if he knew how to drive it, that trany would have been toast by now.

He said we can race for 100 bucks but maybe instead of 100 bucks, i'll pay for his dyno test if he wins. Then he'll know how much power he is making.

He is definately full of it. At 9psi he is running a little over half an atmosphere, and with 100% efficiency he would be looking at around 245 hp. Since 100% efficiency is impossible(thermal losses), I'd think he'd be closer to 200-210 at the crank.

Take care,
Dave

You seem to know a little about turbos, but you forget that different sized turbos flow at different rates and more horsepower can be made. For example, a stock Eclipse turbo at 10lbs makes less horsepower than a 18G turbo at 10lbs at the same RPM because the 18G is more efficient and is compressing more air because of it's larger size. Without knowing the size of his turbo, you can't realistically guess at the HP made by the car. But seeing all of the BS he has been saying, I think you are probably right about that HP rating since the Hahn Racing stage 1 kit gives about 210 to the crank. I am assuming that is what he has which means he is a 14 second car.

I'll have my pulleys on in the next couple of days and hopefully they will help me a little bit. Even if he is making 210hp at the crank, I don't think he should be talking all the trash that he is.

Neon R/T's or ACR's w/ intake and exhaust w/ awsome drivers have laid down 14.9-15.0's. If he does have the Hahn Race Craft system, you might be in for a surprise. Those things are very light and can move w/ the turbo's. Even if it is a good system, by the way he talks, you know he doesn't know how to drive. So go and give it a try. WTF, worst thing that happens is you lose, go get more mods, then try again.

Well, he said that he has a BIG problem with traction. So while he is spinning, I'll just hook and go. All I have to to is get a good launch and wait for him to catch me. It should be good.

I hate to say this to a fellow stanger but your probalby not going to win I whooped on a turbo sohc civic once when my car only had a chip, k&n, Hpipe, and pulleys but I hit a 14.6 stock and was running a little quicker after those mods. I REALY hate people that talk shitt like that too, he probably deserves to get his azz beat. Slap on the pulleys, bump your timing and bust a decent launch and you MIGHT hold him off. Good Luck.
