Tauras SHO

Can someone give the the numbers on these things? Stock? With intake and exhaust? With a supercharger? A buddy of mine picked one up from his uncle for a buck (yeah, $1.00).

Anyhow, he doesn't know much about cars (he thinks he does, though...for instance, he told me that he's fixing up his old V-6 S-10 to put 600 hp out at the fly...yeah....it suddenly smells like something in here...). He was spouting off some numbers, and I just wanted to find out for sure how he'll run.

What year SHO? I think the older SHO's had a 5.0 with ~200HP. I'm pulling this out of my *** , but I think it rings a bell. The new ones aren't as fast and have a smaller V8. I'd do a search on this car. There has been may posts in the past.

The older ones have a 3.0L V6 DOHC yamaha engine. Good for low 15s. A buddy of mine had a 95 and ran 15.4 @ 92.2. I was very impressed. The newer SHO has a 3.9L V8. Not sure what it'll run, though.

I thought it was a 3.4L V8. Anyway the older V6s are actually faster. Better weight/hp ratio.

Took my dads 94' to the track (1/8TH) it ran 9.9 @ 74+ spun just a bit! the only mods were K&N with air silencer removed! it was rated @ 220HP!

Alrighty!

The early SHO's had a 3.0L Yamaha assembled V-6 producing 220hp. With the manual tranny they were capable of low 15 second running.

A couple years after their intoduction the auto SHO's were mated to a slightly larger 3.2L V-6 assembled by Yamaha, it to produced 220hp, but because of it's greater size, it was able to give the auto the additional grunt needed.

The 3.4L V-8 SHO was a short lived car, from 1997-1998 or 1999. It made 235hp, but came only with an auto tranny, and the high revving nature of the engine with an auto tranny is what caused that cars performance to slump compared to earlier 5spds. It didn't lose too much though, and it still ran in the mid 15's.

The only problem, especially I'm sure with the older versions, they cost serious $$ to fix. Compare to an RX-7 TT. I'm not joking either. A whole exhaust from Ford could knock a couple grand off your account.

Beware the forced induction on these cars, there are quite a few companies that offer performance enhancing parts for these cars and some will fly. I'll SHO You Performance is one of the larger ones.

Yeah, his is the 220 hp V-6. He's got some funds available and he mentioned getting a supercharger. Don't know what will end up happening with the car. Fairly impressive numbers, and at least it's a Ford http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif.

Tell him to be careful modifying the V6's. The tranny's were weak.

I raced a 97 3.4 V8 at the now defunct Detroit Dragway (RIP) and the best I could get out of the car was a 15.998. (I dont remember the mph). There were 4 of us that drove the car that day and we only had 1 15 second run out of the car out of like 20 runs..

The earlier comments about SHO parts being pricey are VERY valid. Be careful modifying them.

I have a friend at Ford in the Engine Department that developed the engine with Yamaha, it was the most expensive engine to come out of Ford at the time.

One last thing, the 3.9L V8 was mentioned...the 3.9 is a Jaguar designed engine which goes in the Lincoln LS and will be in the new T-bird come May.

I would also like to note that the motors were designed by Ford, built in Canada, and shipped for final assembly to Japan by Yamaha.

Which is why I feel calling it a Yamaha motor is total horse manure.

At least the 3.4L V-8, anyway.
