Question timming question

My friend bumped his timing up on his 91 GT and it took almost 3/10 of a second of his 1/8 mile time. Is that bad for your car? Would it be worth it?

Bunping your timing up is good but you have to listen very carfully to your engine afterwards. Listen for knocks and pings, If that accurs, back your timing off. Also you may want to gap your sparkplugs a little higher. I have my timing set at 14 btdc, but my sparkplugs are at the stock recommendations. Keep asking around, some people know more about this than I do.

I do recommend that you do bump it, just make sure you watch for detonation and pre-ignition. Other than that, hope I've helped.

Agree with bigwhite bumping your timing up will add some hp and trq but beware the danger of detonation.

Buying a timing adjuster (T/A) and playing with it at the track may be the best way to go for most of the 4.6ers. That way you can see the advantages.

Its also a good idea to run premium fuel if you bump the timing up.

be careful, too much timing will give you detonation, and if you have too much you'll fry your pistons. Trust me, I know from personal exp.
