Default Tire size?

I need new rear tires, how big can I go or should I go on 15 by 8 inch wheels without having to pull out the old hammer and adjust the wheel wells?

(NEED HOOK UP)

I have 255/60/15s and I am going bigger with the 275/50/15 when I get my rear control arms so I can take off the quad shock to make room for them

275s on an 8" rim might be pushing it - that's almost 11" of rubber, so I would stick to a 255 at most. I tried 255s on stock 7" 10-holes on my '87 and it just wore the middle of the tire out, even with slightly reduced pressure, so you might run into this with 275s on 8". Not to mention it didn't help my hookup because the contact patch was actually smaller than with a narrower tire.
