Tired of the excuses

Now I know my car is not REAL fast but it is a mustang hehe.

One night I was out and I was actually running a brand new S-10 4.3 5spd. Naturally that race wasn't even close cause he had no traction hehe.

Anyway here come the excuses. I have another friend with a Typhoon. Perfectly capable of pulling supposed 13s in the quarter. We make a U to go back to the hang out. I start pulling on the Typhoon I was thinking to myself this should not be happening. It did I blew him away at like 85 mph and continued to put him back. I was like hell yeah hehe.

Back at the hang out he pulls up and starts spouting off these excuses like the computer will not let it in overdrive till the ambient tempurature warms up a bit.

These are my feelings let the weather get warmer and I will beat you again I don't care. I like racing.
Light em up. :-)

Are you in a GT or Cobra? Stock, light mods, heavy mods? I had trouble with a Typhoon one afternoon, this is why I am wondering.

Hmm... no offense but there probably was something wrong with his Typhoon if you beat him or maybe he had traction problems. As to the computer not letting it go into overdrive before it warms up that is total b.s. When you race you don't want the car/truck to go into OD ganyway. Either way nice race.

My neighbor is an avid typhoon and cyclone freak. I do remember him telling me that the sometimes the typhoons won't go into overdrive until the ambient or whatever it is warms up. He said that this was their biggest problem, and that the cyclones operate on something different and that's why they are a little quicker. The typhoon and cyclone out dragged a Ferrari in the quarter when they tested it...I know they are fast. 13's if not high 12's stock.

Yeah they are fast and I know that thing would smoke my car badly when it came to a standing drag. But I would still like another crack at him when the "ambient temperature is correct" for his pampered little baby. My car was running fine hehe.

All cars that I'm familiar with that have efi and aod have temperature sensors that won't allow a shift into overdrive before a pre-set coolant temp. What that has to do with drag racing is somewhat of a mystery to me.

From what I remember the Typhoon was a high 13 second car. There were a few different Ferrari's out back then, it may have been a pokey one that it raced.

The Typhoon got most of it's performance from the awesome jump due to it's 4wd. After the 0-60 they were no better than the 5.0's.

I'm sure they have quite a bit of potential when modded, but they are still heavy.

FivepointOH 01-04-2001 01:00 AM

Yeah I'm pretty sure they run somewhere around 14.0 in the 1/4(give or take a few tenths). Like me and Rev said the OD thing shouldn't have anything to do with racing.
