Talking Took a 5.0 in my 99 GT

Well, this happened awhile ago but I never got around to posting it up!

On 1960 (busy 6 lane stoplight loaded street around here) I was at a redlight maybe 10:30ish. Well, a 95 5.0 pulls up and gives me "the rev" heehee So you know me, I rev back! Then I hear a tiny rev from one lane over... its a Camaro. IT'S ON!!! So the lane line up would be me in the center, 5.0 on my left, Camaro on my right. I'm thinkin' "this is GREAT! A three car race!" Anyways, light turns green and the battle begins! Camaro is left wayyyyyy back there so it's just me and the 5.0. Anyways, I pull him pretty good. So then he wants to talk so I pull in to a parking lot and when he gets out of his Stang... I see it's a 6 foot tall, body builder black guy! man, not to sound racist cuz I'm not, but he SCARED ME BAD!!!! My friend Andy in the passenger seat is like: ohh **** . Anyways, the guy turns out to be real cool and he was saying he never ever saw a girl drive like that before!

I thought that was a pretty good victory considering he had a lot more mods than me and I had a full tank and a passanger.

Nice kill. From experience you should outrun most 5.0 out there, unless you see heavy modifications such as supercharger...

I let my GFriend take a run a the track, it was here second time driving the car. She get's sorta of insane behind all that power. On her first run she pulled a 14.4!!! with a reaction of 0.8. I thought that was pretty good for a first run at the track!!! (my first run with the stang was a 14.7)

I don't know, some of you gals are just built with the racing sense... and it's some times intimidating. Like you don't know what the hell is hitting you...

Nice kill, Looks like he shouldnt have revved you up. I love the new GT's but I realy dont think a supercharger is necessary for a 5.0 to keep up. I havent been beat by one since my cam swap.

fastang, I consider a Cam upgrade pretty heavy... I'm sure your car does not sound like a normal 5.0 with new cams. I'd probably think twice if I'd see yah...

lol, Thanks Cam (95mustanggt). Yeah lizrd you would probalby think twice, but you would still rev me up Because I know I would too. I have trouble resisting races even if I know Im gonna lose. My car looks totaly stock but does sound particularly nasty. Especialy in the mornings. The B303 cam has a great sounding idle. Its still got the factory cat back and headers on it but its loud as he11 with just an H pipe. I've had to prove it many times by showing people the Ford emblems on my mufflers.
I realy wouldnt consider a car heavily modded untill its got a set of heads and an intake on it, Im still using the stockers...for now. I kinda like beating people and showing them a stock intake and cat back. Its emberassing. Not for long though. I was gonna get my longtubes and flows put on last weekend but couldnt. By the 24th I will have it done and I just might have a GT40 intake too. Then we'll see what she runs.....I just hope I dont let anyone down

Sounds like some 99+ are starting to get some really big heads I will offer a hand popping it if you want. I have raced several MODDED 99+ and have yet to have one come within 2 cars, sure you may have a freak but don't act like they all run that way and you sure don't need heavy mods to beat one.

I read a lot of the posts over at the Camaro websites, and it's funny how all the fbody guys are so proud of the LS1 engine. Im kinda seeing the same thing on the stang sites, in that many of the stang guys are in awe of the new GT. I have one, and they definitely are great cars, and deserving of respect, but like Sedanman said, they are surely not something that a modded 5.0 can not disperse of...IMO. Let me just say on behalf of all the 99+GT owners out there, that we are not all cocky and think we can't be beat. All the knowledgeable ones of us know what's up.

Let's not freak out here. I'm not saying that 5.0 are slow, the experience I've had this summer was the ones that are lightly modded (when the guy says I got my exaust done, type of thing...) I would win.

Here is a question. What does a stock 5.0 run? I figure they have to be in the mid to high 14s... Is there a big difference between the sn95 5 liter and previous body?

Here is a race against another 5.0 this summer: http://members.mustangworks.com/jetp...vsLXStang2.mpg
I raced that guy, who if I recall was smaking me that he could smoke me anyday because his car had some special mods (which I forget today) All I know is it was fun, shutting his trap.

BTW, there is no way in hell I diss any or other fellow racer, unless he talks smack and does not want to race.

This is what I have seen in the differences between the SN95 and the Fox body 5.0's. I could be wrong but this is what I have read and seen The typical Mass air stick shift fox runs a 14.9 to a 14.4 depending on all the variables. The hardtop manual SN95's can do the same. I beat a few manual foxes at the track when my car was stock. I was pulling constant 14.70's with an occasional 14.6. at 97 mph. The auto and vert SN95's just seem to be slower. Those are the ones that keep crackin 14.9's and 15 second passes. The SN95's do weigh exactly 200 pounds more but they also got a 10 hp increase over the 93 fox to compensate. Some people will debate this saying that the 93 had the same hp as the 94. The 93 was rated on average not peak hp. They are probably right. I hope this clears things up a little.

also, I wasnt powershifting when I hit the 14.6. So a 14.5 with a stock SN95 5.0 manual hardtop should be possible, unless my car is a freak.

Good race there QTpie!
Fastang, why would you replace the best flowing Intake on the market? Or do you not have a Cobra? I forget with all these people on here. Anywho, If you have a Cobra Intake, just extrude hone it and be done with it. Best gains in the biz.

Props and congratulations Jodi. I wasnt trying to take anything from your kill at all. I just dont agree that it takes a supercharger for a 5.0 to keep up but it definitely takes a few mods. Congrats and good luck on your future races. I realy like it when girls race too.
