took down a GTI 1.8T
this dude and i were talking all sorts of **** on another message board (mwir.net) and we finally got to race last night. he though he could take me (and i told him i have slicks and am spraying a 100 wet shot) but i took him off the line and it was all over. i didn't even spray. import kids are fools.
oh yeah, and i had 30 PSI in my E.T. Streets, so i spun em launching and i still took him. |
Sweet kill, those can be played with fairly easily because of the turbo. What did he have done to it anyways?
Have you had yours to the track to see what it runs? Matt |
Bluefox91LX - Great kill! Did this VW guy go back to his messageboard and post his loss? If he didn't, post the loss yourself on their 'board. Maybe you'll get luck and race one of his friends for money! Take the money and run!

Nice Kill  They still can be made pretty quick but obviously not this one hehe.
Later, Nick |
Nice kill man. Maybe after he takes his foot out of his mouth he'll make up an excuse why you won. - John

what does MWIR stand for?
one thing i've learned about the 1.8T.............very few people seem to have a realistic idea of what they can and can't do........many overestimate it, many underestimate it....very few have an accurate idea of what it can do stock or with whatever list of mods i've had people in 2.2 auto cavaliers and 6 cylinder explorers tell me that they can smoke my ish........ and i've also been chillin' at the track eating a bbq sandwich and had kids tell LS1 owners that i could smoke them.........which really, really sucks cause it makes me look like the dumb-arse, when i never made any claims about my car |
1.8T
So what does it do at the track? Really just curious.

02 model 1.8T - 10 psi stock, 5 spd
stock - realistically expect 14.9 to 15.5 at the track.....magazines posted 15.3's.....most drivers on message boards seem to claim 15.1x's.........in stock trim, it tends to put 161-169 horses to the ground intake/exhaust/downpipe/diverter valve/chip - roughly $2000 or less in mods.......not unrealistic to expect 13.9-14.4 at the track and about 210-220 horses the 99-01 model 1.8T's are 7 psi stock expect the same results with the same mods and about .3 to .5 slower in the quarter in stock trim |
How many psi can the stock turbo put out? And how many psi can the stock engine handle b4 you start frying head gaskets and stuff like that? For example, the Eclipses/Talons are about 16psi, my MX-6 turbo was around 14psi. I'm asking cuz I'm wondering what a all stock 1.8t, except a boost controller on max, can do. It's what about 7-10hp per jump in psi?? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

the stock turbo is a KKK (it is more commonly referred to in this country as a K03)
personally, i wouldn't turn up the boost in otherwise completely stock trim, heat is a real issue unless you go with an exhaust that is more free-flowing..........also the stock diverter valve is plastic and can't even handle the stock boost for long, but for about $150 you can get a DV that'll handle all the boost you can throw at it however, i seen many set the boost at 1.1 bar (roughly 16 psi, i think)on an otherwise stock car and have no problems other than blowing out a diverter valve with bolt-ons and a computer program, i've seen many a people run 1.3 bar (19 psi) and stay fairly reliable as far as how much the engine can handle........i've never really heard of anyone with any streetable setup having such problems.......volkswagen has been using that 1.8 block for 20 plus years now and it has a great reputation as far as the boost controller, i don't really know much about manual boost controller setups.........must veedub guys use and recommend a "chip" to reprogram the ecu.........the computers on these are pretty sensitive and i imagine turning up the boost without doing much to air/fuel ratios will throw a code real quick |
