Track times getting better
Here's my best times from last Tuesday at Beech Bend:
60': 1.999 1/8. 8.77 1/4: 13.58 MPH: 102.6 Keep in mind that this was on worn 225/60R15 tires, which don't even match. The left one is a Pirelli P4000 and the other is a Defender (WTF?). You can see where my priorities are by looking at my sig! This was also with 3.08 gears (which will be replaced this weekend with a 31 spline Eaton, axles, and 4.10's). |
Those are fairly good times considering you were on worn out radials and the car having no tune at all. Get some slicks and a good tune on that car..and you should have a fairly good time. Good luck with it :)
|
I would love to have a custom chip burned for it while it was on dyno, but I don' t know of any place in the area that burns chips. I am hesitant with the mail-order chips, I would rather have it done right the first. Does anybody know if the Mobile Dyno will be at NMRA World Finals? I know they had one last year, but I can't remember if they were burning chips or not.
I plan on buying a Tremec 3550 in about a month or so, then come the slicks. I have to drive this car everyday so I really don't want to break my T-5. |
Hey, not bad for the tires, but your MPH does not make sense.
Is your car running better than the 287rwhp in your sig. with the MAF and larger injectors???? With that kind of power, even with the gears, you should be trapping 104-106. With gears 108-110+. What are you shifting at?? Mike |
I am not sure what's wrong with the MPH. I have gotten a couple of 103's before. The 13.5 was run with at 80 deg and 100% humidity, so that might have something to do with it.
I could really tell a difference when I put the MAF on, and again with throttle body. I'm shifting around 5800 on the stock tach. I am probably going to run again tonite and try and play with the fuel pressure. Currently the FP is at 43 @0vac. |
The heat might kill a bit of et and MPH but not that much.
Stock tachs are also notorious for being off at higher RPM, you should get an aftermarket or programmed shift light. I had almost exactly the same dyno numbers and ran 13.2 at 110mph at 3050lbs w/o driver. So I would think either you are shifting too early or it is not tuned since the install of the MAF. Either that or the dyno was off!! Hope you get it sorted out, it is all in the tuning at this point. Mike |

I would think with his weight he should be trapping between 104 and 106 though. |
yeah, it needs a tune.. the mph is way off... I'm running faster with a heavier car and the stock cam...try bumping the shift point up to 6000-6100 on the stock tach...:D
|
I'm not so sure gears would add that much MPH. Usually steeper gears drop ET but MPH either stays equal or slows a bit.
I would think with his weight he should be trapping between 104 and 106 though. I think with tune and Gears. In any event going from 3:08s to 3:73 should put him in the power band quick and through the traps. In theory, MPH should increase not go down. However if he was increasing from 3:73 to 4:10's your logic would make more scense as top end would not improve much if at all. Just my .02. Go get that thing tuned and hit the track again.!! Best of luck. Mike |
I didnt know Beech Bend ran on Tue. By the way did U dyno at Total Performance if so what did U think of their place also do U think the dyno is accurate, I am wanting to get my 93 Cobra dynoed as well! Thanks Trey
|
I did dyno it at Total Performance, and there were several other mustangs there. A bone stock 5.0 GT w exhaust/K&N dyno'd 204rwhp, so I figured it had to be somewhat accurate. Beech Bend just started the Tuesday Night racing this year. It's a good opportunity to get a bunch of runs in.
I am crossing the line at about 4200-4300 rpm in 4th gear, so with the 4.10's should bump the rpm up quite a bit. If I can't hit 105 mph with 4.10's something is wrong. I am also going to get a tach w/ a shift light next week. The factory tach sucks a**!!! |
IM GOIN 13.2'S @102 MPH ON BEAT DRAG RADIALS AND NOT MUCH WORK ...327 gears since i broke my housing and had to buy a junkyard rear......car went 13.30's with 355 gears..soon to be low to mid 12's with 373s and heads..yayayayaa
|
Congratulations, you're the ****.
|
DUDE..DONT SMACK ON A COMPUTER....DID I SAY ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH YOUR TIME?..NO.....BUT FOR YOUR INFO..DONT RUN SLICKS ON STOCK AXLES..UNLESS YOU WANNA REPLACE THEM SHORTLY THERE AFTER.....
|
did they give you the A/F ratio when you ran on the dyno?
the 60ft is great for street tires... 43 seems a little high for the FP.. |
Quote:
im running 48 lbs of fuel and 18 degrees of timing.....so i dont think 43 would be too high |
No, I didn't get an A/F ratio at Total Performance because their wideband was screwed up. I also think it still needs more FP. I started out with what Trickflow recommended, 36-38psi, and it would fall on it's face between shifts. I turned it up to 42 psi, got better, and now I am at 43. I finally got a FP gauge on the schrader valve, so I am going to mess with it tomorrow night. I also just got the 4.10's, Eaton, and 31 spline axles in this weekend, so I am borrowing a pair of 9" slicks for tomorrow night, and praying my T5 doesn't break.

Here's my best run from last night with the 9"slicks:
60' 1.937 330' 5.548 1/8 8.54 MPH 82.12 1/4 13.24 MPH 106.12 Launching@5100, shifting@5900-ish (factory tach) Last night was my first time on slicks, so the launching could use lots of improvement. My best 60' was a 1.87 on a 13.36 pass, but I think I short-shifted 1-2. I hate to prove Invincistang wrong, but I picked up almost 4 mph and over 3 tenths changing from 3.08's to 4.10's. The car probably won't see slicks again until I get a tremec since I have to drive it everyday. 12's shouldn't be too far away with a little practice and maybe U/L control arms. How much MPH could I gain from a dyno-tune/custom chip? |
thats cool.. was the weather the same? and were the tires taller?
|
I WAS TOLD CHIPS ARE A WASTE OF MONEY..THIS IS FROM A GUY WHO RUNS 10'S ON A STOCK BOTTOM END AND HAS BEEN RACING STANGS FOR LIKE 8 YRS NOW.....YOU CAN GET BETTER PERFORMANCE FROM SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN A CHIP.
ARE YOU RUNNING 28 SPLINE AXLES ON THOSE SLICKS..IF SO BE CAREFUL..UNLESS YOU HAVE AMPLE SUPPLIES OF AXLES!!IF YOU DECIDE TO RUN THE SLICKS AGAIn LAUNCH higher......it should make your 60 ft times alot better..im gettin 1.8 on crappy drag radials..so we all know slicks should be better.....and if im correct..you already got the mph for 12's all day..like i said earlier..im 13.2 @102..your 13.2 @106 or 8..so that should be 12's:D |
Dark Knight: The weather was about 3 degrees cooler (74) and the humidity was 100% both times. Of course tonight it's 60 degrees and 70% humidity.
I believe the slicks were 1/2 inch taller. They were Hoosier 26x9's. Badazz89LX: I had just installed a 31 spline Eaton w/Superior axles along with the 4.10's. There was no way I was going to use slicks w/stock axles. A friend of mine twisted the end off a stock axle on Nitto's two weeks ago!! I have heard good/bad about the chips. The over-the-counter chips are crap, but I have heard good things about custom chips that are burned while on the dyno. There is no doubt I will make 12's pretty easily. I should be able to the 60' down in the 1.7 range when I get a few things sorted out (transmission, control arms, driving ability, etc.) Plus my torque boxes weren't in real great shape before last night, so they're probably in really bad shape now! I'm shooting for 12.80's when I get everything sorted out. |
you should be low to mid 12's with your mods.....i have similiar mods and im goin 13.2's..gettin my heads on soon....i was told when i get my heads and my 373's put in..ill be mid 12's at worst....and i believe you got a tad bit more done...so if its tuned right..yours should be a lil faster if not the same as mine:D
|
Our engine combos produce about the same power. The heads are the same, the specs on our cams are about the same and the intakes are close in performance.
I recently switched from 3.08s to 4.10s. The mph stayed the same but I lost a tenth; probably due to the extra wheel spin through the first 2 gears. I think your numbers will improve once you get an after market tach. The factory tach is way "off" in the upper rpms (over 5000). As an example, 5500 rpms on my autometer is equivalent to 6200 rpms on the factory tach. I shift at 5700 on the autometer tach and the factory tach needle is buried in the red and I still don't trip the limiter. So probably still short shifting with the factory tach. Good luck! |
my tach is off at 2000 rpm....factory tachs blow azz:D
|
running that high of fuel pressure means that you should probably step up to a bigger injector...you're having to increase the pressure to make up for lack of flow...:D

WHO IS THAT MEANT FOR? |
AJstang:
That's an awesome MPH! Do you have 24#'ers? If so, what is your FP set at? Also, do you have the 51014 cam? My car had that cam in it when I bought, but I was told it was a E-303, so I bought the Stage 1. Both cams are very similar in specs, and I would have kept the Lunati if I had known. I'm probably going to get a new tach next week. So many things to buy, so little money!! Transmission, clutch, tires, gauges, control arms, drag-launch kit, hhmmmmm what else?? :D By the way, has anybody else noticed the ad in 5.0 Mustang for Strange's adjustable shocks and struts? 10-way adj. struts for $111 a piece, QA1's=$230. Helluva deal! Just wondering. |
