New track times, what can be said?
I made 3 runs at the track, but am not happy with the times at all. I know I can get more out of my car, but I think the lack of traction might have a part to play in my times. Any suggestion or different techniques would be great. Also would it be better to get slicks or drag radials, and what size? Thanks in advance for any replys.
First run with 35 PSI in the tires, launching at 2500rpms. Spinning really bad. R/t 1.120 60' 2.465 1/4 14.504 MPH 100.99 Second run with 18 PSI in the tires, launching at 2000rpms. Hooked better, but still a little spin. R/T .757 60' 2.251 1/4 13.886 MPH 101.58 Third run with 16 PSI in the tires, launching at 2500rpms. This run I raced a 2000 Z28 with nitrous. We were neck in neck till I missed the 3rd gear shift. He ran 13.4@103, I think I would have been close to that on this run. R/T .662 60' 2.287 1/4 14.496 MPH 91.37

Slicks will always give your the best traction. either slicks or drag radials will help you to hook-up and will drop your time alot. for example i have run mid 13 with the same mph that your ran on first 2 runs. thats not with slicks either thats with g-60-15 mccrearys. it's a cheap tire that works pretty good but not as good as a slick. when launching do you just bring up rpm's against the brakes then floor it on green or do you feather it or what?? maybe try not going full throttle so quick to let the tires grab before hitting it.
slicks you will need a set of rim since they don't make them in 17" size. not sure what size for drag radials for 17 rims.

I was planning on getting ten holes, but I'm lost as to what to get for a tire. Slicks vs. drag radials, 28" vs. 26". Whats the difference, and what would be a wise buy?

Just some advice...
First of all, DRIVE THE CAR! Forget about all the "bullshit", and get your game face on, and just DRIVE THE CAR. There's alot more to staging and shifting etc etc than people think. Just drive it!
After that, can you say BFG Drag radial? These tires are sticky sticky sticky, ALL the time! As big as you can fit underneath your pony, this'll depend on suspension, wheel wells etc etc. I have a lowered rear, wheel wells cut out, and I am running 275/60R15's It gets a little tight on the bends on the freeway, but we're talking drag strip not I90. As far as launcing the car goes, if it spins come down a bit, if it bogs go up a bit. This is just a "feel" kind of thing. Get yourself a 2 stage rev limiter so you can "set" your launch RPM. Oh, and one last thing... DRIVE THE CAR!!!! It actually LIKES to get beat! Hope this helps, and let us know! |

Don't worry you seem to be in the right path. I started the same way as you w/ my modified, aod gt. I use to run the d.o.t. Indy SS profile G6015's from Mickey Thompson, but they were not even enough. Just like what Mike said "Get some real slicks", Get the 8.5 x 26 inch ET Drags by Mickey Thompsons on 10 holes. Don't even waste your money with BFGoodrich or Nittos, as they will never hookup as good as slicks. With the former Indy SS tires, my best et's were low 14's at 99-100 mph. I then switched to ET Drags and immediately went mid 13's at 105 mph. With more practice, I eventually got it down to 12.8's @ 105.5mph. The latter time was accomplished after buying a Hurst lineloc for a better burnout. I don't even stall the convertor, as I stage at idle and when the last yellow comes, I just flat punch it and am able to flash past my 3000 stall convertor. Without slicks, I was barking each gear and going sideways, wasting precious et and mph.

Are u racing at altitude? Your MPH seems a bit low.
Get some slicks though, world of difference. Skyler
