Is This True?
I've heard reports that well running stock 5.0s should put out 190hp to the wheels. I just wanted to ask you guyd if this is true or if these are false numbers. I have witnessed three Mustangs dyno numbers and they surprised me. The first was a buddy of mine with, Cobra intake, GT-40 heads, B-303 cam, injectors, pulleys, etc. and he pulled 250 at the wheels. Another was a guy at the place where I dynoed my car. His car was running poorly and he dynoed at 195 at the wheels. the final one is my car. My performance mods are, K&N, Pulleys, and a cat back. My car pulled 212 horsepower and 276 foot pounds of torque. I've seen as little as 240 foot pounds and that, in my eyes seems a little low. No offense, but I see Modular cars pulling 50-100 more horsepower, and 0-10 more foot pounds of torque. I myself prefere torque over horsepower, but these cars are running much faster than my 13.7. I love all Mustangs and this is my first post so I'm just learning how you guys are. So far, by what I've read you are a great bunch of guys and I will enjoy posting here. One more thing, What is your take on IMPORTS. I personally don't like them, and my son dreds them. How do you guys feel?

Imports SUCK. They are so lame, at least the ones that are mostly around here. i always see all these people at my high school that think dropped hondas and eclipses are cool. I dont understand it. Plus all the ones i have ever seen driving down the streets are sllllloooooowwwww. Anyways. i dont know much about rw power as i havent gone to the dyno yet. Hopefully will with the mustang club next year.

Greetings ThreePonyStable.
I hope you have fun here. I sure do, but then I'm nuts. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif I got three Ponys also. Well one of them might as well be a horse with no legs. (It doesnt run, and has rust problems, no brakes) Anyway, about the 4.6, the 99 plus 4.6 are some kickin little motors. I've rebuilt pushrod V8's and love them everybit as much. I used to hate the 4.6, always called it turd and made fun of it. THAT IS UNTIL I rode in my friends 99 GT 5spd. And now that we've modified them, they scoot now. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif ------------------ 64 1/2 "D" code Red Mustang Coupe. 289, C4, Mallory duel point. Most of everyone on this site hates ricers. I think there are only a couple ppl here that like them, but that is becuase they drive them. Glad to see ur son hates them too. It is usallyt he younger crowd that is in to them. But there are lots of younger mustang owener on here. Remember the 5.0 where only rated at 225 hp. The modulars are at 260 hp. Anyway welcome to the site it is alot of fun here.

190 sounds about right at the rear wheels, as the power has to go through the transmission and things before it gets to the road. like any car, there will be drivetrain loss, the mustang is no different.

Thanks for the welcome.
I used to have three Mustangs but now it's down to two. We sold our black '66 coupe and I primarily focus on racing my '91. The other one is the '89 ny son drives to school. Both of us love to modify our 5.0s and we both have our own goals. It's nice to have a 16 year old son who can appreciate a V8, and he also respects it's power, and doesn't trash it. |
Yeah 190rwhp is almost dead on for a near stocker. That's awesome that you and your son both have mustangs, you ever go line em up? ;o) I think you'll like it here quite well, and welcome to the board!

Yeah I notice that alot of young people are into the rice but luckily I grew up in a V8 family. I am 17 and just bought my car. I am lucky that i have friends at school that like V8's more than imports though there are stupid rice rockets with "picnic tables" on thier trunks LOL. No offense to any automatic drivers but after driving automatic for two years basically stick is so much more fun!!! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

Welcome aboard threeponystable. It's good to see more of us NE guys on here, I was starting to feel outnumbered http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif.
We have to remember to teach our kids that power comes from heads, cams, intakes and exhausts, not stickers, spoilers, ground effects and stereos. Most of the cars on this site look dang good and kick a**, and thats a powerfull blend. ------------------ '95 Chrome Yellow GT ragtop, KN filter charger, Dynomax cat back, Accel plugs and wires, Chromed '95 Cobra R's (bought for $19.95, now 2 are warped!). http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?1883 |
I am proud to say that besides rims and tint he hasn't done any cosmetic dress ups (gfx, wing, hood, etc.) He also hasn't put in a huge stereo, and has repeatedly told me how he won't associate himself with his generation, because of their love of imports.

Sounds like you've got one cool kid .....smart too http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif Welcome - you've found a really awesome site hereto the board. I've always hated rice myself. Where in CT are you, I'm not too far from Danbury.

I live in Berlin, about 5 minutes from the Berlin turnpike. Do you go to the Mustangs Unlimited shows, because I'm usually there, although not sporting my car.
