Wink do you want some fried rice? (long)

I thought that everyone might like this little story. Before I start I want to add that I just recently got my car back with the new motor in it and haven't had many races with it. I also got it dynoed yesterday and it made 284.8rwhp.(no torque readings due to the MSD box) Anyways, last night on my way home, my friend in his '97 WS6, and myself in my 91 GT, ran into 2 AWD turbo Eclipses and 1 turbo Integra.

First Race
As the both of us pulled out of the parking lot onto the main road these 3 cars (who had just come from the track, Cecil County MD) came flying up on both of us. This one Eclipse flys up next to me revving his little four banger like crazy. So not being one to turn down a good *** kicking, I throw a couple of revs back. This whole time my friend is dealing with the other two ricers behind us. We all know it's on. We pull onto a straight/open road and the Eclipse (the faster one)pulls up next to me. I'm cruising in 2nd gear at 2500rpm, and the Eclipse goes. I hammer it and pass him in 3rd gear putting about 2 car lengths on him. One down. I slow up and let the rest of the bunch catch up to me.

Next Race
We all kinda slow up and I want a shot at this Integra, and they all want a shot at me. We stop at a light and I'm in front, but there is a car next to me so they all line up behind me w/ the Integra leading them. The light turns green and we all take off. I launch well and grab second hard, the tires spin but grab pretty well. I hit third again and none of them can keep up. Meanwhile, my friend had his hands full.

Last time
We all got onto Interstate 95, it is five lanes wide at this point. We all lined up (Eclipse/Eclipse/Integra/Mustang/Trans-Am) and there wasn't much traffic out at all. One of the Eclipses took off, so we all went. I started in 3rd gear at 3500rpm and nailed it. The 302 screamed to its 5800rpm shift point and I hit 4th and chirped the tires. One of the Eclipses and the Integra kept up pretty well, but by the top of 4th I had pulled away from both of them. On the other hand my friend was only able to beat two of the three even w/ the 6 speed. He told me later that he could take one of the Eclipses, and ran about even with the Integra but the other Eclipse was just to fast for him. Oh well, we were close to beating them all.

After it was said and done, the 2 eclipses had enough and finally stopped pestering me. I slowed up and talked w/ the guy in the Integra. He told me that his car ran 11.80s. I told him I didn't think so because my car wasn't that fast (13.7@104.6 w/ 95degree weather and 96% humidity) and I toasted him and his friends. I guess the timing lights at the track are wrong. Hmmm, I wonder if they think my car runs 10s.

By the way it was really fun, but it was stupid and very dangerous. Next time I'm gonna try to stick to the track were it is safer and legal. Later

He was probably talking about the 1/8-mile.

You know what I always notice when talking to friends or other acquaintances...they talk smack about ford saying that either chevy is way better or imports are so fast...what I notice is that when I mention torque, horsepower and quarter times they have no clue what I'm talking about They think 0-60 in 7.5 seconds= 12 second quarter mile times I guess. I saw a ricer other day leaving orlando that I thought was funny. He had a honda Civic complete with Formula 1 wing and fart can exhaust, ugly tailights and he had rims on the back with low profiles and regular wheels on front with hubcaps...I thought I might have a chance with my 4000ln lincoln to keep close but I didn't do anything...I wished I had rolled down window though and asked him how many rear wheel horses since he obviously needed all that downforce and tire on the back

My daily driver is a 92 eclipse GSX. Be careful, they can be made pretty quick for a small cash outlay.

The eclipse was made in a few models

1.8 liter non-turbo
2.0 liter turbo front wheel drive
2.0 liter turbo all wheel drive (GSX)
The new ones are N/A sixes

The AWD gets off the line like a rocket, the FWD has some problems with wheel hop and traction but it moves along well after the start (less drivetrain power loss the the AWD)

Sounds like you had another encounter with the "wonder cars". It seems that no matter what it can actually do on the dragstrip, It is always faster when driven on the street. Because noone has ever lied about how fast their car was right? :-)

Don't get me wrong these were some fast cars. I mean they beat my friend in his Trans-Am. Which by the way he has just spent $1000 on gears, & exhaust so he doesn't get beat next time! He was so pissed. That one eclipse was really quick and the integra was no slouch either. And both the eclipses took off like they had slicks on them (AWD). But they were no 11 second cars. I just couldn't believe the guy in the Integra claimed that. I'm sure I'll run into them at the track and then we'll really see what those cars run. Later
