Default Very impressed for 1st time at track

Well my car and I took our first trip to the track together today and I must say my expectations were blown away. We had our Mustang club day at Desoto in Bradenton, Fl so it was ALL Mustangs. I happen to race 4 diff Cobra's talk about stiff competiton. The only thing other than what's it my sig was I ran a short belt to bypass my power steering and smog pump. All runs were also without the spare tire and about 1/2 tank of gas.

1st run: 97 Cobra Me
R/T 1.298 1.045
60' 2.274 2.333
330' 6.193 6.288
1/8 9.354 9.461
MPH 77.35 76.79
1/4 14.391 14.541
MPH 97.90 97.00

2nd run: 99-02 Cobra Me
R/T 1.021 .940
60' 2.168 2.222
330 5.935 6.132
1/8 8.983 9.282
MPH 80.93 77.38
1000 11.604 12.028
1/4 13.797 14.331
MPH 102.28 97.46

3rd run: 99-02 Cobra Me
R/T 1.640 1.265
60 2.077 2.275
330 5.751 6.178
1/8 8.828 9.339
MPH 81.24 79.36
1000 11.436 12.112
1/4 13.632 14.424
MPH 102.62 97.17

Last run: 97 Cobra Vert. Me
R/T .719 .719
60 2.332 2.300
330 6.350 6.210
1/8 9.500 9.385
MPH 78.20 77.25
1000 12.234 12.134
1/4 14.507 14.436
MPH 98.37 97.74

My last run, even though it wasn't the fastest, was my favorite! I can't believe I was hanging with cars rated at 300+hp. I was very impressed today. Although, I was very uncomfotable at the tree. All launches were between 1000-2000rpm.

Very nice times. That 14.33 with a 2.22 60' would be AWEFULLY close to a 13.99 if you got some tires and hooked up. Just bring those 60' times down to 1.9-2.0 and you'll have low 14's if not high 13's

Thanks guys, yeah I'm pretty psyched about the times. And Stang Crazy you're right, if I can get my 60's down to the 2.0's I'd be very close to 13's. I still can't believe the car did that well.

I love it. A high mileage, 13 year-old, good 'ol 302 puts down some 14.3's @ 97 mph in hot weather w/2.2 60's and 2.73's to boot!

Nice job, man!

Default Good times

Hey those are good times, especially for the first time to the track. I was glad to see that the last run RT was better. You are leaving on the third yellow aren't you? A good RT and a good launch will let you win against faster cars as I'm sure you already know.

Your car runs just like my buddies

He has 2.73's also, damn near stock and goes 97-98mph.

He swaped to 3.27's and put on some slicks, and ran 99-100mph going 13.8-13.9 all day. Beating some stangs w/ all kinds of boltons.

Are you one of the guys over at acura cl.com or something like that? I perused that board not too long ago....

Lots of posts about stock cl's (not cls's) beating 4.6 stangs.

Also,
Unless you were on a dyno and put each part on separately and then ran... How the heck can you state a cai gives you 10 rwhp? or a set of headers 30 rwhp?
You paid $1000.00 dollars for headers?!

You got me curious.... Not a flame....
I'd truly like to see a dyno of this 300 rwhp monster (or is it 260 to make up for the tranny loss?).... email it to me and I'll try to post it for ya....

MidNiteBlu5.0, I have to fix my sig. cuz I'm actually putting on the H-pipe and a set of headers on Saturday, sorry about that! Thanx for the compliments on the times guys, I'm going to practice some more tonight for 13's or to atleast lower my 60's to maybe 2.0-2.1's, gonna experiment with tire pressures and stuff like that. I'll be at Bithlow?/Orlando Speed World Dragway tonight for the T&T, it's only like $10 with no extra charge to run!. I dunno if anyone lives around the area but head up there if you can.

this is another members dyno from a-cl.com but same car same setup (headers intake)...from the several baslines done on this car it seems 23% tranny loss is the norm...

the 260/232 number you see in my sig is the published crank number with 23% loss thats about 205 FWHP then add headers and intake and now stroked short block... i havent seen much of anybody saying a non type S cl could beat a 4.6 99+ GT ..but there are some people that just dont know this car over there and well cam sound stupid at times...a stock cl type S could hang with a 99+ auto vert GT until say 70 mph ...a modified cl-S H/E/I and tires (ours really suck and FWD is enough dissadvantage) CAN hang with a 99+GT manny lightly modded something like K&N and flowmasters we all know there's almost no limit to what can be done to the stang of any year really so ...just gotta choose your battles wisely
