Default VIC vs STANG ??? WHat...

Hey guys, get this. This kid at school claims that his '90 pos crown vic is faster then a mustang. He is always talking about cars, all the time. He is the kind of kid that always has to have the best stuff. Well, when ever he talks cars with kids, he always says his vic has a mustang engine in it. And all the kids go... WOOOWWW and he feels real great. I know its the stock 302, but he has to talk it up into the mustang catagory. What do you think, is it possible it is a mustang engine, what about a police intercepter engine? Could they hang with a stang, mine is a stock '85 GT. The engine runs mint and is pretty quick for what it is, does he have a chance at me?
Thanks for the replies!

I don't know much about an 85 GT. But I really don't think a Crown Vic will take you, unless he has work done to it. If it is a 5.0L, you never know he could have Aluminum heads, intake, etc on it!

A '90 Crown Vic had a lo-po 5.0. They still respond to Mustang mods, even though they were pretty slow stock. If he did an HO conversion and then modded it, he could be making decent power...but it's still a 4000lb car.

And for the record, the P72 (up to 1993) CVs were essentially the same engine and drivetrain as their civilian counterparts. Up until 1992, a carbed 351 was an option on the P72s. After the switch to the new body style and the 4.6L, no other engines were available. The 351 makes more torque and is arguably beefier, but is actually slower to 100 than the 5.0 Vics.

Talking

If he really knew anything about cars, he wouldn't pick on a car with more power and less weight than his car. Race him and send his ***** back to school!

No crap. Hehe. 90 Crown Vic.

His engine is not a Mustang engine from the factory. Different cam, crank, firing order, heads, exhaust, all that. LOL.

He's got between 150-180hp.

5.0 = 150hp@3200rpm with single exhaust
5.0 = 160hp@3400rpm with dual exhaust.
5.8 = 180hp@3600rpm with dual exhaust.

5.0 = 270lb/ft@2000rpm with single exhaust.
5.0 = 280lb/ft@2200rpm with dual exhaust.
5.8 = 285lb/ft@2400rpm with dual exhaust.

Your stock 85GT has way more power, equal to a little less torque and it's 1000lbs lighter. LOL. Not even a race.

210hp@4400rpm
270lb/ft@3200rpm
