Cool Old muscle wants a go!

A buddy of mine w/ a really sweet early 70's Chevelle 454 wants to rumble this coming weekend. The car is awesome looking. Huge engine, gobs and gobs of hp/torque.....but I'm thinking he's way too heavy to hang. What do they run? Am I crazy?

it's never crazy to run someone-well depends where its at. Run him anyways, even if you do get beat at least it was by an American muscle not a ricer.

I ran a W-25 Olds 442 (455 ci) with the LX when it was new. It was bone stock also. He had a rebuilt motor and mild cam. I got him off the line but he caught and passed me in 2nd...

Run em and let us know what happens!

A 71 chevelle ss 454 should weigh around 3800lbs with a TH400. Assuming you weigh around 3200, that's a 600lb advantage, which is around .6 in the 1/4. If you both had the same traction, he would need an additional 60hp to make up the weight difference. It should be close... will depend on what kind of mods, both engine and suspension he has. If it's a built 454, you can forget it.

Go for it man. I beat one of those chevelles without the bottle. It was also sweet looking and no hood on it. It should be a fun race

Ran a buddy of mine in his Studebaker with a modded 440 Olds. I got him off the line just a bit, but he walked me steadily after 2nd gear.

Of course, that is still while breathing through the stock intake track and headers. I've got a 76mm MAF waiting to go on with an aluminum inlet tube. The rest will have to come later. I'm very strapped for cash right now. I think after I finish it out, I can beat him.

MrWesson22, according to AMERICAN MUSCLE, by Randy Leffingwell, A Yenko 1969 Chevelle witch had an iron block 427 weighed 4100. Admittedly, this was an after market job that still ran 12 sec. 1/4's at 118. My only point here is the 4100 lbs. I realize we're talking about a 454 here.

a friend of mine had the a chevelle just like that and it ran 13.6 pretty much stock. So it looks like he has to have a few mods to make up that second u should have on him.

Thumbs up

1mintlx, You're gonna kick his a$$! His big block torque will just melt his tires down. It will spin and fishtail while you put at least 3-4 car lengthes.

I'll i've got to say it's wow, you've got most of the racing types in there, die hard muscle car, late 5.0, and import. That ought to be an interesting match.

Cool

Nitrous Al was right...my buddies Chevelle was doing too much spinning, not enough driving. By the time I banged it into 2nd, I was about 2 cars ahead. I spun a little, but no more than usual. The Chevelle was all over the place in 1st - I was surprised since the thing ways over 4000 lbs. He never gained an inch....I finished at 2 cars ahead. Which leads me to believe it would've been a photo finish had we got off the same time. As for the CRX...........can you say NO SHOW! Well, anyway, my stangs off the road for the next week - it's intake, 30# inj, 190 lb fp and FPR time! Speak to you real soon w/ some new kill stories to honk our horns about.
