They must have gotten that "reliable" information on the SS from a Mr. Johnny Hunkin's. There's a good source for ya!

MM&FF ACTUALLY bought their own SS. And I quote "If you have a Bullit, GT, or even a Cobra, and try to race a SS all your going to see are the taillights." That is not dead on but that is almost exactly what they said. It's in the mag. Don't flame me, it's what the ****** mag. said go read it for yourself.

No chit! I saw that a month or so ago. I got your back 1bad89. If its the truth then so be it.. I know the ls1 is a bad@55 engine, you can't deny it. What they ran, heck I don't know.. I can only go by what they print. I will say this, in the 1/8th a new GT will run with a ls1 after that... the ls1 is gone! I learned this first hand. Its been long past time for FORD to up the ante! Heck, they keep it up and they will lose ALOT of thier loyals.
Vortech is offering a blower for the ls1 now and it kicks it up to 418. The blower for the lt1 is 409. The new GT? 398. I was gonna buy a new mustang in 2003 but if it doesn't get any better I'll be shopping a cheap 94-97 TA and then add a blower.. ------------------ Rick My 89lx(updated 7/20/2001) |

Rick is right, Ive run a few LS1's at the track. Some were modded and ran in the 12's. I beat them to the 660' (9.0/80). After that , they came roaring by me for substantial lengths at 1330' for the modded ones and 2-3 lengths for the stock LS1's.

The Vortech kits for the LS1 add 148+hp, and put it at 470hp, and 462ft lbs. When I take my SS out to the track the GT's/Cobra's are usually dead even with me, until a little before mid track.

Let's not get carried away 1bad89, the figures you're giving are with an aftercooler. The cobra has 464hp BEFORE the aftercooler, but we all know what happens to a cobra on boost..
BTW, does the ls1 or lt1 had forged pistons? |

I don't believe they do. Those figures are without an aftercooler by the way.

Hmmm....I was looking in a mag. and dhigh output, but didn't mention a aftercooler. Think it's a different supercharger? Because I'm looking at the actual add, and it's vortech's and it's totally diff.

Nah man, when I was looking at that originally I was like WTF!! It must have a cooler! Read down and it did.. I think they are just calling that pkg the "High Output" pkg.. nothing wrong with that

Well I think that is some sorry horsepower for $7000, Only 418hp? Come on...I can get 420rwhp with heads and a cam, for 1/3 the cost almost.

I agree wholeheartedly!! That is one of the very reasons we all love the mustang sooo much. We can make it faster so much easier. The #s on the lt1 are very impressive though. $3800 and you have a stock motored lt1 with over 400hp. Sure the ls1 has more ponential, but it cost. You're not gonna be able to up the boost(on the ls1) but so much before you're buying a new motor with 10.5:1 compression. That is why I said a lt1 is very attractive to me.
Don't get me wrong, I love a ford but they better do something by 2003 or.... I think a black 97 T/A vert with a blower (and a few other mods) would look very nice in the driveway next to my fox. |

Well if it's any help to the topic, I ran a 14.0@100.7 my VERY FIRST TIME EVER at ANY track! My '99 Cobra had "R" rated 245's out back and a VERY dirty OEM filter. Going back to the track next week with the 4.30's, k&n, and ram air'd modified air box. The track and weather conditions were baaaaaad and my first race was against a '98+ Camaro(LS1) and he ran a 13.9@10x?

Just adding flames to the fire...
k. If my STOCK 2000 GT runs 13.66 I have not problems believing a 01 Cobra can run 13.5. In fact if Car & Driver rate the Cobra at that speed, I think it would be easy to do better. They are the ones that rate a 99GT at 14.7 (WTF!!!).
(BTW, ...it's been a while just thought I would say hi! )

The 1992 350 Z28's had 9.75:1 compression, and starting in 1993, even the LT-1 had 10.5:1 compression.
