Tonight I was hanging out at this girls house. A few people were over, and I hear the doorbell ring. Out of nowhere, this guy I havent seen in 2 years just showed up cause I guess he knew this girl too. Well, we got to talking and it turns out he just got a 99 Corvette Hardtop with an Automatic. I asked if we could go for a ride and he said yes, so we ditched the girl

and got into the vette. It's been at least since 98 that I'd been in ANY car with an LS1, and I must say, I really had forgotten what 350 horses feels like. Made me realize just how far I'm still away from that kind of performance in my GT. Thing handles like a dream, stops on a dime, and accelerates like crazy. You really feel like you're in a Badass ride. I told him what I'd already done to the GT, and that I had Gears, MAF, T.B, and chip about to be installed, but he didnt seem to be too concerned that my GT may threaten his ride. Do you think when we run, and it's inevitablaley going to happen, that I will be even able to hang with him with my upcoming mods put in. His car is bone stock down to the filter, and he has no plans to mod his engine: he just wants rims, soundsystem, etc. The people I was with were basically worshipping the Vette, and paid NO attention to my stang. It would be awesome to have them follow us out, and then watch as I show it my taillights...Is it just a pipedream?BTW, I also have upper and lower control arms on the way.

the key to that race is going to be the first 60'. if you get him with the holeshot, you will win, but it will be a close race. don't go froma roll, you will give him the race if you do. only race him after the new mods. you will need the extra 25 or so hp. good luck, let uis know what happens.

p.s. are the nittos on the cobra drag radials? if so, throw them on the GT for this race.

no, it wont be even close. the vette will win, hands down. auto vettes dont spin a ton, and a stock auto GT can't get out of the hole to save it's life. drag radials probably wont be needed unless you spray it or get a better converter and a gear. once again, this is why vettes cost 45,000 dollars

I raced a new auto vette from a light and beat him to 60 and merged ahead of him, but I have a 5-speed and launched pretty hard with 315s in the back. He started to pull like crazy at the top of his first gear, but it was too late for him. With an auto you're going to need some serious hookup or horsepower comaparable to his...

I would LOVE to be able to beat LS1 vettes, but I guess I'll just settle for the LT1 versions. To answer Mean81GT: No, the nittos on the snake aren't drag radial, just the extreme 555's for handling. By summer, the GT will have: X-pipe, Mufflers, pulleys, 80mm MAf, 70mm Throttle body, 4.10 gears, chip, UCAs, LCA's, drag radials, and as much weight removed as possible: backseat, Battery, (hopefully a tubular K-member/coilover conversion. I don't really need to BEAT vettes, but it would still be cool to put some fear in em. With those mods, if I can't... I'm selling the GT and putting a damn blower on the cobra!!! Take it easy everyone. |

if its a LS1-its gonna show you his nicely waxed rear end man...I don't know where or what these others are running to say they "pulled" a vette..z..whatever...these cars are nice...and fast.my friend has a 98z and with a 75 shot new convertor and DR ran 11.9s....and they launch well on the street-you rode in it,you should know....late model A-4 equipped GMs are a handful..

Yeah-pre LS1 vehicle can be had with slight mods....and good driving...my problem is that when I raced them sans the mods I have now-I always got sucked into THEIR race which means their optimum torque band and shift points...lol

BUT-you have to give credit where credit is due..GM has one awesome motor in that LS1...whew! My aforementioned friend is now running a Z with these mods..Cold Air ,different Torque convertor,Borla, gears and with a 75 jetting went 11.9 and with 100 jet went 11.5 with a crummy 60 ft...DRs and all leather-wow...I love my C Pony but like Jim Campisano of MM&FF's Thunder Road Dec 2001 issue said,"If the 4.6 is such a high techwonder, this shouldn't be the least biyt difficult.Hell,Chevy sells a straight 6 cylindr that makes 270hp." Pick your battles wisely when chasing GM's late models... |

You should have gotten a 5spd, then just get a 125shot w/ gears and tires, and destroy vettes all day.

6T9PONY The LT4 was the Corvette Grand Sport engine. It was placed into the C4 Vette. It was more aggressive than an LT1.

I got beat by an LT1 Vette in AZ once. I usually mop them up. I could get into excuses all day, but I still got beat. |

The only vette I've had a chance to race was a Z06.... needless to say there wasn't much of a race.

He blew me off the line, hit the brakes and let me get beside him, and blew my doors off again. Granted I expected to get beat... but not that bad. |
