You might be able to beat an LT1 car but not an LS1!

cilvrwing 01-13-2002 10:50 PM

o yea it is an 1988 gt with a 5.0 ho engine with 79k miles on it

With What you Have done to your car I wouls Say a High 13 Could be done, next you need gears and heads or get a Bit of Boost, NO2. A Comaro SS if you get a good Start He most likey wont make you Look to bad But will beat you. But if he is a Crapy drive Adn you are good you may win Driver has alot to do with and car like a up to a 1 Sec. And Some times more

you should be able to manhandle most 3rd gen camaros and maybe lt1s just depends...i know you could eat me alive lol...how much you pay for the 88gt? thats what im looking for

John 01-15-2002 02:15 PM

My buddy has an lt1 and runs 8.4's in the 1/8. Look at my sig and I run 8.85 consistantly. I believe he also has auto tranny. Better stick w/running stangs ;) . John

with the higher output (235 vrs 225&215) you should be able to hang with the LT1s that are stock-heck when my 93LX was stock save for gears and exhaust I handled 98s up until 4th gear or so..

I can't remember if you had an auto or stick but that will be the diff...I also have a 88LX and its a auto but I tell you what-at 37mph drop it in low-wow-it just screams and pulls hard...

thats another point-don't get sucked into THEIR race and THEIR shift points-you'll get killed-make em come to you and race at your best points, especially on the street-there is no right or wrong-just hammer time...you win -you win...

good luck from 30 years of street racing experience

I beat a integra

I was crusin 4th gear when I notice a integra pulling off another street droped the 87 mustang gt into second and ripped past him at about 100. I slowed back down and waited for him to pull up to me by then I was back in 5th gear crusin. Looked over at the car and it was gutted, had two racing seats and body kit, by the sound of the motor I kew it was no stock motor, not sure of how fast my car was since I only had it for two days I decided to race him. He reved his motor droped it to second and heard his turbo kick in, I put my car in second and poped the clutch at 4500 rpms tires broke loose. looked over caught a glimpse of his shift, rode my car out to 6500 started pulling away from him shifted into third and got about two car lengths away. Well i finally let off of the gas at 90. we ended up at a red light side by side and I started talking to him. I asked him what he had under the hood he said turbo(8psi), cold air intake, headers and much more. But I think u should almost be able to keep up with a 00 tranz am. If you do just a couple of mods my car is all stockk and I pretty much smoked the integra.

Sorry man I'm confused

Is your car stock or Modded? No Stock 5.0L engine that I am aware of can rev to 6500 RPM and still pull worth anything. My stock 5.0 dies just after 5000 RPM. So I'm guessing you've got some pretty good engine work done? What year is your car, an 87 GT? What has all be done to it?

6500 RPMs on the factory Tach!?

6500 RPMs on the factory tach is more like 5500 RPMs. When I dyno'd my car the factory tach was almost a full 1,000 RPMs off in the upper-RPMs.

Really that much? That would mean I shift at 4000 RPM or maybe 4200 (assuming the error as a percentage)?

I don't know. I guess a dyno don't lie none, but I have a hard time believing that.

Stang Runner 01-17-2002 12:33 PM

M would shift at about 6500rpm with the stock tach Now I have a good tach and 6500 on the stock is about a 5600 or so in realy life. Stock Can be way off I can get the stock Tach to over 7K with the Heads I have know But it is only about 6200 in realality.

I would guess the error is a percentage, you're probably shifting closer to 4200 RPMs. When my car was at an idle the Stock tach and the Dyno were within a couple of hundred RPMs.

It sucks that the stock tachs are so far off and it's hard to get used to shifting well into the red, but at least I know what the motor is actually doing. A good aftermarket Tach would be all one needs to accurately monitor the motor, but I always spend the money on something else. Why in the hell are the Tachs in the Mustang so far off? Is it so the idiots that want to shift their cars at 7k can go out and think that's what they are doing?

Jeb_Bush_2000 01-17-2002 02:11 PM

I think it's because you're not supposed to rev a stock 302 that high. :D

Unit 5302 01-18-2002 12:52 AM

I've found the factory tach to be pretty accurate, to near 6000rpms where it just goes insane. LOL. The fuel cutoff on the stock HO engines is 6250, so nobody's going beyond that on a stock system.

C Pony Go 01-18-2002 12:58 AM

Down low my factory was off from my Autometer 350 and up high -well,I just went by the little yellow light set for 5800..too busy to compare...

Which is why I am confused, how can you shift at 6500 RPM after the fuel is shut off, so the car must not be stock, but I think the guy said it was a stock 87 GT.

SO what is the true story: a modded car or a fake story?

BowTie Eater 5 Liter 01-18-2002 11:16 PM

6250 is the fuel cut off, but it is in the computer, not activated by the tachometer rpm's.

i was doing a burnout one day, and my factory tach red 7000rpm's, but it was prboably like 6000-6200 because the fuel shutoff did not come on.
