Default What do you guys think of the SRT4 Neon? 102traps!

What do you guys think? Automobile magazine got a 14.2 @ 102mph, SCC mag got 14.1 @99 mph, Road and Track got 14.2 also! They got a 5.6 sec 0-60 too.
Its rated at 215hp and 245 lbs of tq but it put down 223 hp and 250 lbs of tq to the WHEELS. Thats well over 250 hp and 280 lbs of tq at the motor.
I work parts for a Dodge dealer and Im thinking about getting one. I will get it for 25 bucks over dealer cost and get all the performance crap like an LSD, boost controller/chip, for dealer cost. I think with drag radials and a boost controller this will hit some deep 13 second times and still keep that 7 year warranty. And dump on WRX's

That would be totaly pointless This thing is strictly a commuter car, its very comfortable with a nice stereo, its even an auto so I can eat a burrito while I drive

I cant wait for this SRT to arrive though, it just sounds awesome to me. The interior is just plain gorgeous too. I was considering buying a WRX a little while ago but not now...the SRT is 5 grand cheaper and defintitely faster...it just doesnt have that wicked all wheel drive launch.

Sounds pretty cool, what are the details? I havn't heard a thing about em. 102mph is good for some 13's w/ a tire!

If you get it we'll have to race turbo 4's!

turn up boost and keep warranty???

good luck with that.......

when i had my chrysler, they were reluctant to do the factory recalls, much less cover expenses that they aren't required to by law by honoring a warranty that is technically voided

Dude, it's a Dodge. j/k

Sounds like a cool little car. Also sounds like the 'test' vehicle was on 'roids. But who really knows. 100 mph traps are definitely in the 13 zone.

Have fun with it if you get one.

If its the same motor as the new turbo PT losers those times are BOGUS !!! Im a Chrysler Jeep tech and I just did a PDI on a new turbo PT. It was slowwwwwww. We havent gotten a turbo NEON in yet. When we do I will let you know if it is really that fast. It has got to be a different motor than the turbo pt's to be as fast as they are saying.

Except for the fact that the Neon probably weighs alot less that the PT.

It sounds like a fun little car but i dont know if those hp numbers are correct. Could be though. Only problem is it is butt ugly IMO

DAMN !! I just did some research about the turbo NEON. It is the same motor from the turbo PT but the NEON weighs 2600 pounds and the PT weighs 3200 pounds. I didnt think it would be that much of a weight differance. I guess it might actually be possible for the NEON to get 100 MPH trap speeds.

i think its funny that all the import boys are gonna be getting smoke by a domestic 4 banger...but even though this car is domestic im sure some will still consider it rice...i think it would be pretty cool if dodge brought back the avenger in rwd with a sports car version of the hemi they are putting in there new trucks...i think that would be pretty quik

Don't be so quick to believe everything you read....if you guys read the articles, you will see that the car is NOT what is going to be produced. This is a pre-production model and the production car WILL NOT have that power from the factory. It might be easy to reach that power level, but the actual production car will have a lot closer to the numbers that Dodge released...215hp crank and 245 torque crank.

Actualy the SRT weighs 2950lbs and does use the same motor as the PT but with different cpu/boost settings. The cpu on the model that all four mags tested is within 5% of completion so it will defintiely put up very close to the same numbers the mags got.
Factoy warranty??? Mopar is offering a stage 1-2&3 turbo upgrade kit for this car that should keep your warranty as long as its installed at a dealer. Sold through me at the Dodge parts counter. And I dont care about my warranty....I work for Dodge so they will fix anything I want. Its all up to the dealer to fix your warranty claim or not.
Sky, whats that car of yours run? Seems nasty!

you got to be kidding me? i will take the WRX over the PeeOn anyday!! you have all wheel drive and its turbo works really well. i have seen them pesonally hit mid 13's. Chrysler sucks. it might be nice to look at or cute little cars, but that fact is they ARE the most repaired vehciles out there. JUNK JUNK JUNK! i have done 2.4 head gaskets and swapped motors out of them and not because of lack of maintenence either. Now they want to put a turbo on it. i have seen those motors being really fast, but longevity takes a schit down the tubes. only thing chrysler made that was good was the hemi. you take the 2.4 and put 100k of "turbo" miles on it and you will see who last longer, the WRX or the PeeOn. WRX will. i would spend 5k more for the WRX.

Actualy FORD makes the most repaired and recalled vehicles. The SRT's 2.4 is NOT the same engine in the freakin minivan for gods sake. This engine has done well in Mexico for a few years now and the SRT's has a much stronger crank, new stronger pistons, and stronger rods.
Yeah, the WRX is an awesome car...I almost bought one. But they're good for mid 14's with really shitty MPH's stock. Thier awd lauch is responsible for that. A lot slower than you would think from a roll. Of course they respond VERY well to exhaust mods and a Boost controller but the SRT will too.

Personally, I think the neon is butt ugly, but man, for that price to get that kind of performance is just incredible. I also read in the article that it doesn't have any mufflers and that it will definitely make it to production without them. Ford better get off their *** and start pumping up the focus.

Im still a HUGE Ford fan..but the SVT focus suck ***! I almost bought a SC'd 99 GT a few months ago...I'll always love Mustangs....hell most of my friends drive mustangs. I just think this will be something new and different. Besides EVERY stupid ricer is going to want to race this car after reading what its capable of in thier own mags...hell even GT's are going to be a good run for this car. Not many new GT's are trapping 102. Some...but not most.

They are ugly

Quality. Chrysler came out with the 2.2 Turbo Chargers back in te 80's, and while they were quite peppy, they sucked for reliability! My buddy did like 3 head gaskets in one year!

It will be fast for a 4 banger, and I'm sure with a Tubo already on there it will be easy to crank the boost, but I don't think the car will take it.

There is definately a performance war going on right now, and it is only making our mustangs faster
