Default What's with these guys?

It almost never seems to fail that whenever a Grand Prix or Grand Am comes across my '88GT they want to race!
What the hell?? What's with these guys? They act like those cars actually are in the same league as a 5.0 mustang!!
Actually, I'm getting pretty sick and tired of it! How many of them do I have to blow off the road before they get the hint?
Now granted, my GT is bone stock but those Pontiac V-6's are no match for any v-8 powered mustang.
If I thought for 1 second that those cars were fast, there would be one in my garage but instead I have two GT mustangs in there!!

The Grand Prix GTP's arent too shabby. The supercharged ones that is. i dont think there anywhere near as fast as a 5.0 but i dunno for sure.

I've noticed a lot of people think they can race my car too. It goes to poeple equating performance with Mustang. Don't know what the Ponitac folks are smoking, but if I hit that stuff, I'd be racing Vipers.

Default Performance Equation

Deuce,

You are right on the money in my opinion. Mustang = performance. Somehow, our cars have become the benchmark for street performance, if you are slower then hey, you only have a small engine and need to do work. I remember back in High School how everyone with a 4 cyl mini-truck (the hot thing back then) would drone on and on with stories of how they raced and beat a 5.0. It wasn't until I rode in an 87 drop that I realized that those stories were total bunk.

This thread has reminded me just how many times I've ignored small engine domestic rice. At this point I'd consider pulling off my GT badges if I thought that it would make a difference. However, all I can do is hope that the less than 8 cylinder whatever doesn't rear-end a mini-van trying to race me as I drive to the grocery store.

Ron

I agree Midniteblu , I guess there is no better way to judge you own car's performance than to race or try to race a car that signifies performance, in this case, a mustang 5.0
Maybe that's what these guys are thinking...I don't know
Maybe they're just trying to figure out where there car stands in terms of performance or how much work there engines still need.
I guess it's the same thing if I was to slap a supercharger or NOS on my stang and expect to run with John Force, the 11 time top fuel funny car champ.(LOL)

These weren't the GTP cars, they were just the GT's.
I have my 351w '82GT that will handle the GTP's.

Blie. My Mustang runs low 13's. The GTP ran 14.74@94. Pretty fast for a family car.
