Default Results of my race with M3

Well, I'm selling my GT.

That's right, I lost.

I am SO mad right now.

This is how it went down:

As I'm waiting for the arrival, I take out my backseat and spare tire just to be safe. The guy with the M3 comes over along with the guy I know, Paul, who set up the race. I asked the guy if he really wanted to run me, cause I was sure I'd win. He seemed real eager, so we headed out to the spot, followed by 8 other guys in a couple cars who all wanted to see me take down this import with my domestic muscle.
I said we'd go from a roll, because with my new 4.10's I get NO traction till like 25mph. He agrees, and we line em up, and start off easy till 25mph. I let him get the jump and he pulls an easy 2 cars on me while I spin to 35mph. Finally my tires catch with a loud chirp, and I start to reel him in, quick . I pull to his back bumper and that's where it stays until I let off at 110. I couldn't pull any further. When the M3 and I turn around and go back to the lot to wait for the caravan of guys, I was steaming mad. I thought, "He HAS to have something in there!"
All the guys were shocked I lost, and the M3 guy was real cool about it. I asked him how big a shot he was spraying and he said, "Man, it's BONE stock." I checked under his hood and in his trunk and he wasn't lying. WTF?? Motortrend got a 14.2 out of their M3. I went 14.4 before gears, chip, C&L maf, and Throttle body. Is it possible I only gained a tenth from all that? Anyway, I'm seriously done with power mods to my car. I might get a dynotune just to check and see what could be wrong, but I'm not putting any more money into the engine. I've spent $3K in mods, and the car is still close to where it was stock. I shouldve just put on a blower in the first place.

BTW, the M3 raced a 97 Z28 automatic with cold air, Borla exhaust and chip, next and beat that car by the same margin as me. I raced that Z28 when he was stock and I had mufflers and K&N and I beat it by 1 carlength.

I'm interested to hear what you all think?

I'm not all that shocked. Apparently, he knows how to drive. You were reeling him in (gears helping out) but you burned from the start. You're not going to see any results of performance gains while burning your tires.

I think the guy just really knows how to drive. His car probably pulls better higher up so you should have beat him when you started if you didint spin so much. Dont sell your car. Gte some sticky tires.

1) Don't sell the GT.

2) Get some drag radials.

3) Race him from a stand still. (you will have to learn how to launch the car some time )

4) With the 4.10's, I wouldn't try to race him to 110+ mph. Keep it to your standard qt. mile, which for you would be around 99-101.

5) Let him spend $45K on an M3 while you put another $3K in a nice little blower - then you will destroy him. You have to remember that all of the mods you have done thus far will enhance the blower's effect on your car - except maybe for those 4.10's - ouch!

Good to hear that he was cool about the race. Don't get so down on you/your car. The M3's are are pretty quick. You're porbably running low 14's right now. I didn't read your previous posts, but I hope you weren't thinking that you were going to "kill" him - as stated above, a good driver can get one of those M3's into the 13.9's.

I ran even with a Z-3 M version (not he latest , but the 240 hp) on the street from a slow roll. That's when my car ran a best of 13.95 /100 at the track. That BMW had that same inline 6 but was some lighter than the sedan version. Wouldn't suprise me if the M3 could run 13.9xx in the 1/4.

You win some and you lose some man, its cool. Its all about just having some fun anyways.

Keep the car and still have fun with it. I would not be mad at the car, but myself b/c i can't launch it from a stand still. Go out and pratice, practice, practice. Get some DRs and maybe a converter down the road and enjoy the GT. They are great man. Look how much power your putting down with those simple mods and your frying the tires to 35 w/ an auto from a roll! Come on man, thats great. Plus you caught him quick and you let him have the jump. Your car did great! Make some friends with guy and run him some more.

Great Story!

Default THE ""M3""

HEY DUDE ,
i agree with TJR.....better tires should do the trick!!!!
if u dont wanna spend the extra cash on tires then drop the tire pressure on ur tires to about 25 27 psi.
then warm them up a bit , spin them but dont smoke them !!!!
keep them spinnin at about 27 3200RPM , then stop .....and back into the starting burn mark.....its nice and sticky in there
that will allow u to launch at a higher RPM with minimum tire spin, then watch ur speed , dont FLOOR the GAS feather it till abotu 30 35 MPH then floor it and get a clean power shift!!!!
Ill bet u he wont beat u !!!!! BUT really forget about the rollin start, the M3 will benefit from it more then u , so y set ur self up..

U didnt mention any suspention mods??? do u have any???
if not look into South Side Lift bars, or other traction bars for about 250$ with those gears concentrate on gettin the power to the ground and hookin up , instead of buyin a blower.

Just for inspiration , i beat a M3 a 98.....with my 88 stang
all i had was pullies, broken exhaust from h pipe down on the right hand side and a holy glass pipe muffler(( remember those)) on the left...lol
a broken and loose upper controll arm on the left....a bold tire on the right rear a leaking manifold gasket, a short belt, 2.73 stock rear, and a transmission that was on its way to a grave yard lolololololol...hahahahha.....what can i say i was a college student..... ...lololol

when we took off the red , he had the whole shot,....with my rear, i could have floord it from the begining not like u , so i was even with him by the time i powershifted .......
and i shifted b 4 he didand right there i got him by half a car more or less)) and thats where we stayed.....
good luck race again!!!

Thanks for the posts, guys. I don't really think I'm gonna sell it, I was just being a drama queen. I'm mad because when I got the gears put in, I told myself, "No racing till you get control arms and DR's!" But, I couldn't resist and yesterday I paid for my lack of self control. It couldve been worse, I couldve lost to a Z28! M3's are respectable cars, I guess I just had too much confidence in my GT.

If you're not into drag radials then definitely get rear upper and lower control arms for the added mods on your car, like you said. Before I got mine, my launches were always hit or miss but that is all gone. I cannot believe how good my car launches and turns with them now. I can virtually go full gas now in first and it just moves. I get some mild wheel spin but it is always hooking and pulling forward hard.. Make this your next mod and go ask for a rematch from a stop next time

Thumbs up

Get a pair of Drag radials and your rear suspension sorted out and ask for a rematch.

man i've wanted to sell my car before, but not because of losing, just cause it was being a little surging ho.

get some drag radials, some seat time wouldnt hurt either. go out to a road no one ever drives on and just practice launching. it really helps.

Man that is the pressure I have in my tires for every day driving, it says on the door to have 25psi.
You do have a point that bringing the pressure down helps a bit (I normally drop it to 18-20).

"StoplightWarrior" I feel your pain brotha, I would feel the same way after puting $3k in the car.
Every one here is saying to get some drag radials which I am sure it will help but remember what you said but don't expect miracles, remember you said
. I pull to his back bumper and that's where it stays until I let off at 110. I couldn't .
I said with better tire you could habe being right beside his car (which is pretty good) but I steel don't think that you would have bitten him under the same circumstances.

I say sell it.

Get a 5speed 99+ GT.

Your car was last running 14.4's or 14.6's I dont remember, but it hasn't had great MPH from the start.

I dont mean to be negative, but this is just my opinion.

Also I really dont see anywhere close to 3k in mods.
hows that possible.

If this was a 01 M3 you did very well the new M3 can run 13.2@110! From what I have seen they seem to run about the same as a C5, so don't get so down on yourself. Granted the auto dosn't help but still get some Dr's and don't give him the jump and it could be real interesting.

For what its worth:

I happen to run a M3 (about 98) the other night from a 70 roll and I put about 4 cars on him by about 120 or so, I just droped it to 4th and hit it. He stuck beside me for a split second then the power just came on and I drove away.

you gave him the move and when you hit it you spun?? thats the diff right there. motortrend got a 14.2 out of it and you ran 14.4. figure the gears and other mods giving you how much??
they probly gave you more than a tenth but with him moving first and you spinning, that was all he needed to hold you off.
