Default LS1.com

I went to the LS1 site after seeing someone refer to it here. I spent a couple of hours reading threads. I would have to come to the conclusion , of well, they're kind of clueless. A majority of them anyway. I have no doubt that that LS1 is fast. Given the fact that I think they have a 350 ci engine. The mustang gives up
48 cubic inches to it. All things being equal, I would say put a 351W in the stang to even the motor gap. It would be a different ball game. The horsepower to weight ratio alone would be a major factor.

The '91 LX I bought 2 mos ago is an impressive little car. This coming from someone who has pure mopar running through his veins. I dont know what it all has in it, but seems to have all that the guy says it does. Besides the black interior was excellent. In all, it has got my little gears turning again.

I'm getting the itch for a street thumping mopar again. Something to suck those LS1's through the intake and **** them out the tailpipe. Maybe when I get back to Washington I'll go on the hunt for a challenger and drop a little 440 action in it and go LS1 hunting. I do believe the LX can do it, but to me nothing beats the earthshaking, firebreathing, ripsnorting power of a big block mopar.

Cheers to all the mustang guys and gals

Man, I hear ya..nothing like the feel and sound of a big block!! My dad has big block running through his veins.lol He has a 67 Chevelle with a 515ci that runs 5.80's @ 120mph in the 1/8th!! That is on all MOTOR!!! He has ate plenty of LS1's!!. But I love my mustangs. I wouldn't sell mine for anything!! Even though it looks like a burnt piece of chicken now lol. But i'll get it fixed.

The belvedre bodies are nice GT. I guess I'm biased or something against nitros and superchargers. I believe if you cant do it with the motor you got. Get bigger one. Thought about dropping a 351W in the LX, but I want to be able to hope in the thing and go acroos counrty. So I'll keep the 302 in it.

Mopar Performance is coming out with some exciting stuff. When it comes to mopars it's a complusive disorder for me. lol

Crazyhorse, I had a bad nitrous backfire at the track. It pretty much burnt the whole front of the car, and hurt my motor pretty bad. So, I sent it back to Billy, and it should be done in two weeks!! With a little more nitrous, and more HP!! hehe Billy told me when he gets done with it, i'm gonna be spraying enough nitrous to spray everybody's car in a parking lot.lol We'll see i guess.

The 351 is just a stroker 302 from the factory. Different deck height, beefier bottom end. Otherwise, they are much the same engine. Quite frankly, you could just do a couple mods to the 302 to make a bunch more power all motor.

I don't personally see a good reason to do a 351W swap unless you're looking to put down between 500-600hp. Otherwise you could get a stronger 302 block, or stay with the stock 302 block. The difference in power output between the 351 and 302 might equate to 40hp on an equally modded setup, 20hp on a stock setup. Not worth the extra hassle to me.

Thats a good thing to know thank ya sir. Guess i was equating as a 318 and 360 comparison, which there's a big diff between the two

i want the new test 4.6

from a FR 500 review

Because performance freaks focus their attention more on the "go" than on the "show" aspect of a car, the FR500's real beauty is underhood. There you'll find a Cobra 4.6-liter 4V all-aluminum block whose displacement has been increased to 5.0 liters by the use of new "spray bore" technology.

On engines like the 4.6 that cannot be bored out because of the limited casting thickness of the cylinder walls, displacement is increased by removing the steel cylinder sleeves from the cast aluminum block and spraying the bores with a ceramic-like coating that serves as hardened cylinder walls. While Ford has yet to employ this new technology in production, its use could help squeeze more power from engines without retooling them.

New, high-flow four-valve heads with more radical cam geometry are added, along with an all-new variable geometry magnesium intake manifold, dual 80mm mass-air sensors, dual 70mm throttle bodies, and stainless-steel tubular headers. This massaged Cobra engine makes a reported 415 horsepower at 6,800 rpm (redline is 7,000 revs), and 365 foot-pounds of torque at 4200 rpm. But wait—there's more.
