Default Will stock Slobra outrun stock F-Body?

You guys have an interesting board here. I was just visiting and thought I might joust a little.

I read a few of the threads here and am somewhat surprised that you guys seem to think LS1 F-body's are slower than Mustangs. Granted the Cobra R is exceptional.

I'm also glad that some of the Mustang owners out there will actually race. I've got about 1800 miles on my Hawk, tried challenging nearly every Mustang GT I see and am ignored. Last week an Audi A4 station wagon wanted to race me. WTF's up with Mustang driver's in general (present company excluded, since those that visist this board obviously race) don't race?

There is always 2 sides to every story on the other guy not wanting to race. The entire scenerio has to be right. Maybe the other guy saw something that looked like a cop car. Maybe there was traffic. Maybe his girlfriend/boyfriend(can't believe that) would string them up for racing. Maybe the area is heavily patrolled. Who knows. Mustang people will generally race anything from what I've seen.

Anyway, I don't know where you got the idea we think the LS1 is slower than a stock GT or Cobra. I would say they are pretty on par stock for stock with the Cobra, maybe a tenth or two quicker, and as for the GT, it's about 3-4 tenths lagging. Those are with everything else being equal, which they almost never are. A stock Cobra or GT can certainly waste an LS1, if the LS1 owner can't drive and the Mustang owner can.

Obviously the LS1 is faster, its got more HP and torque.

Where do you get 345hp stock?

Thats funny, I think the same thing of MOST of you F-Body Guys. Most turn down races, even when verbally provoked, or they talked all big.

The Cobra R is not the only Mustang that can whoop up on a LS-1 F-Body. A good driver in a 2001 Cobra, or a geared 96-98 Cobra can show the Z28's, SS's, Trans Ams, its taillights.

A great driver in a 99+ GT will Surprise the hell out the LS-1 Driver who takes to of a causual approach, or confident approach to a race.

One of the other managers at work bought a 2000 Z28 Auto, and after I got my 2000 GT 5spd, he talked so much trash about how he Kept beating GT's.

Well we raced, I won. A few days later again, we raced again, Again I won.

He got a 98 Cobra, put gears in it (3:73's), we raced several times over the course of time that he owned the car, I beat him everytime.

Now that my GT is no longer stock, he sold the Cobra, and got a 99 Z28 6spd, and wont race me anymore. Guys at work are dying, and willing to pay to see me and him race. He wont do it. Even though he talks all kinds of trash.

I for one am not afraid of the LS-1's, I respect them, but do not fear them.

I got your back Unit, I have never seen people saying that they can't beat the Cobra's.....the new ones are supposed to hang with the WS-6 and SS's though, but that is also what they said about the 99's. Most queries about LS-1 vs. 4.6 is "What do I need to beat them?"

Dang 02Vert 1800 miles and you are racing hard??? Have you heard of break-in? Come to Oklahoma, I'll race you.

My guess is, stock for stock, the F-Body will edge out the new Cobras (Spelled with a "C")
However, it will come down to the driver in the end, like Unit said.

A well driven new cobra coupe will give you a real run for your $$$.

I said all things being equal. In this case I'd have to say Cobra Coupe vs Fbod Drop Top the edge is definately with the Cobra. It would be a solid contest with a killer driver in a GT Coupe.

Good replies...as far as Firehawks and SS having 345 OEM hp Skyman, check this out:
http://slpeng.com/2002firehawk/index.html
The 345 hp is standard on Hawks, optional on SS's if they buy the catback system and lid.

With respect to race conditions, I use a V1 and have had Mustangs in nothing but perfect situations to race (weather, cops, traffic, etc.) without success.

Have a good one!

The reason some people don't race is because...they could be on 6 months probation, and they could've already completed defensive driving, and 48 hours community service, and if they get ANY kind of ticket they will go back to court and be fugged, and maybe even some jail time....

I've heard some of the 02 A4 Firehawks are running around 13.0 all stock, go get some times on your vert. See ya.

There could be a million reasons why the stang owners you are referring to didn't race you. Or it could be....................that they just don't street race period.

Stock for Stock an Fbody has more power and is capable of running faster times then even the cobra. However the 2001 cobra is doing good things, and with average drivers like most of us, they will run neck and neck with Fbodys. and sometimes win. A 2001 SS and 2001 Cobra would be a heck of a race. .2 seconds and a few MPH isnt exactly a world of difference.

The LS1 is a lot faster than the gt. About even with the New Cobras and not even close to me he he he When mine was stock I got sick of being spanked so I put my life savings into her and now guess what? I win a lot

I must have missed the post you are referring to..

I haven't seen anyone say the LS1 is less capable than a GT or Cobra.. Most guys here have respect for the LS1. But a stock Cobra vert can beat an LS1, I did it with my 97 against a 98 camaro on the track. He was alittle anxious. I beat him by about .4-.5. Could his car beat mine? yeah, he had a time slip where he ran a 13.5 earlier in the night, he didn't when I raced him though. Funny thing is he made sure to line up with me and we talked and everything was cool before the race, after the race he wouldn't even look my way.. was mad of something
