Default witnessed something great...it had to do with an svo and a ws6 ta

some of the locals have been doin some street racing here in the county and i went down to pine run last night....thats were they race, and i saw a white svo line up to a ws6 ta and i though it was gonna be a hurtin for ford, boy was i wrong...the svo had bf goodrich drs on the back..and the ta had nitto drs so they both should have had decent traction.anyway after the third flash of the the flash light they were off, the ta got about a car lenght jump off the start but when the svo hit second it was by by TA i mean brutal probably about a 10 to 12 carlenght spankin by the time they let off...the TA was stock other then an exhaust and lid what ever the hell that is im gm iliterate...as for the svo i have no idea...im sure the boost was up there...even with 15-20 psi i wouldnt think it would have made that ta look like a civic dx...anyway just thought yall would like to hear about a 4 banger ford smokin a ws6...

Something's being missed here. Either the T/A has some major problems or the SVO has some serious mods. No way a llight or moderately modded SVO is gonna take an LS1 T/A with light mods that badly.

I just re-read your post. You referred to the T/A as a WS6 but give no info on model year or engine. WS6 T/A's were made many years. The early-mid 90's T/A's were 15-17 sec 1/4 mile machines and 5.0 [s]low equipped T/A's were anemic to say the least. Was it a real WS6 or just some fancy emblems/decals?

The SVO cars are fairly easy to make low 11 cars with. Sure, it takes a little more work that the GN, but I have a magazine full of them. My money is on a fast and werked svo, rather than an early Firehawk.

Agreed for sure. Any car can be made fast. With $ and determination a mid '80 4 cylinder 4 door deisel Chevette with 5 speed could be made fast, just add NAWZZZZZ j/k. Heck, I dropped a built 350 Chevy in a Vega and that moved out pretty well.

I wasn't at slow98's encounter so I'd only be speculating but they didn't make that many SVO Mustangs. The chances he ran the rare one and the rarer one that was hopped up to run 12's are slim at best, but possible.

Honestly, I trust very few people about thier cars and I put little faith in the emblems/graphics that put it in the muscle car catagory. For example, I've seen MANY mis-marked supposed Chevelle SS's. Unless I see it with my own eyes with evidence (video will do too) skepticism prevails, or I judge the person to be of good character with nothing to prove. There are so many phonies out there it disparages the legit guys. One example is that buffoon who's video I posted talking about his GT/R Mustang "2000 special edition" that has a turbo with factory intercooler, custom exhaust, rotary engine with pistons that runs 12's, or was it 11's?. That's the epitome of Bull5hit kings. Talk about lack of credibility.

Yea, I'm in a mood tonight so sorry all, but this stuff's getting to me.

By the way, I really enjoy this board and 99% of the intelligent non-confrontational discussion here. There are several TTA message boards but they don't seem to have the "umph" this board has. Not to mention I'm on hostile ground here to boot. My hat's off to everyone.

Regards,

I think we are looking at the same idea from opposing sides of the coin. Simply put, the SVO mustangs were FUGLY. This leads me to think that a fellow Mustanger would know that's what it was, and not many people would try to fake one.

The rarity IMO, also leads me to think that someone who would search out a 20 turbo mustang would have some sort of weird fetish about making it fast. Kind of like people who run turbo Buicks.

I could be wrong, and it may have been a mismarked 305 bird vs a stock (or even fake) svo. The one thing I do know is there are at least 25 SVO's running around that could take a z06.

edit: I typed this while slow 98 was replying above. Yea, yea, find out what you can abou the svo, I'm starting to think they're pretty neat.

Default by the way

by the way...im pretty sure it was an svo, it had that ugly *** escort lookin front end and that funky lookin spoiler on the back..and it wasnt loud....i do agree there are alot of fakers out there but honestly i think his car was a genuine svo,no way it was stock but im prettty sure it was real..be skeptical if you want, i was before the race was over, honestly i was shocked when i saw the outcome..but i would probably also be shocked if i saw an old buik pulling on a newer ta as well.and i bet there were nearly as many svos produce as ur lovely buik...but who knows from what i saw it looked real but maybe im wrong maybe someone intentionaly built a fake so they could drive somthing ugly around....

Howdy slow98,

If you're referring to my quote I never said anything about the SVO being "lightly" modded. I said "hopped up" which is open to interpretation.

Deuce,

What's wrong with Turbo Buicks? I think we can both agree they kick aŝŝ in the performance arena. I know there's debate regarding their looks, but that's a personal thing, and I'll never take offense to that. I think the GN looks mean as hel|.

In today's world a stock TR is somewhat slow. But it was the fastest American production car in it's decade (except the 1989 Turbo T/A, which is overlooked. The TTA and GNx split 2 1/4 mile runs)

So I'm a V-6 kinda guy, what can I say. Ever had a ride in one? If not I suggest you give a try. The feeling's not even close to a V-8, it's actually quite odd. The feeling of boost is like Heroin.

slow98,

Honestly, there were almost 30,000 Intercooled Turbo Buicks made from 1986-87. I could give exact production #'s but that's not necessary. I don't think there were close to that many 4 cylinder turbo SVO's made, but I could be wrong. Again, I'm not a Ford guy. I'm sure the production figures are available somewhere on the web.

The hood/front end can be fairly easily interchanged, spoilers can be added and the sound lends more credence as to it's power plant.

What I'm curious about is evidence you have other than cosmetic that it was a real SVO. Did you take a peek at the engine? Don't be offended but it's just the cop side in me coming out. I'm not discrediting the car whatsoever. On the contrary, if it is what it is that's one hel| of an accomplishment and it deserves acclaim.

I think they are great looking cars, never meant to say they were ugly or slow. Rather, its a comment on the unusual aspect of the car. Not many people think GN or GNX when they think muscle car. I know I didn't used to. People who have them (or know what they are) are usually passionate about performace and hardly leave them stock. That is where I was drawing comparison for the SVO cars. They aren't a typical mustang, and are a car that would have to be sought out to buy now, similar to the turbo buicks, or TTA's for that matter.

BTW, I haven't had a chance to ride in one. Heck, I think I've only ever seen 3 in my adult life. Wanna drive out here and take me for a spin?

Post ?

have no idea,i never saw the motor you could be right, but even if the hood was popped and there was a turbo 4 banger in there, who says it wasnt from a turbo thunder bird?ford made plenty of those and there are plenty floating around, i just really dont understand why someone would build a fake svo...i mean if it really came down to it the vin number could be pulled, but it just doesnt make much since to me

The Deuce,

This is comparing apples to oranges too. Agreed, the SVO has a 4 cylinder compared to the Firehawk 8 which is a huge difference, but the SVO is turbocharged where the Firehawk is not. This power adder makes up some distance. But you say you'd put $ on the "fast and werked up" SVO vs. the "early" Firehawk. Based on that scenario I would too. But to level the playing field I'd put $ on the early Firehawk if it were "lightly modded" vs. the "fast and werked up" SVO. I say this only because the SVO has the power adder and isn't a plain-jane 4 banger.

Then again I suppose when you're comparing different vehicles of different eras, with different weights, with different mods and different drivers the playing field can never be level. If NASCAR can't find a way to level the field, we certainly can't here.

Regards,

About 50 miles away from me, in austin is a mean svo that roll's around, he came to the track and the guy actually had welds, skinnies, and lifted the wheels a little on launch, running 12.50's 10? he said his favorite question is "is that a 5.0" heh, it's got some more boost on tap too.

Whoa. I'm willing to give anyone a spin in a Turbo Buick powered car, but California is a bit of a stretch to do it. Talk about mileage. If you ever get out to the mid-west look me up and we'll take care of that!

Maybe some of you guys should read the MM&FF 4-banger shootout from a couple of months ago. SVOs were fairly fast for the day, and with 16-18 years of them being around, people have learned to make them fast with mods. I am lucky enough to own the rarest SVO color, Dark sage green. There were around 9800 SVOs made and only 47 green ones. I have some mods planned and it will shock quite a few people when they see what just smoked them. There is a local shop where my work is done that has an SVO that will run sub 11 1/4's at 130+ mph. Thats pretty impressive considering he has many more mods planned. By the way, he drives it quite a bit to and from work and gets 22-24 mpg. I get 26 mpg with mine. You also have to remember, these cars were made for road racing, not stoplight to stoplight. I would be willing to challenge anybody in almost anything on a curvy track somewhere. They really are amazing cars and I'm glad to see so many people showing interest in them in this thread.. I wish more people would interested in them so more would out on the road.

Post got a few details

it turns out the guy with the svo actually rents a house from my father,i didnt talk to the fella but he has told my father some of the things he has done,1 thing that kind of got me was he said it had a cam out of a ranger pick up that had been reground...i dont really know what thats all about i cant see reason in putting a pickup truck cam in a turbo motor???got me, also he has a worked head from powerheads i think he said, same company that reworks the 5 liter e7s and 4.6 heads so on and so forth, booste has been bumped up dont know how much but is still the stock turbo but rebuilt...and he also said it has a stock rebuild and it is indeed a real svo...dont know about tranny or rearend, but on thing that got me was he said it was 5 lug..anybody know if these cars were 5 lug because i thought all fox bodys were 4 lug...? i dunno maybe that helps a little but as far as i know it is a real svo based on my father and one of the people that keeps up his rental property...might give you guys some idea of what goin on under neith the hood which i might add is the on part of the car like appearance wise.....lemme know what u think...i mean come on a ranger cam?? i dunno.... peace
