WS6 -V- GT -V- eclipse
Hey I have 97 Gt convertible with just a K&N. I want to have the fastest car in my school, and my only real competition is a manuel firebird WS6, and a eclipse GSX that looks stock. If I cant beat them now, what mods would you recommend to beat the snot out of them. And even if I cant beat them now atleast I have a better looking car.

Assuming the WS6 is stock and he can drive it will run 13's. You are going to need N20 to beat this guy. THe 97 GT isnt the best year for power and a vert is heavier yet. ZEX has a nice kit. Get the ZEX kit, some pulleys, 3.73 gears and some sticky tires.
The gsx you might be able to hang close to if its stock and you launch like CRAZY. But if hes got the standard mods it should go mid low 14's with a crazy launch. IF money is no object, put a blower on that sucker. For 4-5 G's you'd smoke everything around!
Otherwise do what them other guys said ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |

In that case money is to be considered but I am hollowing out 4 of my cats for sure this weekend, and probably getting some 373, a 70mm TB, and maybe some steeda roller rockers. Any advice concerning the rockers would be helpful cause it is the mod that I am most uncertian about. Any I would not wanna go with Nitro becuase with refills in time I could just afford a SC.

I disagree with 95mustanggt
Just a blower on that car would just get him in the ballpark of the WS-6, and won't smoke anything around. The 96-98's for some wierd reason didn't respond to blowers as well as the 99+. I saw Steeda's, Saleen's and Roush's run mid 13's@103-105 with a Vortech pumping 8-9 lbs. BUT as I always say, just my opinion. ------------------ Dustin 89 Saleen GT Sport,428 rwhp,TFS Street Heat Intake,TFS TW Heads,TFS #2 cam,BD-11A 9 psi,Crane 1.6 rr's,BBK 70mm TB,Pro-M 80mm MAF,MSD 6BTM, FMS 9mm wires,BBK longtubes,BBK Short H-pipe,American Thunder cat back,3.55's 12.3@119 street tires 11.496@121.08slicks |

Yeah, Im with Dustin on this one. Ive seen 96-98 GT's with blowers only putting 280 to the ground. That is less than what an LS1 WS6 would do. Plus, remember the horrible intakes those GT's have. The blower will only bring about a quicker end. By that same token, though, I guess Nitrous would have the same effect on the intake, but at least the car wouldnt be under constant boost.
On another note, I hate Rice, I wouldn't put the Throttle Body in. The 3.73's are good. The rockers are a solid mod but they arent gonna help you beat that Trans Am. You have a great, nice looking car, but you have to realize just how much it's gonna take to have the fastest car around, starting with that platform. You're only beginning with 215hp in a 3550lb car. The WS6, assuming it's an LS1, is running low 13's. You are running MAYBE high 14's. That's a lot of ground to make up. Put 99+ heads and intake on that thing. While it's disassembled, put some stronger internals in. Then, slap the blower on and run 10lbs of boost. Your engine should be pushing 400hp, and then you will be a force to be reckoned with. ------------------ Black 2000 GT Bassani X-pipe, Magnaflow Mufflers, Steeda Pulleys, K&N Filter. Damn, Dustin, I just noticed your time on slicks. 11.4!!! Nice! I knew from your first trap speed in your 12 sec run that you were not reaching your potential. Way to go!

So my best bet so far would be the 373, intake, heads, hollowed cats, and start saving for a kick *** blower. What brand/type has proven to be top end for intake, heads, and gears. I want the best but then again I am 17 and make 8 bucks an hour. Would the 99+ gt's heads and intake fit my 97 becuase I am sure I could salvage some.
Also good news for me. The WS6 is a lease which makes me feel better so I know its stock and not really his. And the guy that owns the GSX doesnt even know what a camshaft is, that kinda shows his driving skill. When I take off on my automatic where is the best shift point to go from 1 to 2. I have played with it a little and it is less than redline but higher 4700 I think. What is technically best from similar stangs. As always thank you. ------------------ 97 Mustang GT Convertible The standard Cheap mods but no pullies [This message has been edited by I hate Rice (edited 08-23-2001).] [This message has been edited by I hate Rice (edited 08-23-2001).] |

Sorry, I guess I should have been a little clearer. I had the SVO Heads and Intake in mind. SVO Heads and Intake change the story a lot. If you disagree with me still, I invite you to race Hammer's 98 GT But on stock heads and intake, you are probably right. ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |

Look. Blower you aren't gonna afford soon.
If you want to beat em get NOS. Sure you gotta refill it, but with a blower, you're gonna be re-filling your gastank more often too. NOS isn't gonna effect your MPG. Skip the rockers, skip the TB. Get 3.73 gears at the least, you should get 4.10's with that heavy vert and auto. Get a shift kit and a converter. Getting that driveline in order is the first thing to do. Sorry but an AUTO 98 Vert is one of the worst combos to start with, but you can make it fast in time. A Gen I 4.6L Auto Vert vs a Manual WS6. Whooo man. You've got your work cut out for you. That WS6 is probably literally 2 full seconds faster than you.
First things first. The AOD-E has got to have some help. It won't take that kind of power in stock form. Get a shift kit, a 2800rpm stall PI Stallion converter, and 4.10's. Get a set of 99+GT heads, and the Bullit intake for your car. A K&N air filter, off road H pipe, and a catback exhaust will help free things up a little too. Add a steeda timing adjuster and bump that timing up. Get a bigger fuel pump to prepare for the power adder. Now, with those mods, you should be able to crack the 13's. Tack on a 100hp shot of N20, and you should have that Firechicken seeing taillights. Basically what you need to do is take your 15.4@90mph stock GT and turn it into a 13.0@104mph beast. That's gonna take a ton of hp, and the AOD will need the work too. |

From expierance, I have learned that when tackling any large undertaking to make small steps and short term goals. The GSX has a K&N, a blower running 15psi, and a new catback. Though it sounds like it is being run by rubberband power. Would 4.10s and pullies work.
