Z28 vs. "GT"

Well I was driving around town the other night with one of my friends in his z28 and we come across this 2000 GT. Well he is around 40yrs old and agrees to run'em..So we go out and race and my buddy misses a gear and looses by like 1/2 a car length. Well they end up racing again and unfortunatly the 98' Z28 did put the "GT" to sleep. So we pulled over and talked to the guy for awhile and I asked to see his motor. So he pops his hood and there sets the Cobra. So I said whats up with this. So he goes and pops his trunk and there are the Cobra emblems off of the side. He bought GT emblems and is in the process of putting them on. So his is goin to imposter a GT for some racing. Its a Forest or a little lighter green color. Well I was just wondering how much HP a stock 00' Cobra produces.

The only Cobra produced in '00 was the Cobra R which was rated at 385 HP.

Not sure what the '99 Cobra's ended up with after the fix. The '01 Cobra advertises 320 HP

Well i guess that he is lying that his car is a 00' cause I know it isnt no cobra R and that Z28 wouldnt have beaten it..Wonder what year it is?? Prob a 99 then..

sedanman 03-21-2001 02:42 PM

Smokedawg you go to IUPUI, I also go there, hell I am there (here) right know! What does your car look like I am sure I have seen it in the parking lot. I am sure we can meet up sometime soon.

Smokedawg 03-21-2001 02:49 PM

My car can be seen from my userrides section..look under my username...but i havent driven it since October because she underwent her 347 surgery..She will prob start being driven 1 every other week here starting next week. I drive my ol' pickup truck now back and forth.

Smokedawg 03-21-2001 02:51 PM

sedanman-

what does your mustang look like..i have spotted a few 5.0's out here...where do you usually park at??

sedanman 03-21-2001 02:55 PM

I usually park it across from the ET building in the lot behind the one being tore up, it is a tame looking red coupe. Today it is parked in the middle of nowhere. Send me a email when you drive your car in and we can meet up my email is sedanman91@aol.com

Smokedawg 03-21-2001 02:56 PM

Thats were I parked last semester..but with that parking garage being built now I park across from SL or by Mary Cable building..

sedanman 03-21-2001 03:02 PM

Sharp looking car! So you have not had it to the track since the new motor. Have you ever been to Muncie, or IRP. I sometimes park behind the Mary Cable building too. I would like to take a look at your car and see how that 347 runs, I am looking at getting either a 347 or a 331 stroker motor by next winter.

Ripper 03-21-2001 05:04 PM

Why would anyone want to pose their cobra as a GT? In addition, even if you remove the emblems, the front hood and air dam are different than the GTs as well as having the Cobra name on the rear bumper.

That sounds like sacrilege to me. It's one thing to put Cobra emblems on a GT (a bad thing that is), but to put GT emblems on a Cobra is pretty underhanded. If he's worried about losing races because he can't drive the thing faster than your average GT owner, he should buy some parts...

EZRIDN 03-21-2001 10:15 PM

Smokedawg...sweet looking car! i go to Anderson University so we are real close to each other. you will have to go to muncie with sedanman and me this spring.

Shoot me a email when u get this? did u do any of the work your self?

Is a Cobra w/o emblems a sleeper? Please, I wouldn't spend $30k on a Cobra to make people believe it's a $20K GT. Anyone who does, needs to get their head checked. Then the other side of the argument would be what? A GT is a sleeper. Can't GTs be modded to run with Cobras? Obviously, mod for mod, a Cobra would be quicker and faster but how about a modded GT vs. a stock Cobra and I'm just talking basic bolt-ons, not superchargers and nitrous.

Smokedawg 03-22-2001 10:20 AM

I didnt pay that much attention to his car really..it was dark out and didnt see much...Ya, we can all go to muncie if u dont mind a z28 goin..my best friend has the 30th anniversary edition camero(white w/orange stripes 310hp). Him and I usually go to the track together. We will get together and get to the track this year. My only problem is that I have "NO" traction. Stock turbines. No traction bars or specials shocks or anything.. I just sit and spin all day..sux bad..but i went broke after these mods

Sorry inferno, I just wanted to make sure that the 385 HP came from the Cobra R, not a standard Cobra.

we talking about all mustang gt's and all newer body style z28's and ss's as well,,,,if so i got both of them with a bone stock 2001 mustang gt with an automatic not here to talk junk just saying it the way it happen

got the z28 by 4 car lengths
got the ss by about 6 car lengths

Re: Z28 vs. "GT"

I guess some people dont understand the sleeper idea. Imagine your in a ZO6 or a Cobra telling your friend how bad your car is when a stock looking GT pulls along side and gives you a nice view of its luggage rack before its long, long gone.
Maybe you just have to be there.
