03 Mustang VS 92 Thunderbird 5.0
I hav somewht of a dilema I currtly have the choice between a 1992 Thunderbird 5.0 high output and the new 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra. The Thunderbrd wuld be an interesting project and I could probably get down to a 9 sec. car, however I'm absolutly in love with the new Mustang. On the flipside Thunderbirds are my absolute favorite car so as you can see I'm very confused. PLEASE let me know what you think.

go with the CoBrA:cool:

Yeah right, this is gonna be easy. Let's see a big 1992 thunderbird 5.0 HO (ooooh<--- sarcasm) or a 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra . I think I'll go with the Cobra... ah yeah. But hey, that's just my worthless opinion ;)

Decisions, decisions
Apples and oranges comparision.
The '92 'Bird is a project car while the '03 Cobra is turnkey muscle car with all the goodies and a 13-second et right off the showroom floor. If you really prefer building a car to buying one already finished, go for the 'Bird. I would kill for a new Cobra and I think you would be far ahead going that route. You can still mod it somewhat if you feel the need but the choice seems like a no-brainer, to me. |
I think there is a lot more work than you think to do to get that Thunderbird into the 9's. If you have a builder do the work, I wouldn't be the least bit suprised to see you spend just as much on the Thunderbird as you would the Cobra. The Cobra isn't going to run 9's, but with some good hook and some minor changes, 11's are well within reason.
I like the Thunderbird a lot too. It's a great sleeper car, and I think they look pretty sweet. That being said, those cars aren't even a close comparison as to which I'd rather have. |
Yeah, I have a similar dilemna. Right now, there are 2 girls who are interested in me. One has only one leg, is addicted to Heroin, and lost one eye in a salad shooter mishap. But I think she'd be a great girlfriend in the longrun. On the other hand, this other girl is drop dead gorgeous, a Victoria's Secret model, graduated from Stanford, and is currently in Medical school. Oh yeah, her parents left her 34 million dollars in their will. I just don't know what to do?
Dude, get the Cobra!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

go with the Bird. anyone who can afford a Cobra, can drive one off the showroom floor, but to build a Bird? i say go with the Bird. how many Birds compared to Stangs you see running 9's? not many that i know of. if you want to be different, go with the Bird. you didnt mention how much you want to spend. if you are limited, go with the Cobra. its already faster compared to the stock Bird.

My vote goes to the Cobra.:D
|
My dad has a '90 35th Anniv. SC., they are nice cars but I don't think anything compared to the new Cobra's. It all really depends, my vote goes for the Cobra, only because I think it's a very sweet car. T-Birds are nice looking but the Cobra's are amazing all around.

go with the victoria secret model.....oh wait was that one of the choices?
|
StoplightWarrior that was a good one.:D
|
i say grab a 96/97 bird they are styled better then the 92, they have a 4.6 instead of the 5.0 i have seen a couple of 12 second thunderbirds (no bad for 3700lbs) makes a great sleeper. :D
|
i seriously cant beleve thats a dilema for you. have you yet to sit in the cobra yet? when you do, im sure you'll make up your mind.
|
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I would say that there is going to be a BIG diffrence in bucks you spend, Cobra's ain't cheap,92 thunderbirds are ;)
|
im just thinkin that because he said he was thinking of both, the money didnt seem like much of a problem..after all, the money he'll spend making the Thunderbird a "9 second car" would make it pretty pricey.
|
I think the Cobra is winning.
|
Yeah, I would kill for a new Cobra as well.
Hey Jim, who could we kill?? I tell you what, if you pull the trigger, I'll drive the getaway car...even clean up the crime scene. Then we'll put the Cobra in your name, and I get it every other summer, k? Seriously, though. If I had $35000 to spend, I would be hard pressed to decide on spending it on an AWESOME new Cobra, or dumping into my Fox to create something that would blow the doors off 99.9999% of anything on the road (except Radical's 418, of course). --nathan |
wait, all these people saying the T-bird is a good looking car have got me confused....are we talking about the same vehicle? the one i thought he was talking about was the thunderbird made by Ford, which was pretty bland looking, in a droopy, flat, round, caprice classic kinda way, and too heavy to get out of it's own way. yeah, go with the Cobra.

their are many Stangs on the road compared to T-Birds. Go with the Bird!! be different!
