1970 Boss heads
I can get a pair of 1970 boss heads with 302 , w ferrea vlvs, 2.19 in, 1.73 ex. For $250.
How would these work on a 5.0 if at all? Skyler ------------------ -1989 Saleen Mustang #406- TFS TW Heads, E-303, Edelbrock intake, 70mm TB, 73mm MAF, 24lb injectors, 1 5/8 shorties, Off Road H, 3 Chamber flows, Jaz Race seats, Back seat removed, sub-frames, Roll Cage, and a 80 shot of N20. 12.54@107.4 Motor 332RWHP, 350rwtq |
they are 351C heads and I can'tremember if ford modified the heads to fit on the winsor block or it ford modified the block to fit on the heads. If they modified the heads they will bolt onto a winsor. Even if the heads don't bolt you can make them work, but you have to modify the water passages. Then again you might be able to sell them for more that 250 bucks. Sorry if this seams rushed but i gotta go to school now.

i don't think they'll work on a 5.0. there made for the cleveland motor and also they are made for high rpm's over 6000 rpm.

You can put Cleveland heads on a Windsor. It's a bit of a pain, some adapter is necessary if I remember right. The water jackets are different.
The Boss 302 heads will flow about 290cfm intake, stock, and the intake manifold will necessitate you go to carb. I doubt you'd be able to find an EFI intake you could mod to fit it, and even if you could, getting it to flow 8000+rpms would be a little hard. To put it another way, the Boss heads will out-flow Stage III Twisted Wedge units by quite a bit. Ported they can do more than 330cfm. |
I say buy the heads port them and modify the water passages and bolt them on.
BTW Boss 302 heads are clevland head that have been modified to fit on a winsor motor ------------------ DEAD(FRIED TRANS) 1990 Dodge Dynasty with 275,000 miles. Mods:chiped paint, CD player. The Boss 302 used a completely different block than the Windsor 302. [This message has been edited by Unit 5302 (edited 08-29-2001).] |

They'll BOLT directly on, but the water passageways are different because the flow through the engine is different with the boss engines (not exactly sure how they differ, but that's what i've heard) i've also heard that you have to tap and plug a couple of water ports. Another problem with the boss heads is that you'll have to get an intake manifold especially for the boss heads because the ports are SO LARGE (i believe they're almost round). If you want to convert to a carbureted car it'd still be a PITA to get it to all work together but consider it impossible with a fuel injected car. Not only that but you wouldn't want heads that flow like those (imagine NO torque below 2500-3000rpm). That's an absolutely GREAT DEAL though. It might also be a good idea just to buy them in case you may want to use them in another project in the future or you could sell them for ALOT on Ebay. If i were you, i'd buy them, but not for the Saleen.

If you are going to put them on a Boss 302 or if you plan on selling them on Ebay, go for it. Like was just posted, they are worth way more than that.
If you plan on keeping fuel injection, don't try. The intake manifolds are different from Boss to Windsor, no EFI intakes for it. It actually won't make much power below 4000rpms. Revving an engine to the powerband those heads were built for will nix a hydraulic valvetrain in favor of a solid lifter setup, and a carb, not EFI, a different crank, rods, and a lot of other **** . |
SKYMAN, BUY THE HEADS!!! for $250 bucks, its an investment! either way you cant lose. they are awesome heads!! like all the others said, you do have to do alot of fabricating to make them work on a windsor block. they are for very high rpm's. if you are going to build a high rpm motor, it can be done and those are the heads for the job. but if you dont, you can get a pretty good penny for them! those heads kick major a$$!! buy em'!
