Ok i have a question say we are comparing 1990 models both with 5.0s and 5 speeds. how much faster is the coupe than the GT. i heard from a buddy of mine with a 90 GT that the coupe is almost 500 pounds lighter...does that sound right? also if so how much faster is the coupe. anything on the GT worth having over the coupe model?

I dont know about 500 pounds, but lighter indeed, after having my 90 coupe i would have no other, but gt's are always eye catchers, just depends, my friends 90 lx hatch is only 100 lbs heavier i beleive, the coupe's can be fater in stock trim.

A coupe should be around 200 lbs lighter than a GT, give or take a few lbs. I had another 91 GT with an AOD and it weighed 3230 lbs without me in it. Most coupes I 've seen weighed are usually around 3050 lbs without driver.

Besides the fog lights on a GT, the seats are a little different between the two. I can't think of any other differences right now that would really matter anyway. Bacause the coupe is lighter, especially over the rear wheels, they tend to be harder to find traction off the launch. They can make up for that once the car gets rolling due to the reduced overall weight.

would the lx hatchback have more weight on the rear wheels? the more pictures i look at the more i like the coupes...i dont know why. seems like the coupes are the fast ones so ill probably just get a coupe i know a coupe guys with 10 second street legal coupes (well wont be as fast on street since they have to take the slicks off) but everything else is legal

You need to figure out what type of performance you want from your mustang and go from there..

weight is not your friend when it comes to performance, weight transfer is a different story. any car can be made to go 'fast'.. personally, i like the coupe..

My comment earlier about the weight over the rear wheels was directed more towards stock suspensioned cars. A coupe can be made to hook don't get me wrong. If you like the coupes, buy one, because if not you'll regret it later.

The difference in weight between the two is with the coupe you have very little back glass and a small trunk lid. The hatch of a GT or LX has a huge piece of glass and the supporting hardware. The ground effects on a GT weigh about 70 lbs. The other 130 or so lb. difference is found around the hatch. Thats where all the extra weight is between a coupe and GT hatch.

umm hey camaro guy, if they are hideous, why do you want a stang? they look way nicer than any camaro, specially those 305 ones.......

bottom line, when it comes to mod's, a gt is fine, i like my coupe, cuz im turning mid 13's with just h-pipe and pullies, and good sticky tires plus i like the plain simple look.

the 305 ones look just like the others...i dont really like the GT look for some reason i do like the coupes tho so i may get a coupe...reason i want a stang is because the 305 is a crappy motor and to make it fast id A) put in a new motor B) power adder or C) speed a crap load of money on it to get it into the 13's...another reason i want a mustang is because one of my good friends is a bigtime mustang guy and he knows a crapload of mustang guys like i mentioned above...always selling stuff for cheap. when i said i thought mustang were hideous it just depends some look really nice and some just look stupid IMO...i really like red or black mustangs with cowl hoods and blackouts all around..im not crazy about the two tone GTs or any white mustangs but thats just me. oh yeah and about the 1/4 mile time thing...you should smoke him the 305 is junk your v6 will probably take him but it may be close.

GodStang The 305's made 190 hp stock. I think you V-6 makes 140 hp, if I rememebr correctly. To be honest, I think the 305 is gonna win.
