19inch tires?

What's a good size 19 for a 01 GT?
I'd like them to be wide. Maybe have the rears sticking out of the flares a little?
What do you guys think. I like to have them for style but also extreme handeling.

I think there are better things you can do with the money it will cost for a set of 19" wheels and tires.

Just my opinion though.

Smokedawg 09-24-2001 06:21 PM

I agree with Unit...

If you get the right backspacing and the right low profile tire, you should be able to fit 275's up front and 315's in the back. These tires won't even stick out further than the wheel wells.

Fox Body 09-24-2001 07:48 PM

Why settle for 19s man, just get some 21s or 30s or 40s.

Bigger's not always better. 17s would do your car just fine for reasons already mentioned above. Sorry for not answering your question (honestly, I'm not trying to be rude).

I have the Bullit 17's on my GT right now.
They look tiny compared to vettes and vipers.
I have had people ask if they were 16's! I liked to get some wide low profile tires to beefen up the look of my '01.

Fox Body 09-25-2001 06:17 PM

That's understandable.

I've seen some 18" rims by ROH, the Azzurro, but the design of the one I saw, IMO, wouldn't look good on your car.

ROH sells those rims with tires for over $1700 per set of 4. I really haven't seen any besides those. I would think the fattest tires you could get on that car would be 315s.

Honesly man, getting some 17x9 or 18x9 would look pretty noce on your car.

I'm running 17x10.5 Cobra Rs with 315/35/17s in the rear. Trust me, these are enough. Get a set, lower the car, and you'll be VERY HAPPY.

I have 17x9 Cobra R's on my pony and they are plenty big enough. Why do you want to compare your car to a viper? It's not... In my opinion, if you want your car to have a good stance, drop your car 2" (at the most). I have a set of Eibach pro sprot springs and just about every one I talk to complments me on how my car sits. If you drop it, get low profile tires, and KEEP your 17's you will find that you will get the look you are after. If you do it right, you won't have a rough ride.

The Corvette has 17x8.5s (245/45ZR17) on the front and 18x9.5s (275/40ZR18) on the rear.

You could probably just stick with 17x9s all around and go with 245/45ZR17 on front and 275/40ZR17 on the rear.

Those would be good sizes.

sheeeeeeeeet dog, be rollin' on 19's in da stang be PIMP yo! all tha phat rydez gots da big wheelz young.

extreme handling? from 19's? not a chance. at that size, the wheels are going to be too heavy, and will have too much rotational inertia to have any handling benefits. unsuspended weight is a bad thing. and if you really want extreme handling, don't go for the wheels first thing. look at your suspension. live axle isn't exactly the best setup for handling, but it can be made to outperform ferrari's easy. Maximum Motorsports has a complete sait tailor-made for your car. stuff like subframe connectors, shocks, springs, control arms, panhard rod, K-member, all that good stuff. don't know if that's for SN-95's, but it's worth looking into. if that fails, pick up your phone and dial 954-960-0774 and talk to the good folks at STEEDA. whip out the trusty american express, and have 'em fry you up a full G-trac suspension package. level 1 will set ya back 430 bucks. if you want a strut tower brace (and the answer is YES, you do), it'll be smackin' your account to the tune of 560 greenbacks. nice huh? put the sheite on yourself and you'll be set. if you want more, you can get the G-trac stage 2 and 3 in addition, which cost 625 and 599 respectively. you can also do stuff like relocating the battery to the trunk, and doing other crazy things to lose weight. peace out G-Money.

Okay, after doing a little research I decided to go with 18's. How does 245/40/18"front/295/35/18"rear sound?

BLOCKER 09-29-2001 11:15 PM

A guy I know has a set of chrome
Motorsport R (18x9.5) on his 99 GT they look pretty sweet, the funny thing is he tries to pass the car off as a saleen/cobra (big saleen decal inthe window with cobra badges on the side, go figure!)

do you wanna sell the bullit rims?
