Hey stangflyer,

I would buy that in a instant if I had the money. I heard it could go anywhere between 50k-70k. I would also buy if my wife would let me. I have seen seen photos of it and it looks shweet.

“With 500 hp and the Shelby name, this car is an instant legend," said Hau Thai-Tang

Everything I've heard so far has said that Carrol Shelby has had nothing to do with building this car, and they just used his name. If that's true, it's really depressing.

Nonetheless, I'd STILL rather have a classic shelby mustang.

Oh, I know. I'm just excited that something typical of Ford, like "GT500 plans scrapped," wasn't happening.

I'm thinking this is another corporate marketing scheme, but you have to admit, the car wouldn't have gotten the Shelby name without the ol' man's okay to do so. This is also probably the LAST vehicle that's EVER going to be made sporting his name from the factory. Didn't Super Ford do an in-depth article on the assembly of one? Pretty ballsy of Ford to allow 9psi of boost, considering how conservative they've been with it in the past. I'm just wondering how much more it'd take before popping.

Wow thats getting close to c6 Z06 territory. I wonder what the dealer mark up will be.

I know Shelby would have had to give his ok to let them use his name, but it's just not the same, ya know?

If Honda somehow was allowed to use his name on their Civic (insert fake type-R refrigerator magnet here), it wouldn't mean crap to me.

From what I have heard dealer mark ups are 25k and most dealerships have lists that are 50 people deep. So it will be like trying to get a 2k cobra R. I have read on other sites that they where dnyoing at 475 to the wheels. Still won't be worth anywhere near the 70k you are going to have to pay to get one. Did anyone see the one at barret jackson 600,000 for the rights to the very first cobra production model the damn GT was only 575,00.

Shelby has his own line of cars that he buiilds in Las Vegas, so his name will remain on his own, brand new cars that he builds himself.

I dont know call me old fashioned but I think the 07 is not what mustang is all about its always been a fast and cheap car that the public can afford now they are trying to sell it for this price I dont like this at all its crazy. BUILD THE 500 HP BY YOURSELF YOU WILL SAVE MONEY! If I wanted something EXPENSIVE and fast I'd get a piece of crap Z06 like everyone else has and boast about eww 500 HP. All I'm saying is that it is way to much.

The car is bad a$$! Ive been dreaming of the day Ford would build another Shelby Cobra for over 25 years!

And the 05 is a beautiful car with the classic lines to make it happen on. Its making me think about getting another mustang, and I didnt expect that day to come again.

I say build it. I want to look at them on the roads even If i cant afford one. And who knows, if they make enough of them, a used one might be a good buy a few years down the road.

4000 lbs is too heavy. I've still heard that they handle extremely well and are fast as hell. HRM says Ford will only admit to 475 hp, (whatever that means?). Seems a shame that they will only commit to 7500 units/year. That's what will drive the initial price up. I'm just glad that Ford has honored their commitment to build the car..

Meh. They're basically slapping the GT engine, which in itself just a suped up Lightning engine, into the GT500. A curb weight of 4000lbs is just disgusting. The 03 Cobra was already mega portly at 3700+ 4k is getting close to the old 60's Galaxie 500s.

The 5.4 supercharged engine just does nothing for me.

Exactly. 4000 pounds for a Mustang is insane. Add with that the crappy 57/43 distribution and an OTD price in excess of $40k and I think the core Mustang enthusist is getting priced out of the market. I'm anxious to see where prices will settle once all the hype dies down and the car is actually out on the streets. Regardless, the weight issue has me very disappointed.

why does this car weigh 4000 lbs? Seems high, even with a charger

Re: 2007 Shelby GT500 gets officially rated at 500 horsepower!

The car weights in a 3920 from what I've read. FAR to heavy in my opinion. As far as I'm concerned Ford dropped the ball on this one, 500 horsepower 5.4 or not.

If the car weighed in at 3400-3500lbs it would be 500% cooler.
