Post 4.6 VS 4.2

One of my friend's dad just got a 1999 F-150 short wheel base with a 4.2 v-6 and a 5-speed. What kind of HP do those v-6s make. My dad has a 1998 f-150 long wheel base with a 4.6 and an auto. We were thinking about setting up a little race. He thinks his is faster and i think mine is. Who do u think will win?

heh. i would assume that the 98 4.6 is the same as the one in the mustang, which doesn't have that much power, but i think you'll take him. tell us the results, this is funny.

Oh this is funny. When I was in Toronto working my company issued me an F-150. It was a 1998 w/ 4.2 V6, Auto.

I was out at a customers site with one of my salesmas. He had a 2000 4.6 w/auto. On the way back we set up a little race. It was from a light up a slight hill. Both trucks were empty (although he had slightly oversized tires).

I won in the V6!

It was so funny. I'd never expect the V6 to take the V8. I think it also had something to with his tires. They were between 1" and 2" in diameter larger.

Right after that they guy was a little pissed so he asked me what he could do to get more power real cheap (and with out actually changing the truck as it was a company truck too). I got him to put a K&N in and I left before we could race again.

I'd be curious to see the out come.

Both trucks were 2WD.

I raced my dad's truck at the strip about 6 months ago. It is a 2000 chevy Extended cab 5.3 4x4. First run in 2 wheel drive was a 16.9. 2nd run in 4 wheel drive was a 15.8. I think I could've got it down alot lower. He got a K&N cold air kit$250(the stocker is so so restrictive. I think he could bust some 15.5's out of it now. Not too shabby for a 4 wheel drive extended can truck!

Trust me I have seen it the regular cab V6 5 speed especialy if it is a step side will spank the V8 auto extended cab.

I have raced them both in my truck a 00' gmc regular cab short bed 4.8L 270HP V8.

The V6 puts down 200HP and like I said if its a step side forget about it cause the step sides are light.

The V6 had me at the 1/8th mile and I flew past him and had him buy 3 cars at the end of the 1/4.

I smoked the V8 auto the whole way... BAD!
