Traction Control

I over heard some guy talking about the traction control on the newer mustangs. I have a 98 gt and was wondering do they all have some sort of traction control or must your have the traction control button on the inside before your car has it. If i do have it how does it work.

I have traction control on my 99 GT and donot have any buttons on the console to activate it. I believe it is "real-time" traction control, which means its off until the car needs it and then it kicks in. Its kinda like the real-time 4 wheel drive on some of the rice burner SUVs...hope this helps

I'm pretty sure all the traction control equiped Mustangs come with a traction control defeat switch just in front of the shifter.

Are you sure you're not thinking of limited slip?

If you dont have the on/off switch then you dont have the traction controll.
Its alway on unless you turn it off.
It senses when a wheel is slipping and will compensate by cutting power

I guess I must not have traction control, my car has whats called a Traction-Loc real axle, I assumed it was traction control...sorry for the incorrect info. (Thats what the dealer told me! D*** con artist!!)

That's the limited slip. If one wheel is slipping and the other is not, it transfers the torque to the one that isn't.

Traction control is a little more complicated. It can kill power and/or apply one or more brakes in addition to the limited slip. Good stuff.
