I agree. I don't know what the points on the ticket are, or what your previous record is, but if its at least 3 points, $500 up front for a clean driving record and no insurance increases would be worth it to me, assuming you would win.
Every time a friend of mine (thank goodness not myself yet!) has brought a lawyer to court, its been worth the expense. You could always try going yourself, then appealing with a lawyer.
