Hmmm. sounds like a piston ring gave out. Seen that happen on a few Chevy 350's.

I over revved it and hear this BLAM sound. The engine still runs, but uses oil. Its the darndst thing man. Its got oil pressure????

Then after tearing apart the motors, I have found a few busted Piston rings.

If you were stock, then it didn't go over 6250rpm. tac might have read 7 but rev limiter is set at 6250.
The rev limiter only limits fuel, so if you were to downshift, and the spinning of the driveline caused the engine to spin faster than 6250, it would simply keep going.

I've seen what happends to a 350 over reved, not a preatty site.
