Are animals suicidal?

man this was weird. i just got back from bowling tournaments and my dad picked me up in his 94 accord. we start going home and a rabbit is on the road. we slow down and honk the horn and just then the dumb rabbit runs right at us! it stayed alive because of what my dad said. he said hondas have a unibody thing underneath. still though. did this rabbit have a death wish? i mean we were going about 10mph and we were about 40 feet away and it just came running right at us. WEIRD.

I don't think he was suicidal, just disoriented. You see that with lots of animals that run across the street. Mind you, a rabbit is operating with a brain roughly the size of a walnut. They're not too bright!

Thats right. Animal's don't have the higher level of cognitive functioning that is needed to recognize a situation as being so horrible in one or more aspects that taking ones life is a justifiable meens to an end. Excluding humans of course, and possibaly dolphins

In other words. The're too stupid to intentionally try and end their life. There natural instinct is survival, and that instinct is so strong that it can't be overriden.

While we're on the subject, i have a bad a$$ video of a jack rabbit getting creamed by a Mercedes race car. It is Awsome!

I dunno man...I've seen animals do some crazy sh!t. We had this cat once that would saunter around the garage normally until we closed the door...then he'd wait a second and run out right as the door was almost on the ground. Once he even got caught under the door and when I scrambled to let the door back up he seemed pissed at me. He met his demise under the wheels of our old station wagon. He was laying right under the rear wheels. Now..when a car starts most animals run away. Makes you wonder.

I saw that video! Its crazy, that rabbit just darts across the track directly in front of the car. It almost made it, but the car was movin fast, so it took out the bumper cover and the rabbit was obliterated.

wishstang 04-06-2001 06:53 PM

yeah i have that video. i will post it.

wishstang 04-06-2001 07:25 PM

That's kinda funny this topic came up. I was going to start one asking if Robins were suicidal. I've smacked at least a dozen because the damn birds must think they're faster than me (had to be eating rice, I guess...). They'd fly in front of me out of nowhere, then TURN and go the same direction I was heading! SMACK! Stupid little bastards, could be the Lake Erie water around here, too. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif 'Bout as bad as when deer jump out and just stop and stare at you. Are they thinking, "oh, gee, headlights! Cool!!!!!!" or what!?!?!?!?!?!

That poor (stupid) widdle wabbit.....

i have proof animals are suicidal. i mean how does a dove fly into randy johnsons 100mph fastball and get hit by it? LOL

WHITECOBRAGIRL94 04-07-2001 12:46 PM

I ran straight into a bat
last week. It was still alive
when John took it off my car.
I was following him home in
the Cobra and the dang bat
hit the windshield and slid
down behind the wipers and
stayed there. Occasionally it
would stick a wing up in the
air.

I don't think animals are
suicidal, just some don't
know what to think of
vehicles and others act like
macho animals and stand in
the road waiting on ya, like
dogs.

Those video clips were awsome. Those fiats went soaring through the air.

I don't think animals are suicidal, just stupid (Gee George, look at the bright lights...kerpowie)

NoSlow5.0 04-09-2001 11:45 AM

If you watch the jack rabbit vid closely it looks like the rabbit's skin goes one way and the rest of it goes another. I could watch that all day, it is just too cool. Thanks Mandy, what else am i good for? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gifLight Em Up!!
