Ok, I was sitting in 2nd period, talkin to this Chevy guy. I started to explain about the race between Sky and the GTX. This moron, then proceeded to tell me that his dad's 71 Nova would SMOKE Sky's Saleen. He says it's a stock 350 with factory 4 barrel and dual exhaust, with a 3 speed manual. He said it traped 117 in the 1/4 on street tires:rolleyes: O also apparently the 71 Nova only weights 2300 pounds, that's why it's soooo fast:rolleyes:

If this Nova was stripped down pretty good, it's possible that it could weight 2300lbs. Not likely, but possible.

Not all Chevy owners are idiots. In Fact, I'm a Chevy owner. Course, it's a 4x4 and I think it's slower than crap....

I am 15 years old and whenever i wear my ford racing shirt that says losers wear bowties even though i have friends that are chevy people that start to argue with me like how fast a ls1 is stock. No mustang ever can beat a Z28 or SS or WS6 or formula. I know there fast i saw a near bone stock formula run a 12.8 at the track on his first time driving at the track but that is a factory freak. There are some itiots that are chevy people that are like nothign can beat a chevy etc. like are old post about the SS stock dynoing at 369hp at crown ford. But as we saw saturday night he didnt show. Every car make has its itiots its life, but in my point and no offense to anyone but the people around here are chevy and import morons.

2300 lbs sounds interesting to me. I guess I've just never seen anyone leave their motor completely stock while they lighten up the car by over 1000 lbs. I might believe that weight for a Chevy II style Nova racecar...

I know you've been on this site enough to tell who people are and SOMEWHAT how they act. If not, ok, I guess it doesn't really matter. But within the first few days I was at all active on this board and read some of tireburner163's posts I knew he wasn't a COMPLETE loser (just a little:p). It is an EXTREMELY ignorant thing to say if you 100% serious. But how many people really think that each and every single Chevy owner is an idiot. Common sense tells you that only huge morons would say something that dumb. And you know as well as I do, that tireburner163 isn't a moron. So put two and two together, and you come up with: HE WASN'T SERIOUS!

Someone needs to GET TO THE TRACK.....and pay atention.

Novas usually are fast cause of there weight.

A guy named Gary Hollifield that I know has a Nova that ways about 2500 lbs and runs a 12.6 @110 @3000ft with a mildly built 327 with good gearing and an auto with a 5000 stall.

So in other words this guy would probably beat SKYMAN motor to motor @sealevel.

There is a reason why nearly ever Nova ever made is now a drag car. They are light and a Chevy V8 drops right in there.

Many, Many a 10 second Nova over here.

Skymans car is sweet and really fast but please dont think a 12.54 is invincable.

IMO, blanket statements are always stupid.

Dark 5.0, this guy was saying that a COMPLETLY stock 71 nova was traping 117. Stock carb, stock dual exhaust, stock tires, stock gears, stock filter, stock EVERYTHING. He was also saying that Nova weighted 2300 pounds from the factory, nothing removed. If a stock Nova can trap 117, I'm sellin my car and buying a 71 Nova

:D burner i work with a bunch of chevy guy's,two of them are idiot's but the rest of them are ok ,the 2 stooges alway's want to race my STOCK gt with their built out the a-s 454 camaro's, i just laugh at them ,the other guy's just roll their eye's,they know so i dont dog them all just those two, but we have 1 ford guy that everyone hate's,not because he brag's about ford's he is just an idiot,l8ter:D

Dark 5.0 - Sorry, but a '71 Nova is not a very light car. I'm assuming this kid's dad's car came with the big, bad 270hp 350 from the way he claims it moves. That makes it 3200-3300 lbs in stock trim depending on options. If you think that qualifies as a really light car, then I guess my new Stang is a featherweight too. I have several friends with Chevy II's - those are the only really lightweight Novas, although some of the late 60's models were a little under 3000 lbs.

I find it funny that everyone thinks my '70 weights a tonne cause it's so old. Then when I try to tell them it weighs less than a brand new mustang they don't believe me :rolleyes:

What is kinda sad about this particular case is that the Dad probably has a very nice Nova, but the arrogant, uninformed son is playing a game of "my daddy can beat up your daddy". I used to have a nitrous injected Buick LeSabre that reached 521hp on the dyno. It was my daily driver. My ex-girlfriend of 8 years had 3 kids, and they were very impressed with the Buick, but didn't know or understand any of it's particulars. They just knew it was fast. Well, one day at little league, one of the other kids fathers approached me and asked me about my "nitro burning Buick funnycar". I looked at him puzzled, and he quickly told me the story he had heard from his kid. By the time the details of my car had reached him, it was nothing short of a top fuel funnycar/daily driver. We both had a long laugh over it, but I will say he was quite impressed when he checked it out. Still, kids take pride in their parents things, and often exagerate, especially when it's something they don't fully understand.

Blue00GT When I refer to Novas being light I am talking about drag cars that are race prepped..

Its not hard to get a Nova to weigh under 3000lbs.

Most people I know have 400sb in there novas.

They are a very respecible car in drag form.

Stock they are turds.

Dark 5.0 - I read you there. My buddy is rebuilding his '63 Nova with a blown 383 as we speak and his is slightly under 3000lbs with full interior. It's got a ladder bar rear supension, but still has the original bench seat. Scary thing is it is going to be street driven alot - we can't wait to go punish the ricers with some classic American muscle.
