another "rice" question
okay, i posted the other thread, i completely understand where you are coming from.........
-i do think all the "rice" jokes are pretty much played out -i do think that some people don't have a fair definition of rice......if i a guy is building a show car or a stereo car and it is done right and isn't concerned with street racing at all, i don't think his car is rice at all -i don't like the term "ricer"........it kinda carries racial overtones and doesn't necessarily make the user sound intelligent......i think "poser" would be a more accurate description okay, back to my question: would you consider this rice? the guys that run around in the stock or relatively stock (read intake/exhaust only) 5.0's, or 4.6's, or camaro's, or whatever..........often have decals, or cowl hoods, or blackouts and drive around like they are billy badarse and the fastest thing on the road |
youre talking the difference of 4 spark plugs....but when they put bigass wings on their stangs/camaros/fb's, or outrageous ground effects...sure they are...but a cowl hood on a V8? c'mon...and I hardly ever see stangs/fb's/camaros covered in decals...if you see one they tend to be real performance part brands...we mostly think thats dumb, but mostly because it makes your car more succecptable to being stolen...its mostly those stickers on rice that say that have stuff they dont, or giant chinese characters when they probably don't even know what the character means...
racing parts are meant for cars that have over 3L...if I want a saleen hood or cobra wing on a mustang, why not? they look beastly, arent color changing (unless you are dumb and make them  ), are not made of paper mashée, and were designed for mean sports cars back in the 60s, before the "econocar" was really used... now who do you think would win? a stock 4.6L 99GT with black outs, a steeda wing, and a 3" cowl hood or a stock 99 Civic with black outs, some double decker wing, and a 3" cowl hood?...easy question i think... and I almost think you are trying to start something...lol |
i know a guy with a 99 civic si.............visually his mods are colormatched side skirts and altezza's...........he has intake/cam gears/exhaust...............his car is a track proven 15 second flat car
i also know a guy with a stock 95 mustang gt that is an auto.........he has a cowl hood despite no clearance issues, blackouts, and a huge blue oval in the rear window.........he has a k&n and flows.........his car is also a track proven 15 second flat car both act like they are the fastest thing on the road i don't see the difference |

Ricer has been the classification that I grew up with in the 70's and 80's, so it's the norm in my book. It's not my fault that 90% of the idiots that create these monstrosities drive Japanese cars. The shoe fits, and it will be worn. FWIW, the definition goes far beyond performance. A ricer is a car with light blue latex paint, and a ground effects kit made from rain gutters purchased at Home Depot. A ricer is a car with light up valve stem caps. A ricer is a car with magnetic decals platered all over it, it no particular pattern. A ricer is a car with a rear wing that resembles a picnic basket handle. A ricer is a collection of random items affixed to it, that serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever. A ricer is a vehicle with 4 sets of taillights. A ricer is a car with a coffee can for an exhaust pipe that sounds an awful lot like a mouse farting infront of a small box fan. A ricer is a car that's weight is doubled thanks to a half dozen gallons of bondo. A ricer is a car whos owner has gone to great lengths to try and fool people into thinking it's a race car, but the driver is clueless, and his mods are the likes of half a dozen fake scoops in locations where real ones would never be. Take care, ~Chris These are but a few of the definitions of a ricer. |

Remember rice is an attitude, try not to always focus on the cars. Yes it is the cars that look bad, but it's people that made them. I don't have do much problem with a "show" car. Of course if they take a civic and put $10,000 in body parts so Batman would get confused between the bat-mobile and the show car, that's going overboard, IMO. Now if buddy in his stock powered civic show car pulls up next to me and wants to "kick some american muscle *****", well he can try all he wants, but that's being a ricer. |

He's trying to be faster than he is and think he's quicker than he is. Basically be a "poser". If I pulled next to a moded Supra, I would DEFINATELY not think I "have this in the bag". That would be dumb. Of course I'd still run him. Don't know if I'd just rev at him, that's kinda dumb in my book. ***** or get off the pot. :) |
cbring,
I get the feeling that you asked a question, got an answer... but you don't like the answer you received. Its been said before, rice is an attitude, not a car. It doesn't matter WHAT you drive, but it happens to be that MOST ricers drive Japanese sport compact vehicles. From my experience and the experience of countless others, this whole fad began with Japanese imports, hence the term "rice", whether you find it "politically acceptable" or not. It has since spread to all makes of cars, usually driven by young males, aged 16-23, in pants 10 sizes to big for them with no belt to keep them up. Rice is a preoccupation with appearance over substance. To try to look cool even though you may be a lame a$%. Every generation has its "in" thing.... which makes me believe I'll be seeing a lot of these monstrocities these folks call cars in a crusher some day. Although it is rare, you CAN be a fast ricer. The definition of "fast" is quite varied. A 14 second Civic in my opinion is not "fast". It may be fast for a Civic, but in general, is not "fast". Quote:

They often put Cobra badges on their V-6 and rev on Civics... Just sad... Quote:
1. A ricer wants to run that 11 second LS1 because he believes all the hype about is cold-air "intake" published in Sport Compact Car and by the media blitz of the Slow and the Stickered. 2. A ricer will instigate said race by turning up his stereo to an intolerable level, line up next to said car at the stoplight, rev the beehive hard at the line while giving the driver of the other car his "game face". (I've actually heard someone call it that...) You may also see this accompanied by several remarks such as "Camaro's Suck!" or "What a POS!" Personally, if I want to race, I will usually pull up next to him\her, start a conversation usually consisting of: "What's it got in it?" and "What does it run?". I will then usually ask if they want to run. If a race is started like this, you will usually get a thumbs up afterwards whether you win or lose. And I've actually met some good friends that way. Many people want to see how their car does against a supposedly "superior" car. But as I said at the very beginning, its all in the attitude. Of course, all of this is just my opinion.... |

Couldn't be said better! |
I have a story for you guys...
A buddy of mine that is a member of a local club that started out as lowered mini-trucks, but is nearly over-run by custom import cars that are lowered and, in some cases... "riced-out" ...some are actually self-proclaimed show cars and they would never claim it as a racecar... however, a couple individuals in this club think they have some real serious race cars and I wanted to see them in action... on the drag strip! Since they were throwing around all these #'s... HP, ET, top speed, etc.... I figured it would be a good idea to get them all together and see what they could really do. My buddy and I came to this conclusion after him watching the footage of my car from the last several outings... watching it go from 11.60's at the beginning of the year to 10.30's at that point in time (several weeks ago, new best in sig) he became interested and wanted to see what his non-turbo Imprezza would do in the 1/4... along with his buddies car's from the club. We made plans for the Friday night trip to the track on a Wed. night and he let these guys know... about 6 of them agreed to the outing and had plenty of time to get ready. Friday comes along, we all meet up at a Hardee's. The bench racing begins.... I don't normally hang with these guys (now I know why), but I figured it would be good to see what this import stuff is all about. I thought they were serious about going... well, they guy with the 'fastest' ride finally shows up about a half hour late... strolls in all calm, get some food, and starts talking about going back to the shop to change his intake!!! This was around 7pm... we were supposed to be on the road already, and they wanted to sit around and TALK about it... which was fine with me, until the subject of switching intakes came up. At that point, I realized that these guys are a bunch of strokers (my opinion)... looked at my buddy like WTF? ...getting the same look from him, we decide to say "Well, we're going! ...Later!" I swear they would've sat around and bench raced the night away... and the weather was great!!! Three of the six didn't even bring they're import racecar with them... they just showed up. I couldn't believe it... I actually gave these guys the benefit of the doubt and they pulled this stunt!!! On the way to the track, my bud tells me about what happened at the Indy Truck bash they all attended awhile back, which is the only time the 'fast' car of the group (honda civic with a Jackson Racing 'charger) went down the 1320... the guy was bragging about how it will go 13.50's and he mustered only high 14's... so I began to see things for how they really are.... posers, ricers, jerk-off's ...any of those terms will do for me! I could go on... but will refrain... :D I'm currently trying to get my friend to get these strokes rounded up again so we can ALL go to the track... I really want to see these cars go down the track. There just aren't ANY imports making a serious effort in my neck of the woods... I have yet to line up with one that can even remotely hang with the 'stang. And all I ever hear are excuses!! For example, once they got their ***** together.... and made an attempt to catch up with us... the 'fast' guy got pulled over and called my bud afterward and said he couldn't make it because he got pulled over??? I laughed pretty hard at that one... he didn't even get a ticket!!! LOL! Some day...... Oh, btw... my bud's Imprezza went a best of 16.56... he was disappointed and doesn't plan on taking it back... me, I just give him hell about owning an import... he comments back that my hood is too big ;) ...we've known each other too long, so it's all fun and games! He talks about my car to his import friends are they are all unimpressed for the simple fact that, as they put it... "dude, it's a Mustang." Like, big deal! "I could make my import twice as fast with as much money as he's got in that...." that's funny, I thought it was the other way around. But, hey, what do I know??? Not much apparently... :D |

I end up having to run people all the time, because they think they are faster than me. I would say that anyone who puts the show before go has issues in my book. If I pull up next to an import and see his "game face", I'll give him a run. Doesn't matter if it looks like its acutally boosted or not. I don't expect to always win, but I will ususally run. Here is something that happened last night. I'm sitting at a red light that is taking forever. Guy in a 99 Maxima SE pulls up next to me. I don't think anything of him, and am watching cars turn left onto the street. There goes a sweet LeMans Vert, Americans, raked, etc. I could hear it from where I was. So I get a little excited and roll up to try and trip the light faster.(had been there for a while) The guy in the Maxima must have thought I was buggin him, because the light dropped and he lit up those front tires like it was Christmas. Caught me off guard so I nailed it, and there went my traction. Still pulled the maxima, and never got to run the Ponitac. Did that guy in the Maxima really think I wanted to run him? I just don't understand imports sometimes. |
somebody said something about not getting the answer i wanted. i seek no particular answer. i just wanted to get a picture of the mindset here. obviously, like any other board or group of people, you'll have the people who have it together, and people who are ignorant

performance before show. that's great and i completely understand and even agree to a certain extent, but if any who doesn't agree with you has issues, maybe you are the one with the issue Quote:
about once a week, i find some dickhead (usually high school kid) in a fox-body hanging halfway out his car, yelling to me how imports suck, and revving the crap out of his car at me.........and we are usually bumper to bumper in traffic................. i don't let that formulate my opinion towards all mustangs |
Quote:
I don't judge all imports according to the scenario I described above... but we do have alot of wanna be import racers in the community in which I reside. I realize there are some really respectable imports out there, I just haven't come across any yet... I should get out more though :) I have a friend with a T/T AWD 3000GT that has some serious top end (170mph)... he thinks he can take me on the street in a 1/4mi and I offered to hand him his butt and he backed out... then wanted to race to the top-end on the highway! |
I have blackouts/ exhaust/ etc...
Take a look at my car, I have exhaust, 3.73 gears, blackouts, and a cowl hood. Does that make me a ricer? I think if you do modifications that affect the look of the car it's not rice as long as it's done in good taste. When I'm driving around here in Cali, I know I could beat MOST (that means not all, but 90%) of the cars on the road. I'm not an idiot who races anyone who looks my way, but I'll show up a ricer or two if they're asking for it. I have lost ALL respect for ricers due to the amount of IDIOTS who rice their car out, and don't do any real performance mods, so if I pull up next to them in my near stock 5.0 I'm going to be arrogant. I'm not saying I'll be the one over-revving my engine and turning my stereo on as loud as it goes, but I'll definately have a chip on my shoulder. We don't base our reasoning off just one guy, this is a fad that has been around for at least 5 years. We have experienced this more than just one time. Take care, Keith

how you figure i'm tryin' to BS you? don't think civics could possibly run decent times...........magazine guys clocked mid-15's stock and i somewhat doubt that magazine guys know how to extract full potential out of a car with such a narrow powerband.......... i know or know of at least a half dozen 99-00 civic si's (with more mods than that) that have ran a proven better time |
Quote:
Also, I said "sometimes". Does that mean all the time? No. I never said that I think all import guys are ignorant, although I'm starting to lean that way, from discussions like this one. His car would be a good race for me if I had broken my left foot, but that's about it. I see kids trying to race all the time. Mostly in imported cars because they don't think my car is a real GT.(no fog lights, 16" rims.) Basically, you get kids in domestics that think all imports are dogs, and we get kids in imports who haven't learned that american v-8's are actually a great place to start. |
I know of a Civic with a few mods, the main one being a Jackson racing supercharger.... and it ran high 14's
He claims it as a 13.50 car:rolleyes: I raced a Turbo Eclipse at the drag strip... it went 13.5 to my 10.3... not much of a race :D |

but honestly, if i saw your cowl hood and wing at the track, and then watched you run a high 13, low 14 (i'm guessing what you'd run), i'd think to myself, "that car is a lot slower than it appears to be." i think it looks fine, but i also think you are tryin' to make it look faster than it is Quote:
|
Yes there are!!
You're telling me you've never had someone pull up next to you in a stock Accord with his hat on sideways with his radio (not even a CD player) on as loud as it goes try to race you. That is the ricer mentality (sp?) we are trying to tell you about.
Here's an example. There was this neighbour of mine (about a year ago) who was about 19, (not much younger than me) that would try to race me in his MOM's escort. There wasn't anything done to the car (except a few dents he put in it) that would give him any reason to think he could even keep up with me, but I had to race him a few times before he stopped trying to race me. I don't think a 13 second car is slow, do you? What does your VW run? I'll bet somewhere around mid 15's. All I have to do is throw the normal H/I/C in my car and it'll run in the 12's. I'm just estimating, but it'd only cost around $2000. These ricers pay 12-15K for an economy car, then dump $5000 into it and it still can't keep up with me and my $2000 worth of mods, plus the $3500 I paid for my car. It's kinda strange how this ricer topic gets under your skin so bad. It's actually kind of funny. Take care, Keith |
kamaro killer
-accord boi isn't a "ricer".........a ricer is a kitchen utensil........he is simply a moron -no, i don't think a 13 second car is slow..........and i think it is fine that you have the hood and wing (though i hate cowl hoods, period), but why did you add those? i am guessing it is because you wanted it.............what is wrong with someone in a 17 second car wanting a wing? -i've never ran at a drag-strip, so i'm not going to even wager a guess. i do know that good drivers in bone stock cars just like mine seem to run 14.9x's or 15.0x's -i thought the "well, if my car had this, this, and this, i'd run this" attitude we one of the things that people didn't like about the "ricers" -what makes you think it is under my skin, i'm just interacting a bit while i'm trying to make some money -tell me about these ricers that don't rice out their car |
Cbring.
You are really looking to start some trouble, eh? What Kamaro Killer is talking about is mentioning proven enhancements on his car. It is verifiable, ask any the guy he is going to buy the H/I/C from what the car runs with it. You won't let it die, keep asking these post-modern style questions that you hope we cannot answer with something other than a , "Oh wise VW, you are so right." BS Most ricers do very little to their cars. Stickers and a wing do not mean big mods to me, so the same kid in a car that he hasn't been by Pep Boys to pick up his "Type-R" sticker (yes they sell these) and wing is still a ricer. There is nothing inherently wrong with putting a wing on a car, unless you brag about "the mad downforce" from it. Heck, my car is slower by 2 mph in the top because of the drag assoc with mine, Ford new that, but did it anyway. You want to call them 'morons', we call them 'ricers'. It's like you are protecting them because you are afraid someone might think you aren't PC enough. Grow a spine. Homo, ricer, heck fag even, call it what it is, not "moron" or "alternative lifestyle participant". There are a lot of words for a reason. Get your car to a strip and put up or shut up about ricers. |
It think it's getting under your skin...
because there have been about 10 different people who explained our view of a ricer, and you don't seem to get it. If you don't agree with us, that's fine, but don't try to reiterate the fact that you disagree with our opinion of a ricer. We know, you don't believe in "ricers", and that's cool. I'm not trying to sway your opinion, but it seems you are trying to sway our opinion over and over. That is why I think it's getting under your skin. You may think that a ricer is a kitchen utensil, but here at MW, we don't. We've all experienced these ricers in thier civic's, accords, etc... and we are tired of this fad
We believe the term ricer describes an attitude, presented mostly by people in imports. There are plenty of people with this attitude who drive imports, even though thier car is totally stock. They know thier car is stock, but still try to race everything on the road as if they are fast. A ricer isn't merely defined by the car he/ she drives, he/ she's defined by the attitude that they think they are fast and can whoop anyone, when we all know that they are slow. I have nothing against a 5 foot wing on a car, I personally wouldn't do it, but that doesn't mean I can't make fun of it by calling the driver a ricer. I was not bench racing here by saying my car would do this or do that with this or that. I am merely saying even though I know my car's pretty much stock, I know it'll beat a lot of the car's on the road. That doesn't make me go out and race everything I see, just because I think my car's fast. That's the ricer attitude we don't like. I know my car in it's stock form is fast, and by doing some simple mods, I know I could smoke a vette. Tell me the last time you saw an import that you could dump 2k into to that'll smoke a vette. These ricers read too much into the hype that thier magazines spew, and don't do enough work to their car. BTW, when I purchased my car it had the cowl hood, and the blackouts were $5 from a friend. Now that it's my car, I am planning a sick combo. I'm actually putting more thought into the performance side of my car, rather than the appearance, like most ricers. Later, Keith |
why does it have to be such a we/they, us/them thing?
i don't want to be a "them" or an "us", i want to be a "this is not cbring" these are cars, its in fun........it isn't war i used to hate all the dickhead, redneck mustang/camaro drivers when i was 18 and driving a sebring lowered w/rims, stereo, and speedoptions.com windshield banner (my car was actually on their website and i got show and autocross discounts from them, so i wouldn't call it "rice" but you can if you want)................. i gave up on hating, 2 or 3 years ago and it has been a lot more fun............i go both import and domestic shows (my last trip was to the corvette musuem/assembly plant)......... i just ignore the morons and/or beat them when i can well, there is a 454 chevelle waiting to be driven, have fun "rice-hating".............i'll check in later |
I will!
I have pleny of fun rice-hating. It seems about 80% of the people my age (21) have rice burners. i have plenty of fun smoking thier asses.
It's wasn't us vs. you, you made it that way by trying to tell us over and over that our view of ricers is wrong. You prefer VW's for your personal reasons, and most of us prefer mustangs. I have yet to understand why you constanly stick up for ricers, unless you're trying to imply that you are a ricer. Hmm, I wonder, lol. Too bad you're all the way in TN, cause I'd be VW hating too. Later, Keith |
Then just let it go.
I get the feeling you have some qualms about being thought of as rice, and that's why you bring it up. More time discussing smoking Chevelle tires, less talkng about boosting your 1.8. :D |

I usually try to refrain from replying to these types of posts, but...
TINC,
When I first heard the term "ricer", I kinda had a small problem with it also. I am just not one for name calling, I guess, and I specifically don't like to jump on bandwagons and follow popular trends, whether good or bad-- that's just me-- so I can kinda understand where you are coming from, really. But I, just like a lot of other REAL musclecar enthusiasts (notice, I said "car", not "Mustang"--even though I am specifically a Mustang enthusiast, I am also secondarily a "musclecar" enthusiast) get really stinking annoyed with stupidity. It's just the whole "rice" scene that is really annoying. When you are someone that takes pride in hard work and putting a car together and then you get this "poser" come up beside you, it's rather disgusting. I don't need to get into all the details about what is a "ricer" and what is not, that question has already been answered quite well in this thread and especially this one. The mental and physical (well-outlined by 84LX89GT) aspects of riciology have been spelled out. The only real way I think one can understand why people get SOOOOOO stinking frustrated with ricedom is to get themselves a serious muscle/sports car (Mustang, Supra Turbo, Corvette, Skyline GTR, Camaro, etc, etc), then put tons of HARD WORK into it and then have these stupid little annoying riceboys w/ their rockets talk alot of big talk about what they have and what they can do, and pose, and pose and pose etc etc, and that person will soon understand. Pretending in this case is CHILDISH and stupid. These guys need to abandon this pitiful world of fantasy and wake up! To me personally it is frustrating, but then again, I have to think, well, even though I think their cars are STUPID childish or whatever, people are different and have different opinions, tastes, etc. One reassuring thing, how would we know what is awesome (eg, well-put-together '69 Camaro) if we don't know what SUCKS (eg, a riced out 'stang)???????? You have to admit, this is a Mustang message board so many opinions and praises will sway primarily towards MUSTANGs and other domestics. Don't expect that you will just come in and change people's minds or perspectives on rice hating (...and I don't suppose that is why you post such threads). Just an observation, but believe it or not, some people here see your questions or remarks, as polite as they may be, as definding rice and that will not go over well here, even if that was not your intention. Just remember where you are. Right? of course if I went over to a strictly import board and started posting the same types of questions there and kept pushing the subject again and again, people are gonna automatically start thinking I'm some domestic guy that has come to start trouble-- well, most likely-- you gotta be honest. One thing is for sure TINC, you have been very polite asking your questions even though you keep pushing the subject and b/c of that (even in the face of some snide remarks from one or two of our wonderful members ;)), this thread has not gotten out of hand as it has the potential of doing. I enjoy reading your posts. You seem like an intelligent guy (alright you guys don't laugh). We need a few more like you around here, one not easy to start or encourage a flamewar (but you still need a Mustang, dude ;)) ....And I must say I am impressed by others who have kept this thread under control (lack or name calling, snide remarks) by utilizing patience with TINC's repeated questions. All in all, remember, this is a Mustang site (just reminding you) and we have different opinions here. You have to live the life (mentally and physically) a few years as a real Mustanger to properly understand ricedom, posing, whatever, from our perspective......... But....... Let's not make this rice hating stuff a religion and start going on crusades and stuff cause then we really got some issues more so than the ricers...... |

And I forgot to say...
And yeah, many of us DIE HARD MUSTANGERS may have started out a bit ricey. Especially if we didn't grow up around many real car enthusiasts and didn't have direction and the right influence when we were younger. I remember when I had my other V6 stang, I put this shiny exhaust tip on it b/c the other one looked rotten but the new one stuck out too much. But I still liked it b/c it was shiny :D. There are a few other things I did that I'm not so proud of, but over time and a little good influence and direction and common sense, I soon grew out of it. There's gotta be a time to grow up. And I don't mean going out and buying yourself a 2003 Cobra, get what you like, import or domestic and try to be honorable in what you do. Don't degrade a decent car WHATEVER IT MAY BE with cheap/stupid/flashy little trinkets and dodads thinking "oh wow, I'm cool now and can hang with the big dogs". Dont' pull up beside stangs and with a nasty attitude like your their daddy.
And stang guys, every once in a while, have a little sympathy on the respectful ricer guys, if you act snobby to them all the time, they're just gonna have the same stinking attitude towards you as you do to them. Hey, maybe you can influence them in a good way, I know I have (from experience). That's converting one ricer at a time..... :D |
I'm quoting this off a site I found....
The term "Rice-Boy" is meant to be a derogatory term. But not racially derogatory. Some people might say that regardless of what this disclaimer says, it makes Asians look bad. Well, I hate to break it to these people but asians are not the only people on this planet who eat rice. Everyone eats rice. White people eat rice. Black people eat rice. Native Americans? They eat rice. Europeans eat rice!! And, if you open your eyes, you might notice that a whole lot of the rice-boys out there aren't even asian! The "rice" really refers to their cars. It's not about their race, it's about their attitude! If you want to read more of a definition check out his page. http://www.riceboypage.com/what_is_riceboy/ I think it's a great site and makes some really valid points. §am. |
different strokes for different folks...
I think the whole "rice" thing has gotten way outta hand...
however, PKRWUD..... I nearly fell out of my chair after reading your reply! I'm dyin' over here!!!! :D LOL! That was great! |

I try to relate rice with this formula: supercar looks-actual performance+ignorant ******* attitude=rice rice is kinda racial because its term came mainly from the old days of true "only commuter" car status of imports, before there were any true import sports cars. i'm glad there is a wakeup call to get some serious performing imports on the market, it keeps the ford, chevy guys on there toes and make this game more fun. rice is more of a mentality IMO, its negating a simple fact that you wanna be respected in the racing world, but don't got the stones to lay down the rubber so they make the car the most interesting car they can with huge wings, foglights, etc. rice is imitation. but to run with the racing pack you better have money under the hood to justify that conning tower rear wing set up. bad atittudes can happen to anybody, domestic...import.. ford or ferarri, an ****** is an ****** in my opinion, i don't care what you drive. plus poser is skateboard lexicon, i like the fact cars guys have there own language.:D |

As far as that 15 sec Honda, well, it sounds like a fast car (for a civic.). However, I'm not about to sink a bunch of money into a front wheel drive car like that just to go 15's when I could put half as much into a 5.0 Mustang and go 13's or 12's. Most of these rice boys don't even know what their cars are pathetic pos's. They think that if they put on a fart can and a wing they're ready to whoop on every domestic that they line up againist. I just don't understand their mentality. Look, I own a import. You can read my sig and tell that. You own a import. Do I plan to rice it out? Hell no! If anything, it'll get bigger mud tires on it and a lift, but that's it. My question to you is, do you plan to rice out your car? Daniel. |
do i plan to rice my car?
well, dan, i guess it depends who's defining rice. these are my plans (though i seriously doubt they will all come to fruition, and if they do, it'll take several years) -rear sway bar -strut tower brace -aftermarket diverter valve -intake -1.1 bar (16 psi) chip -exhaust -downpipe -lowering springs -beat lots of mustangs at the track and at the autocross:D then i'll add 18"s wheels, bigger brakes, color-matched chin spoiler and rear valence, grill insert, some sort of subtle rear spoiler up top then when i burn up the clutch, ima add: -short shift kit -upgraded clutch -lightened flywheel -Automatic Torque Biasing Differential |
Sounds like great mods. Looks like your going to be an auto cross racer. That's great there are some guys like that here too, but they are a little more rare. The Cobra is the good handling car of our breed (stock), but sounds like you'll have fun.
Chris, buddy, where are you coming up with this stuff, LMAO, too funny! |
so you wanna know?
What i dont understand, why would you put 600 horses on a FWD car? THAT IS RICE! regaurdless how fast it is, it is RICE!
Remember Cbring, American Muscle has been here WAY before hopped up FWD 4 cylinders. Ever hear of the "FLATHEAD FORD"? Where was your "Race car"? oh thats right, wasnt around! You RICERS got the racing/horsepower from the good ole' Americans! As for German engineering, i cant say any real bad stuff about them. It is just the ASIAN auto market. Rice term was directed toward the birthplace of the vehicle, Japan. Since Japan is part of Asia, and Asians ate alot of rice in their culture, you can put the two together and see where it came from. Since stupid people started to breed, so did the cars. They got really dumb. The first? Japanese cars. It eventually bled out to German Automobiles and American automobiles.(remember, we are talking about ricers!) Form and function. if you cant use either one of these (example, big wing!) then why bother? dont get me wrong, i really do like imports. i own them and modify them, but making something asz-backwards seems like ricer mentality to me. Remember, about 85% of ricers have Japanese vehicles. (from what i noticed people talking about and around my hometown) Japanese cars can be fast either FWD, AWD and RWD. If you were raised with a parent or a family member who owned an old muscle car, a very good chance it will be carried on in the family. My pops owned a 65 Fastback 2+2 289. look what i own. see the pattern? real horsepower and cool looking cars. your generation of rice? FWD small displacement, highly overpriced aftermarket, happy meal bolt ons, garbage pail kids stickers all over the Fuggng car, HUGE wing that doesnt do anything, exhaust that DOES sound like schit, taillights that look fake 10 miles away, booming rictor scale stereos, neon bar lights under the car, disco color gauges, huge wheels, small brakes, paint-to-match interior, Chinese writing on the car even the Chinese cant understand and window tint that changes color. Huh, i wonder why Ricers get picked on? i dont understand it myself:rolleyes: that was the 85% Here is the 15% of non Japanese vehicles: same as above, but RWD! now us. Nice sounding exhaust. aftermarket bolt-ons that actually work, power that you can FEEL, numbers to prove it, your dad approves the Stang/Camaro, dad telling you stories when he was a kid, "i had a 67 bla bla bla, with a big block yada yada yada..."not "i had a 1.6 with yada yada yada", we can pull the front wheels off the ground, posi-traction that works, we can peg our 140 speedos with out any power adders, stock form they are pretty fast, we can drift better, we have a better useable torque range, we can Supercharge it, Turbo it, or Juice it(notice i didnt use NAWS!), we have pickups that are faster than most of your terrrbo FWD's, weight distrubution is better, if we have a wing, we can use it for the high speed the car can actually do, horns dont sound "gay", we can add more displacement without any power adders, we have unique names for our autoparts like Rockcrusher, 3 dueces and Shaker, and last but not least, you have no idea what i just said, cause you are part of a generation of automation, not automotive. Also, don't know what "heritage" is and something the Japanese imports will never have. FLATHEAD FOREVER! where is the pic of your car not a Cbring? do you have any? we all would like to see it! Now just look back at what i read and pretend you are neutral on the subject. Say your not an automotive enthusiast, just an average Joe/Jane who thinks of the automobile as just "transportation". Of the two paragraphs, which one would you laugh at? nuff said! my next project, maybe, 88 Supra Twin Turbo or hop up my 87 TBird. Remember, IT GOES WITH THE TERRITORY! p.s. just to make it clear, i still like imports, even FWD ones and even modding them, just wont sink 10 grand to go 14's! you get the point.... |
i kinda had trouble following.........
were the you's directed at me specifically? |

1) where does this 600 horse figure come from? i've never even heard of a FWD with 600 horses 2)sounds like you got me pegged with the description.... my first car was a 1977 ford f100, followed by a 1980 camaro.........if the owner will accept my $8300 cash offer, i'll own a 1968 chevelle with a 454 tomorrow.......i've never owned a japanese car.........i'll turn 24 this month, i'm a college graduate and i work for a finance company, about once a month, i thrash through mountain roads with a group of other european car owners and then talk about stocks, investments, and the business world in general over lunch............if i'm not wearing a shirt and tie, i'm wearing khaki's and a golf shirt................if that doesn't fit your ricer stereotypes, i don't know what does 3)sink 10 grand to break 14's?..........if my car can't break 14's bone stock, it can off of free mods............ when shopping for a new car, my final choices were my gti and a mustang gt.........i got my gti for 4k cheaper than the best price i could get on a mustang gt.........my insurance quotes: gti $742/6 mos, mustang gt, $1450/6 mos........that is $1406 per year.........that is $5624 over the 4 year time frame............a combined $9600 cheaper to operate than a mustang for the first 4 years..............for $9600, i can get all the mods i listed in the about post (resulting in a car that is capable of beating a stock 02 mustang gt in straight-line and road-racing performance) and have money left over for my Roth IRA you didn't mention useable torque, but my gti's peak torque is at 1950 rpm's |

your telling me you never seen a 600hp FWD drag car? i dont blame you if you havent.
whats all this mumbo-jumbo about prices? you pocket could have more money in it than mine, what does that have to do with a ricer? |
i posted some money figures, because it was implied that it isn't economically pheasible to "build" an import
is there a 600 horse FWD out there? i don't follow drag cars, straight-line doesn't do a whole lot for me and isn't my primary interest performance-wise |
man give it up, ricers include domestic cars with the same stupid body mod's , sticker's, clear taillight's etc, i live an hour away, wanna line up against a stock gt? auto -even, i will smoke you like a cheap cigar, just ask the rice boy 3000 gt i burned 2 nights ago, he tried the fly by, tell you what, i will give you a 1 mile head start! since your peak is what 1800 rpm's, i cruise at 75mph at 2200 rpm's, LET"S ROCK!, put up or shut up. bling bling. how about it rabbit boy. case closed, pm me for my phone # lets rock.    :p your bs is starting to get on my nerves ,STFU. go away silly wabbit.:D :D

OK, just my $.02,
Speaking as someone who appreciates performance in any guise, I would like to venture this opinion. To me there is definatly [sp] a difference between a car that has been modified and a car that has been "riced" (sorry, but the term grew out of the reality that the majority of those doing it were import owners). The difference is ATTITUDE. A true enthusiast is interested in the performance of their car be it on the track, at a stereo compeition, on the course, etc. The "rice" attitude leans more toward bluster rather than the hard side of the matter (more show than go in whatever arena). It doesent matter what you drive. If you are more interested in what others think your car can do than what it can actually do, you are a ricer. And yes, there are import enthusiasts out there who really believe in making their car perform better, and appreciate that in others, but they are lost in a background of reckless-driving, fart can owning, dual exaust on a 4 banger driving twits. To all the v-8 gearheads out there (me included), try to cut some slack for those who are being lumped into a bad boat because of others, and to all the import owners out there who know the real score, try to teach your loud , obnoxious bretheren, foregin and domestic, what being a car enthusiast is really about. *blinks in confusion* where did that come from? Tho I still think starting with an extra 4 cylinders is a good idea from the performance standpoint :D |
i agree i was behind a STOCK honda today pulled up next to him & gave him a thumb's up, because it wasnt riced out & i saw his v - tech emblem's- factory , he waved at me, no prob. i respected his car. ;) :D :D :D
