I wrote some BBS software called Genesis. It had a Citadel-like messaging system. Citadel was cool since users could create their own message areas and maintain them. If they didn't get much volume, we would just delete them.

I hit my first BBS back in 85. I was 19, jobless, and moved to a new state so I didn't know anyone. I went online with a screaming 1200 baud modem that had tons of transmission errors. It was a great way of meeting new people.

Writing the BBS got me gainfully employed as a consultant when I was 20. I was making $1200 a week and living at home. It paid for my Mustang.
