arrrrg! ...they sent me the wrong part!
im installing XM radio this weekend but crutchfield sent me the u-ring tools to remove my mach460....my headunit isnt the same as the old mach460 model...my releases are on the bottom, not the sides....looks like im going to ford tomorrow morning and driving with a half popped headunit til i set up the XM...wee...
anyone have any experience with removing the new ones? have any advice with talking to ford about pulling that out?....just hoping for a little feedback about it... thanks jonathon |
I may be wrong but...
I thought that any automotive parts store sold those "radio remover keys"? I thought they were just some "allenwrench" looking things (that could easily be replaced with a metal clothes hanger) that you stuck in each hole to release the holding clips...? If I'm wrong, then nevermind... :D |
small philips screwdrivers worked for me

its not the two holes on each side of the headunit...there are 6 holes on the bottom lip....theyre a different design hole too...i guess ill just bug ford in the AM...lol

for anyone wondering...
it turns out the new systems dont come out like normal....all you need to do it pry out the console around the gearshifter, then the console around the A/C,headunit, etc controls...its held in by metal clips...they just pop out...then there are two bolts that hold in the headunit....simple as that.... the install went smoothly and the XM radio is awesome :)...i didnt even mount the antenna..its in my trunk..hehe |
