The best mod for them as far as performance goes is a high stall torque converter. Also a performance shift kit will make a noticable performace differance, but is a better mod for power handling and durability.

Changing the rear end ratio to 3.73's or lower is a must for optimal performance as well.

Always keep in mind, use the highest quality parts when upgrading the AOD. There are a lot of manufacturers out there, but only the best (usually $$) will net the performance worth spending the money on.

I agree with Unit 5302, but if you really don't want to spend a ton of money on your AOD, go with a C-4. It takes alot less money to make a performance trans. out of them, but keep in mind you will lose your overdrive. As for a stall converter though, big isn't always better. When chosing a converter, keep in mind your cam size, rear gears (I have 3.73's), vehicle weight, HP output. But anyways, don't get too crazy with your converter. I'm using a 2500 stall in my 88 drag car. 60 ft.'s are 1.70's My car has a warmed-over'69 351W, an '80 C-4, and 3.73 rear gears with a spool.

on top of what has been mentioned before... think about installing a lower gear kit into your auto trans... it'll act like a lower rear gear ratio until you go into 3rd or OD, then the trans will have the normal 1:1 drive in third... i've been running that and damn its sweet!!

You can swap it for a 5-Speed, or go with a converter.

Buddy had one on his Roadrunner (big, big stall) apparently he gained 0.5 in the 1320.
