Background check- age? occupation?
I was just curiously thinking to myself. Some of have over 2000 posts(Sky, Unit 5302) and were all dumping tons of money into automobiles like it grew on trees. How old are you guys and what are your occupations? I am a poor college student working at Toys "R" Us. I am 23 years old and am trying to get a bachelors degree in Health Administration and eventually apply to Med school. I love Fords and would love a nine second mustang, but that will have to wait till later in life. How about you guys??? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

Well I am 23 years old (24 B-day 6/30 http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif) I do estimating and CAD drawings for a Rotary Diecutter/Fabricator and 3M Preferred Converter. I just bought my first house last August, with my fiance, and plan on getting married next year.
Here's the trick I learned to save money for the parts, while I was going to college and living at home I was still working here on Second SHift, college during the day. Now that was tiring and hard at times but I was able to work 40-60hours and still pull a 3.25 GPA, and I was able to put lots of cash away. Now I was use to going out and buying what ever I wanted then I moved out, and reality settled in, rent etc.. so I had to put money away every week and not touch it. I do the same thing with now that I have a mortgage, put money away every week and that way even though it may take a while I will be able to do the mods I want. Don't worry man finish school that is the most important and find a good job, you will be able to do the mods you want. Make plan and stick to it, you don't have to try to do the motor, suspension all at once. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif ------------------ Check Out My Site 91GT,Holley SysteMAX II Kit-Heads 2.02" x 1.60" port matched to a 1262,Anderson N-61,24#,76mm C&L,Full MAC exhaust 1-5/8" Long tubes,2-1/2" O.R H-Pipe,2 1/2" cat back, No A/C or PS or emissions, 12" K&N Filter,RNH PERFORMANCE Ram Air,Ron Davis Radiator,Full Suspension,S&W 8pt "X" brace,JAZ seats,3:73's,Welds..etc,4:30's and 31 splines coming very soon! I'm 39, Manager of Operations at a company in the entertainment field. I've always wanted a Mustang GT ever since I sold my 69 Camaro SS350 22 years ago. Well, my kid is grown up, finances are in order, so 4 years ago I finally bought a used '86 GT convertible. It started out innocently enough, Flowmasters for the rumble, then got beat by a couple ricers so the headers and 2-1/2" H-pipe went in. Then the oil pressure dropped - mains were shot, so I picked up a new long block with a Cobra intake. Mass air conversion was next. Still not fast enough, so a cam and roller rockers went in. Now all that just got moved into a 93 GT. And on and on, $100 here, $200 there... I do all my own work except for welding (for now) so that saves me some.

23 years old (12-02-77). Have a BS in Chemistry (graduated 5-12-01 w/ a 3.1 GPA--I screwed around until the last year http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif ). Much of my time during college was spent on my car and 90% of my earned money was spent on my car. Get this, 2 months ago, I broke down and bought a pair of khakis, some t shirts and the FFW shirt. B4 this, I haven't bought clothes in at LEAST 10 years--this excludes underwear and socks http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif (no exaggeration).
Still now, at least 70% of my money go to my car. It took me 4 years to get as far as I am with my '79 351W powered stang (it's my third V6 b4 I found the right body). And now when I'm walking toward my car in a parking lot or something, I think how long I struggled trying to get to where my car is now and it's hard to believe (I am almost obsessed w/ Mustangs), but I am only half way done with my car--looking for high 11s in the 1/4 by the end of the year. Do most the work myself and the stuff I can't do, a friend of mine helps me with. ~10% of my money goes towards my guitar and equipment. I actually like guitar more, but I put more money into my car as of now. Been playing for about 10 years. I'm 30 and I work as a Video Producer for Cox Communications. I graduated with a BA in broadcasting from KSU and was lucky to get a job in my field. I get to shoot and edit :30 commercials and long-form videos and I have a blast. My wife and I both own a 66 and a 96 Stang so it's hard to figure out where to spend the money...restoring the old one or making the new one faster http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif We'll get there eventually on both cars but right now we're saving for a house. Well, my car is nowhere close to where I want it, but I just started last year. I used to be a pretty avid import guy. I actually came about a pretty strange way. The school I went to growing up was too small and I had problems with all the teachers. Graduating class one year ahead of me was 12. So I dropped out, took the GED test, took the SAT(1480), and then enrolled at U of Oregon. I got my Associates in Music Theory and Composition before running out of money. So I joined the army and served 3 awesome years and now I'm getting out of the army at the end of this year. I am married now, but plan on going back to school to finish my B. of Arts in Music and then get a computer degree of some kind. I can also sympathize with Mercury and am very into Theoretical Physics. But my car itself is not anywhere close to where I want it. It will probably take me quite awhile as I am now married and expecting twins at the end of the year.
I turned 22 on march 2nd of this year. [This message has been edited by Power (edited 06-22-2001).] |
I'm 24 and got my BS in Geophysics from Texas A&M last december. It was too late to change majors, so I finished that one and now I'm gettng my MS in mechanical engineering at A&M. I'm currently working for Ford in the Cleveland Engine plant #2 for the summer. The duratecs and the jag/lincoln engines are assembled there. I'm working on the jag line, trying to help increase production and reduce engine rejects. Everyday I drive by the now closed Engine Plant #1 where our beloved 5.0 was assembled. The job is pretty cool but ohio sucks...I would never live here. I'm now using my paychecks to pay off my skyhigh discover card bill...which went to the cobra of course :-).

I'm broke right now, as starting up business's don't make much money. I bought most everything for the stang on credit, as I I saved money. If anyone else is interested in making money off utilities I could show it to you. I was introduced by a guy I knew from highschool who started 6.5months ago, and pulled $16,000 last month! I turned 25 on march 2nd. I am the yard superintendent of the western falcon Odessa plant.
We put polyethelene liners in oil field tubing and are growing rapidly when I started here 4 years ago we had just the Odessa plant but now we have plants in Canada, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Argentina. Its funny how if you show up every day and show up on time and pass the random drug test how quickly you can move up in a company. I got into mutangs late last year my stang is just a hobby car it never sees street duty yet. I also have a 00' GMC truck wich I absolutely love and a Honda CRX that I bought for my girlfriend. I make alot of money but it seems like I am always broke cause of all of my bills. I could easily of had an 11 sec stang if I would of been into stangs instead of car audio last year. I had a 4300.00 stereo system in my 98 GMC truck I got rid of last year. Right now all of my money is going into the stang it was a pos when I bought it paid 1500.00 for it last November and since have put about another 2000.00 into it. I can sympathize with 5.0 HO, I spent about 12,000 on the stereo in my last car and if I only had spent all that money on my mustang she would be real fast. Being a window tinter here pays really good but it is seasonal. The going rate for a window tinter is 33% of the total, so if the tint job is $150 I make $50 per car and I can tint about 8 cars a day but average about 5 to 6. This is a good topic, very interesting.
Here's me: 20 years old, work as an "apprentice technician" (in other words i do the work no one else wants to do, and i clean up other people's messes) at a local Ford dealership. I go to school at Renton Technical College, just recently enrolled in the Ford ASSET program from another auto program where Firestone had enrolled me before i realized how crappy that place was. This is my 2nd fox stang, 3rd fox body (had a zephyr) and my first 5.0L. i make $10 an hour (starting wage) and will continue to live at home until i'm out of school or decide i've had enough, but right now most of my money goes towards getting my mustang running right, many odd problems, and getting the chassis set up for later go fast stuff. ------------------ '84 Mustang 5.0 LX My car |
I am 25, and I am a SGT. (E5) in the United States Marine Corps about to pick up E6. I currently work for a branch that tests amphibious assult vehicles. (In Del Mar on Camp Pendleton, I see at least 10-15 stangs a day during a 7 minute drive to work. There has got to be someone on here who see's the same cars.) Including the advanced amphibious assult vehicle if anyone knows what that is. I have a little over a year left then I think I'm going to call it quits. I will be moving to the Dallas/FTW area and try to get on working with one of the juvenile boot camps in the area. My wife makes enough money so I don't see the real need to find a that I would'nt be happy with just for the pay check. Besides helping out young kids going down the wrong road is really what I want to do.
I bought my stang about a year this sept. I have always wanted one (fox body) since I saw this dude's 89 GT back in HS. It was a bad MF. [This message has been edited by JM90GT (edited 06-25-2001).] |
44 years young and enjoy driving our 90 LX everyday. I'm responsible for balancing the accounting books for commissaries on Air Force bases and Army posts in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. After staring at a computer screen and numbers all day I need to get in the stang and clear my brain. Good tunes and a great car takes all my cares away.

oooooo boy do I feel unsuccessful after reading the replies to this post hehe.
Well, I'm a 20 year old college student at Virgina Tech, soon to be moving to New Jersey right outside of NYC. I'm planning to pursue my degree in Communications and a minor in web design at either NYU or possibly Seton Hall University. I've had 3 stangs thus far, my 98 cobra fake, my 86 notch, and my current 94 GT. I just finished putting my 306 short block on the credit card hehe, and now its time to finish the top end, then ol' Peppy (Shiloh) is going into the budget paint booth. I also love sportbikes, and am purchasing a 94 Honda CBR600 customized to my specs in August. o yeah, and I love bunnies!!! WOW!!!
A lot has changed since i last replied to a post of this nature. I am 19(soon to be 20). I have just finished my Pastry Chef apprenticship at a Wonderful German restaurant and bakery here in Atl. I run my own small catering buisness wich is enough to fund my speed addiction. I have been accepted to Johnson and Wales University in Providence RI, which is pretty much the best culinary school in the nation. I will be moving in August to attend for 4 years and earn my BA in Culinary arts. After school i will either join PANOZ Motrosports as one of their LaMans circuit chefs, or train in France for 4 years. All in all i plan on opening my restaurant in New England by the time i am 28. FINGERS CROSSED! Already planned out my next Mustang http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif Jonathan Light Em Up!! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif ------------------ My 87 GT....Marbles http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/contrib/icw/019.gif AIM: Marbles87Fox Light Em Up!!! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif [This message has been edited by NoSlow5.0 (edited 06-26-2001).] |

I'm 22 and work as an Analyst at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting). I was hired w/ only a high school diploma and haven't really looked into college yet. I'm finding an interest in graphic design...but I dunno. I know I should go back to school soon, but I'm enjoying my time right now.

Will be 38 in 2 weeks, man sometimes I feel to old for my car.
I work as a LAN/Computer support specialist and I will be laid off next week. (time to fish, fly kites, workout, sleep in, play with my car and drink beer all day) man this is the life I always wanted to have, I hope I don't get a job to soon. |
I am 25 and currently work for the 6th
largest bank in the nation as a customer service rep. I hate my job. I am going to school part-time at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for Information Systems in Networking. I have about 6-8 classes left, so in about 2 years I should be done. |
