Looking to buy
Hey all. I am possibly looking to by a mustang and here is what i found. Something seems kinda fishy to me. What do you all think:
1989 Lx Blue 2DR Coupe, 53000 Miles, Manual Transmission, 2WD, 8 Cylinders, Good Condition. 415HP w/ 395ft. lbs of tourque. This mustang is completely custom. It has 383 cubic inches w/ stroker kit. Brand new 2 month old custom paint job. True duel exhaust with hi flow cats. Fireball Ignition system, Ibach springs, BBK shocks and struts, underdrive pullies. 1995 transmition w/ only 32,000 miles on it. Asking price is 5300. Should i be looking out for something here? Thank you Bill Harris |

Not sure why exactly they would use a '95 trans on a car with those numbers. Sounds like a stroked 351w, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Doesn't pass the sniff test though. Got any mustang buddies around there that can go look with you?

95 tranny won't fit in a Fox body....the shifter location is different.
Sounds fishy to me, very fishy......too good to be true. Couldn't hurt to check it out though. Just make sure to go over it with a fine toothed comb.

My cousins husband is a huge mustang nut. Im sure he would be more then happy to go and look with me. Expecially now that im looking at mustangs and not a dsm. The situation did seem really weird to me, which is why i traveled to the good ole board to ask around. I appreciate your posts, if anyone knows anymore please reply.

Given the specs you rattled off, I would say $5,300 is quite low. There maybe problems with the car and could be why the guy is trying to unload it. Building up a quality 383 alone would cost at least $3,500-$4,000.
Also, I don't know who in their right mind would put a 'stock' 95 tranny behind a 383 cu. in. beast??? He should have put a built C4 or Tremec behind it. Go check it out with your cousin's husband and let us know what you find out. E
